  1. I thought so, too, but there was somethig in the details for Ryman that said "Gold Circle tickets are will call only, all others will be mailed by (insert date)"

It's actually said "(insert date)", which seemed fishy and amateurish.

I was confused by this too ... and when I bought my presale tickets for the Ryman (not Gold Circle - in the balcony) the only option available was Will Call. There was no other click box to check. I thought this meant **ALL** Ryman presale were Will Call. Was this not correct?

"Will Call Only" for presale is fine, and Wilco and Frontgate should at least emulate the Avett Brothers presale which is ALL TICKETS for ALL SHOWS sold presale are Will Call only. That would stop about 99% of the scalping of presale tickets.

  2. Thank you. That's very helpful. The only info I did not see on that thread was if there was an advantage as far as seat location when using Frontgate. If anyone here has used Frontgate recently I would really appreciate hearing about the quality of the seat location vs. Ticketmaster. I can't seem to find any info on that anywhere. From what I read on the other thread the financial aspect is about equal so I'm looking for a reason to give Frontgate a try. Thanks.

Generally how fan club pre-sales work is 10% of the total tickets available to the public are sold through the pre-sale and represent a mix of tickets across what is available - at the front, in the balcony, wherever.

Your chances of getting good seats are neither better nor worse versus TicketMaster.

  3. I'm pissed off. First Wilco buys out the entire Holiday Inn in advance of the show's announcement. That is really lame, IMHO. Now I've got to rent a car drive extra miles to a motel, or go hippie camping with porto potties and no showers.

And this pre sale ticket offer was a joke. They never sent me an email with the code. I have to pay 120 now for tickets? I'm a super fan, why am I being dissed?

After only one show, SOLID SOUND looks sure to have jumped the shark.

Walking distance for hotels is a must for large concert events - this isn't something Wilco's mgmt have figured out yet.

    Essential.

  4. I'm just responding to what I read and how it sounded to me.

Switching some things around to see Wilco in Europe may be tough, but it can be done for a bit extra.

I guess what really threw me for a loop was saying "whomever announces the dates earliest wins" with the combination of releasing tour dates in a "timely manner". The point that I'm trying to make is that if you truly want to see Wilco in Europe, then wait until such an announcement is made.

I never referred to that person as a jerk. I only questioned their travel plans and methods.

Well ... I'll admit it, I'm not made of $$. When I plan my annual 3 week European trip, I book the tickets early for one of two reasons. 1) Fare sales for summer travel are usually between mid-January and March 1. 2) cashing in frequent flyer miles for European tickets (my other modus operandi) is more difficult the closer you get to the dates you want - and 6 months out is considered "close". Since dropping $2500 for a pair of plane tickets (non-sale summer pricing) every year is difficult, I try to hit the fare sales for both or buy one ticket and cash in miles for the other or cash in miles for both if I've reached that point. I've now been 7 times and intend to go every year until ... until.

The trip is usually scheduled around a specific event that is a catalyst. A concert, a sporting event ... for the Pearl Jam show in Venice we arrived 2 1/2 weeks early, ran all around Italy and a couple other countries in a rental car, saw the concert and flew back to the USA a couple days afterward. Fun!

If the dates are out early enough, they would be the catalyst for the trip. If I knew RIGHT NOW that Wilco was playing on X date in Y city over there anytime between June 1 and September 1, 2011 that it would be the catalyst for the next trip. As the dates are not out early enough to hit the time window when European tickets have to be bought or acquired via FF miles, it has not worked out in my favor so far.

  5. But what do you gain by having that stuff to discuss so early? Seems kinda pointless.

I will be in Europe for 3 weeks in 2011 between May and September. Fare sales for Europe summer travel usually occur in February or so - and that's when it's time to decide when and where for the yearly run over there. In 2010, we missed Wilco Europe tours because the dates were not announced in a timely manner. We did enjoy seeing Pearl Jam in Italy on July 6 instead!

People do schedule their lives around going to see concerts - and whomever announces the dates earliest wins.

  6. Check out wilcoworld.net, the official site. Also, when new dates are announced, they will be discussed here pretty quickly.

Right now, there are only a few JT shows scheduled for December and January.

Yes, yes, yes - the point I was making is that usually there is a lot of discussion and actual posted tour dates for other bands in advance of the band actually announcing anything themselves. No offense to Wilco, but the updates on wilcoworld.net are very few and far between ... I'm on their Facebook page and email distribution as well ...

  7. Even some general info like "SE USA in April, Europe in July" would help.

It's funny, I'm on a discussion board for another band with a rabid fan base like Wilco and you always get the scoop on tour dates there well in advance, and there is very little of that here. Too bad, really!

  8. Surely that's part of it, but the person in front of me, who I tried to get to shut up in Atlanta got all huffy on me and said Wilco is his favorite band and that I was ruining HIS concert, and that unless I am Jeff Tweedy, I have no right to ask him to do anything at a Wilco concert. :blink

Of course, several songs later when Jeff Tweedy asked the audience to cut the chatter, at least during the quieter songs, did this guy shut up, even for a moment?

    Take a wild guess.

My girlfriend was at the Atlanta show (alas, I could not go, boo hoo ...) and the first comment she made about it was about the audience chattering nonstop through the whole show and not watching the band. It's inconsiderate to both the band and the audience. She took a day's vacation from work, paid $50 for a ticket, split a hotel room cost with her sister, drove 500 miles roundtrip and her first impression of the night was that people wouldn't be quiet when the band is playing. Sad.

  9. I guess she does not have very many fans here.

    Gretchen Wilson

Never heard of her. But after reading the intro to her Wikipedia entry:

Gretchen Frances Wilson (born June 26, 1973 in Pocahontas, Illinois) is an American country music artist. She made her debut in 2004 with the Grammy Award-winning single "Redneck Woman," a number-one hit on the Billboard country charts.

I'm sure I won't be buying her album, either.

  10. I'm not going, but some info for anyone on here that might be -- I was in Copenhagen 2 weeks ago and by utter random chance was staying right next to the Royal Theater where the Nov 8 show is.

    The place is GORGEOUS --

I stayed at Hotel Opera, which is along the side street on the east side of the theater. Saying it's a 1/2 block away might be right -- maybe 200 yards? $180/night, kind of Holiday Inn level accomodations. Bookable by Expedia or Travelocity. Many places to eat in the near vicinity, bars, etc. Everything to do in downtown is close to there. Couple of stores for buying 6 packs or supplies too -- warning Copenhagen is CRAZY expensive.

The Kongens Nytorv metro station is directly across the street from the theater.

Anything else about the city from my trip, be glad to pass along.

  11. Usually means you get into the show, but no other "privileges" unless specifically arranged/stated by whomever got you onto the guest list.

Doesn't even necessarily mean a ticket -- I was guestlisted into a Zac Brown Band show at the Tennessee Theater recently and got a wristband, which meant stand in the back behind the handicapped area as all seats are sold. Usually means a ticket, though. (I'm friends with someone who is involved with the mgmt company that reps Zac Brown)

Still ... free is free ...

  12. I was wondering the same thing. I met Mike Lookinland at a Grateful Dead show at Compton Terrace in Arizona, summer 1987. Is he a Wilco fan? Somehow it wouldn't surprise me.
