  1.

Aside from the fact someone in front of me kept farting, which smelled like Easter ham, all in all an outstanding show.

We totally must have been standing close to each other... cause there we a couple of time I was like...."WHOA!!!"

I think that they got really bad during "Red Eyed"

    haha

  2. Great show... awesome!!

It is just amazing that they played for just over 3 hrs.... over 30 songs.... I can't believe that they have been doing shows like this all tour... It was more than worth the price of ticket... I would have paid a lot more for that ticket... I mean all Wilco was awesome!!

I can't wait until the show is posted online!!! I want to hear it again!!!

  3. Ok... So I wanted to start a post where we talk about references made to specific locations in Wilco songs.... and if you have ever been to that place...

I.E. Via Chicago... Chicago... I went there once when I was in High school..

    get the idea!

  4. My two cents:

Wide Awake is a fantastic record. One of the best LPs since Y2K.

Cassadega is good. Not great, but good. A few good tunes.

Everything else falls short of the Mendoza Line for me.

Yea... you are totally right... I love Wide Awake... and still listen to it... But have now seen him live twice... once as "Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes" and Once (this past saturday in Lowell) as "Conor Oberst and the Mystic Vally Band".... both time I was not impressed... So I think that he is just not that good live... even though I love this performance that he did with M. Ward of O'Brien on ACL..

  5. Its a silly comparison.

I agree... two totally different bands that where/are doing two totally different genre's of Rock 'n' Roll (if you will). I think that REM also continually sought out commercial success (top 40 airplay)... more than Wilco ever has (not to say that they won't in the future). I think that you saw REM make a concerted effort in the late 80's to try and make a top 40 hit song.... Both with most of the music on the "green album" and then obviously succeeding with Losing my Religion. So I think it is a hard comparison at this point, because Wilco has yet to give up their scruples for a hit record... I think that REM did... I think that REM finally said "ok, we need to make some money at this..." and they released "Out of Time" (you think that album title was a coincidence?? Ha

    my 2 pennies!

  6. I guess the next time I am at a Wilco show, I probably will not remember this online encounter. BUT if I run into a fan, sparking his bowl, losing himself in the music, who happens to be acting like a complete jerk, that may "spark" my memory and I will gladdy avoid brining up Conor Oberst. You know some words of wisdom, viachicago is a great board for a great band, and if your intentions are chatting, collecting, and trading music, you may want to learn some fundamentals of having a civil conversation. All I did was call you out on being a bit too close to the gay bashing line, and for not being able to form a reasonable argument against Conor's lyric writing ability. If you thought Conors outfit was silly, then fine (I thought he looked foolish) if you don't like him as a musician fine (some people have listed their personal reasons why they do not prefer his music) but what you shouldn't do is act they way you have been. If the worst thing you have on me is that you think I am pretentious, I'll take that, no biggie (but why, because I didnt curse you out? We are all WILCO fans on a MESSAGE BOARD lol we are all a bit pretentious), at least I don't get my kicks in life by acting like a complete dope to get rises out of people. I hope you don't spend your days 24/7 constantly finding faults in everything around you, pointlessly rediculing everyone that dares call you out on the fact that you are a jerk. I'm basing this off of the few posts that you have sent in my direction, but hey, I'm a glass half full guy, I'm assuming your apology for calling me a prick, shithead, etc is on its way soon! Maybe then we can have a real discussion on why you hate Conor Oberst, and everything else that I'm sure you hate, the list is sadly probably pretty long :ohwell

Wow...as a newbie here.. I can feel the love!!... I mean it is just pouring out of these posts... Man... at the next Boston area concert we should have a meet up and a big group hug... or maybe a therapy session...

    HOW ABOUT THAT WILCO? ;~)

  7. So why was the show called off? Was the band getting wet too? I figured they would be under cover.

If it was called off just becasue the crowd was getting wet, that's a crime! I remember being at a Dead show in 1990 where it started raining very hard during the first set, but no biggie because the band was playing and we were all rocking out. It was a whole different story when the set ended and they took a break and we had to stand there for 40 minutes in the pouring rain. That wasn't so great, but once you were completely soaked to the bone and embraced the rain, it wasn't so bad. One of the greatest shows I ever seen too!

The Stage was getting Soaked.... The canopy was over the stage.. but that was more protection for the lighting gear than anything else... So all of the amps... and gear on stage was getting pretty wet!

ON a new.... Non-Conor Oberst part of this tread...

did anyone get a good recording of what Wilco did play... I know I saw some people with booms and mics... anything good??? any torrents up yet??

  8.

I hadn't seen anybody mention this yet, but the reason that the traffic was so slow on the way out, aside from the parking and street layout, was a sobriety checkpoint catching everyone before they got on the 495. When I finally got to the checkpoint, the cop sticks his head INSIDE my car to take a whiff and asks me if I have been drinking. A simple "no" and he sends me on my way. I couldn't believe they did that, it took me 2 hours roughly to get out of Lowell. I don't want drunks on the road either, but damn, do you really want traffic backed up for hours at midnight?

Anyways, it was a fun night all in all. Gotta love any chance to see Wilco.

We were lucky... We got to Lowell at like 2 in the afternoon and parked in the bottom of the garage... and got out really fast... The State Police were just pulling into and setting up the Sobriety check points as we were pulling onto 495... we got out of Lowell in 15 minutes.. from getting in the car from the garage... I think that we were one of the lucky ones!!

  9. I was lucky enough to snag a list after the show, with the help of a kindly security dude. After Hummingbird, it would have gone like this:

    Encore 1

    The Late Greats

    Magazine

    You Never Know

    HMD

    Encore 2

    Hate It Here

    Walken

I Am the Man Who Loves You

    Hoodoo Vodoo

Ahh man... I was really looking forward to hearing both Late Greats and Hate it Here... my 2 favorite Wilco tunes!! Ohh well I hope that they come back soon!!

  10. yea... I am totally bummed that it rained... How many songs were cut??? It was my first Wilco show... and I was so sad :(

But I still hope to see the recording of the show posted in the tape section soon!!

On another note... I am the only person who thought that Conor Oberst's set was a little painful?
