  1. While not exclusively, I'm hearing a lot of classic rock tunes. How about a return to their roots and play White Freight Liner Blues, London Homesick Blues, or Up Against the Wall Redneck Mothers?

I'd also love to hear them cover anything by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, the Old 97s or Cracker.

  2. Dr Dog is not well suited to play a place that big. They put on one hell of an energetic show. I've been lucky enough to see them with 100 people in a tiny bar, and a handful of times at the Electric Factory. I wish they could have played longer.

I didn't see any of the Avett set. Not that I dislike them, but I was there for Wilco and Dr Dog.

A couple who left after Avetts gave me and my pal their pit tickets, so I was in the 5th row for Wilco. I just saw them last weekend at Forecastle, and they did the same thing there with rushing through the setlist and playing as much music as possible. Sure, I wish they were allotted more time, but I appreciate the effort the band put in to give us all they could, especially since they really were breaking down the set after "Shot in the Arm" but came out to play "Late Greats". very pleased with last nights show.

Fully agree with opinion re: DD. I've seen them live three times in small venues and they really, really impressed.

From my vantage point in Section 104, there seemed to be more Avetts fans than Wilco fans. The sound quality in Section 104 during DD and Wilco was very poor - we couldn't hear Nels very much :( But for some reason, the Avetts sounded very good in comparison.

I went in with the expectation that it would be a festival show and that we would not get the full Wilco experience. I was not disappointed (except for the poor sound way off to the side - next time only the middle seats or pit!).

One thing I forgot to mention: the crowd was great! For the first time in eight Wilco shows that I've seen, there were no chatty cathy's and there was a very pleasant vibe everywhere I went. I think Philly has a lot of love for Wilco if they decide to come back for a longer show at a smaller venue.

  3. I have eight tickets and only my wife and four kids are going. You can choose from either of two different pairs of hard tickets.

The first pair is Section 104, row J, seats 21-22 for total cost of $110. In an effort to unload these, I'll eat the already-paid service charge and delivery fee.

The second pair is really close to the pit/stage in Section 101, row G, seats 1-2 for a total of $136. I'm not willing to eat the service charge and delivery fee since they're such great seats. (To be quite honest, I'm hoping you'll take the Section 104 seats and I'll sit with my son in Section 101...) But it's your choice!

By the way, I'll need cash and can meet you either in Northern Delaware or Cecil County in the next week or meet you before Dr. Dog goes on. I don't know if you've seen Dr. Dog, but they're pretty frickin' awesome in of themselves.

  4. This was my seventh show - first one at Merriweather Post Pavilion. I actually thought the crowd (from my perspective at row N of center-left) was a bunch of duds. I mean, what's with these people? The greatest live band (currently) and they can't get excited!

I'd say that all but one of the tunes from The Whole Love sounded pretty much like the studio version, which is fine and to be expected, except for Born Alone. Born Alone had something extra special :)

Other than the crowd, the whole show seemed a bit short. Weird...

I guess that next time, if my only chance to see them is to sit in the pavilion at MPP, I'll seriously consider driving several hours for a different venue, like the Baltimore Lyric, the Wilmington Grand, or the Philly Electric Factory.

  5. There are comparisons and influences apparent throughout, but what I'm most struck by is how indisputably, absolutely themselves they are. Only Wilco could have made this music. God, I love this band.

This sums up the explanation that I've been struggling to come up with. The same thing could not have been said to the same degree with respect to SBS and W(TA).

  6. There is supposed to be a link for the sale of those extra 100 tickets for the DC show, but it's not there. Has anyone figured out where those tickets will be on-sale Monday? Thanks

If you find out, can you please send me the info? I tried several times to get tix to that show only to be denied several times. BTW, I am NOT a scalper...

  7. Best show ever, including Wilmington with the Total Pros. Absolutely loved their song choices in Philly.

I have to say that the EF looks like a dump, but the sound 7-10 rows back from center was perfectly fine to me.

Anyone know what the deal was with the "rave"? It seemed like it caught them by surprise.
