  1.

I LOVED Jeff's comment directly to the front/center guy: "Do you use your cellphone while you're at the movie theater? No? Well that's interesting.  You pay MORE respect to a movie screen, than to live artists on a stage. Alright."   Why didn't the fu*%er leave the venue at that point????

Yep, that's when it clearly turned from lightly scolding an annoyance to being angry.  Jeff's remarks to the jerks prior to that elicited chuckles from the audience, after this comment there was silence.

I compared it to parenting my young kids.  The first couple times they act inappropriately it's playful admonishment, after the third it's time to make it clear they are being assholes.   I wish security would've gotten the hint and showed some presence.

BUT all that going on had zero effect on the enjoyment of such a fantastic show.  The first time I saw wilco in PDX was at Pioneer Square in 2000 and I've been to more than I can remember in between, and I think this was the best of all of them.  Stunningly beautiful.

  2. I was also at that show. The headstock of the SG broke off after it was tossed but Stan (Wilco's sound guy) says their guitar techs repaired the guitar. I'm also curious which guitar was tossed seeing how it seemed like acoustic guitars were used %80 of the time at both Seattle shows.

Yeah you could see that SG snap, I'm not sure if the one last night was damaged as it landed behind the amps/gear.

I was actually standing at the back of the venue (next to Stan)  rather than up close in my seats when the guitar was tossed.  I'm bad at recognizing guitars, but my wife said it was the darker colored acoustic.  Not one of the two with the red design on them that seemed to be most frequently played.

  3. Great review. Cars Can't Escape! Not For The Season! I Loved the quieter versions of the songs on the final encore.

Also the intense look on Pats' face whilst rocking the triangle early in the set cracked us up!

I really felt bad for Jeff, he was seriously upset about the phone situation and I think some of those folks thought he was just playing around with them. It was clear about halfway through the show that it was no joke and yet still zero effs given by the perpetrators. Very sad.

Second time now I've seen Tweedy toss a guitar in frustration onstage. The last time was in Flagstaff, AZ due to tech issues. I hope this axe fairs better than that one.

  4. I am sad that he is skipping Portland OR. Wah.

No Kidding!  He always stops here or in Eugene or both!  Maybe those excessive chit-chatters at the Crystal Ballroom back in '06 have turned JT sour on the Rose City for good!

  5. ***Still not able to sell these tickets, at this point I'll give 'em up to the best offer I get in the next couple of days.  If you're still looking for tickets here's a chance to get 2 of 'em way below face value! *********

    Thanks!

It was going to be a great summer vacation. Fly the wife and kiddos back east, see some family/friends and spend some time at my favorite bands' curated fest.

Than the sewer line backed up again.  Needs to be completely replaced.  Topography of home location, city of Portland non-conforming sewer rules and hiring of flagging crew = muchos $$$ involved.

So no trip, no visitations, no Solid Sound.

Got 2 Early bird tickets I won't be using, I live in Oregon so probably paypal,  though I'm open to suggestions.

$215 total (face value and fees) obo

    Thanks!

  6. Jeff also commented that this was the best smelling crowd he had ever been around. I believe he described it as a mixture of pine, mulch and barkdust. Although from where I was standing it smelled like a different "weed" altogether...

As a native southern Oregonian I was a bit surprised to see Wilco on the Britt schedule this year. Usually bands that play in Jacksonville aren't quite as relevant, rarely would you see a band that has just released a new album play the Britt fest. Although I see that Andrew Bird is going to be there in a few weeks as well so maybe they're working on adding some younger, modern bands to the lineup which is cool. It's a great venue, especially with the rare encouragement to bring in your own food/drink and picnic on the beautiful wooded grounds during the show.

The crowd seemed a bit subdued for the first few songs, but from what I could tell things started to pick up a bit during Impossible Germany. Mr. Cline's mastery got a mid song ovation and everybody seemed to be on their feet for the remainder of the show. Not too many of the setlist surprises that've been seen prior on the this tour, but still a wonderful band at the peak of their live prowess providing a great soundtrack to a beautiful Rogue Valley night.

My wife and I have been to 10-15 Wilco/Tweedy shows over the last 10 years and like clockwork, we always get a Remember The Mountain Bed, which happens to be my wife's favorite Wilco tune. :wub So thanks again for being consistent guys, we appreciate it! :D

  7. What a wonderful show, great sound, great weather, everything was perfect! I really enjoyed hearing Pot Kettle Black live for the first time. They did a masteful job arranging it. :worship

I did go see The Minus 5 afterwards. They played up the hill in a hall usually reserved for wedding receptions, the stage was really small but they sounded great. They went onstage at about 11ish, and I was able to get my wife to stay for about 45 mins before she dragged me out, muttering about having work early and still needing to drive clear over to Beaverton to get to her bed!

I'm not a mega Minus 5 fan (not familiar with anything before Let The War Against Music Begin), but they were their usual fun selves. Scott was great with the banter between songs (complementing himself on his exceptional songwriting, commenting on the state of his dented PBR can, etc) It was a kick to see a guy like Peter Buck, one of the key members of one of the most important bands of the last twenty years, playing to such a small crowd in such a weird venue.

Of the songs I knew they played:

    You Dont' Mean It

    Ghost Tarts Of Stockholm (awesome!)

    With A Gun

    Days Of Wine And Booze

    I'm Not Bitter

I Still Miss Someone (J. Cash cover)

    The Night Chicago Died Again

    and a bunch more.

I did not see any Wilco members on the stage at any point (there wasn't much room for anyone else from what I could see). Maybe it was past their bedtime :shifty
