  1. I had this CD from Subpop back in the early nineties. I don't even know if it was good or not; I think I was actually a little freaked out by it and now that has me curious. The only thing I remember is that it was recorded in some kind of antique echo chamber. The cover might have been greenish.

    Anyone? Thanks in advance if you know.

  2. There's one of those...what are they called? Smokers stations? There's one of those weird, plastic things in front of the entrance to the museum.

    I smoke out front. There's lots of places to sit. We'll all have wristbands so I don't think going in and out would be an issue.

    I'm not sure on the art but the Sol LeWitt exhibit apparently will be up until 2033.

  3. I would love to see James Kochalka there. It's not even that I'm as much a fan of his music (although the live shows must be fun) as his comics but he'd be a great personality to have on site and would probably add a little something for the families.

    Arlo's close by.

  4. Dark haired boy and blonde haired boy...has a plot point ever been so broadly pointed out

    Sorry, I might be dense. Are you saying it's obvious who the boy is or commenting on continuity?

    Not kidding though, the notion of a god-like kid is scary to me. His second scene may have been my most horrified, Lost moment.

  5. Thanks...I appreciate the feedback. The photographer in me is battling the mtn biker who is battling the fisherman all of whom are battling the wilco fan and appreciator of contemporary art.

    At least I have finally decided to make this trip w/out taking the wife & kids.

    Savoy sounds very appealing even though I would have to drive back and forth. I might prefer the scenery over the convenience.

    decisions decisions. either way i am glad i finally decided to pull the trigger and see the show.

    As I said, I don't fish often but I do like taking pictures.

    Don't forget downtown. N.A. is full of great, old architecture and interesting street scenes thicker in the valley and thinning out into neighborhoods as the hills get steep. If you frame your shot just right and make it B & W, you can take a picture that could be mistaken as coming from anywhere from the 1950s-70s.

    (I should write for the tourism commission...if there is one)

  6. No yocal here, but I am staying at Clarksburg so that I CAN mtn bike or long board to the festie. Savoy is up a large harpin hill that does not look fun to bike home after a long day. No idea about the other campgrounds in town, although others are making contact with the Windsor Town Campground alas. BTW, how many municipalities have campgrounds funded and staffed by the Town? Awesome! Not even in the sticks here in NH do we have these services. Not sure about the fising at Clarksburg, it could be good but its a rough pond with no defined edge, a canoe would help. I will bring my rods anyways, so maybe we will find each other on the water! Staying in one of the lakeside spots.

    I'm not much of a fisherman but Savoy and then Windsor are most popular with people I know who are. Savoy and Clarksburg are more rugged and woodsy than Windsor.

    Double A-Rons right, I can't imagine biking that road down and up Florida Mountain (Savoy). Especially on a big weekend when there's traffic coming in that's not used to managing the curves.

  7. Saw it. That was a good program. Anytime a Nels Cline solo (even only a few seconds worth) makes it onto prime time TV, it's a good day.

    I watched a lot of the retrospective but I missed out. I saw it when it originally aired and loved it. I wonder if it's on youtube or anywhere?

  8. The Mass MOCA site specifically says "no alcohol" where it lists the rules for no coolers, no picnics, etc. Do they sell beer & wine there? Is it possible that this is a "dry" event?

    They have always sold beer and wine at the concerts and outdoor movies I've attended; I don't think the Festival will be any different but I haven't heard anything specifically about it. They would be crazy not to.

    There's also a restaurant on campus, Gramercy Bistro (upscale). It's a new location, but they have always had a bar.

    I'd be psyched to see a Magic Hat tent.

  9. I'm a Kris Kristofferson fan, so I enjoyed seeing him in it. And Robert Sean Leonard did a good job but I thought it was pretentious and not a very good movie, in all honesty.

  10. You'll be better served by Bennington, VT first - then Pittsfield, MA

    Bennington will be about 1/2 hour away and Pittsfield maybe 40 minutes or so. As you go south of Pittsfield there are lots more options but still, for the reasons I stated before, you'd better book early.

    Agreed. You blink and you're in Vermont or maybe New York. Other than my Dad telling me it was famous, I don't know much but try this place: Four Chimneys. It's on the pricey side.

  11. I received and e-mail back from Windsor Lake Campground.

    We have staff at the campground who are there now even though their season doesn't begin to May 15th. There is a phone 413-662-3198 which you may leave a message at and they will return your call to book sites for the intended date. If you don't receive a response in a timely fashion, please feel free to contact me again.

    I have put in two messages, yesterday and today. Hopefully they call Monday so I can get this squared away soon.

    Here's the longer, somewhat flatter route:

    2.514 miles

    * Start at GEORGE FAIRS WAY, NORTH ADAMS

    * Turn Right on GEORGE FAIRS WAY - go 0.10.2 mikm

    * Bear Right on BRADLEY ST

    * Turn Left on KEMP AVE - go 0.71.1 mikm

    * Turn Right on E MAIN ST - go 0.20.4 mikm

    * Turn Left on MOHAWK TRL(RT-2) - go 0.50.8 mikm

    * Continue to follow RT-2 - go 0.71.1 mikm

    * Turn Right on HOLDEN ST(RT-8)

    * Turn Left on ST ANTHONY'S DR(RT-8) - go

    * Turn Right on MARSHALL ST - go

    * Turn Left on MASS MOCA WAY

    * Arrive at 1040 MASS MOCA WAY, NORTH ADAMS, on the Left

    Here's the path I would probably take:

    Distance: 1.692.7 miles

    * Start at GEORGE FAIRS WAY, NORTH ADAMS

    * Turn Right on GEORGE FAIRS WAY - go 0.10.2 mikm

    * Turn Left on BRADLEY ST - go 0.30.5 mikm

    * Turn Right on CHURCH ST(RT-8A) - go 0.81.4 mikm

    * Continue to follow RT-8A

    * Turn Left on VETERANS MEMORIAL DR(RT-2) - go 0.20.3 mikm

    * Turn Right on HOLDEN ST(RT-8)

    * Turn Left on ST ANTHONY'S DR(RT-8) - go

    * Turn Right on MARSHALL ST - go

    * Turn Left on MASS MOCA WAY

    * Arrive at 1040 MASS MOCA WAY, NORTH ADAMS, on the Left

    You might want to look at it on a map and decide. We walked a good distance in Portland, Maine last summer and it was part of the fun; it's all what you're looking for. In Portland we discovered the pier by the sound of Wilco warming up.

    I live a nearly equal distance and we don't plan on driving.

  12. i have a crosley. you can get em at any department store for about 100-150. it plays cds, radio and cassettes too, you should check it out.

    http://www.amazon.com/Crosley-Rochester-Entertainment-Center-Paprika/dp/B000HQ6I0S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1245135302&sr=8-2

    My Crosley sounds as good or better than any other player I've had. I believe they make one now that will convert records tracks to MP3s and burn onto CD. That's amazing, I have a few records I love, that the rise of the digital did not.

  13. I booked the Redwood Motel in North Adams. I only noticed afterwards that the reviews were really really bad. I am not the pickiest person but I also do not want bed bugs or any other potential diseases. Can anyone tell me if it is as bad as they say it is. Thanks for your help.

    I don't think you'll get bedbugs. I stayed there once years ago under different ownership when I was living with my parents and really needed a "getaway".

  14. I'm going. I live 2 hrs away and it is just so beautiful in this area of the country in August. I simply can't imagine NOT going. Thing is: I have no one to go with. So, a 3 day weekend, alone? You bet. I suppose if I'm around a bunch of Wilconians like myself, I figure I'm not really the Lonely 1, right?

    You wont regret it. The locals are friendly. :thumbup

  15. Windsor Lake Campground. Try this number: 413 662 3198.

    I got an answering machine but the message says they are taking reservations and will call you back.

    As I said, it is quite a hike and North Adams has steep hills but it's possible if your determined, healthy and don't want to be bothered with a car. I'll list a longer but easier path to MOCA soon.

    Best to everyone when tickets go on sale.
