  1. Yep that's it. IF you ever have any opportunity to try one out, I highly recommend it. I can't stop playing it. I think this is my favorite amp I have ever owned. I have had Mesa, Peavey tube amps, fenders and a bunch more and I like this one the best.

The low wattage is key. It still fucking screams, believe me.

  2. Sagely words Ghost..Lately I have just been playing it straight with no other effects at all just to see what she can do. It really is an incredibly versatile amp and I am really enjoying the way it naturally breaks up without my OCD pedal. I will do some more experimenting and see any of my asshole friends have a reverb pedal. Usually they are coming to me to borrow my stuff, and rarely do they have anything that I want or need!

  3. Hey Guys,

I recently bought a Vox Night Train 15 W all tube amp head and it simply smokes! I love everything about it and I cannot believe how loud 15 watts can get. The only complaint that I have is that it does not have any onboard reverb, nor does it have an effects loop.

Everything I have ever read says that reverb pedals sound like shit without an FX loop.

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated..thanks!

  4. Well, on my most recent album, we decided to use software drums rather than have to deal with the drama associated with a real drummer. And all the headache that comes with trying to record drums. My last drummer was incredibly talented, but his wife just had his third baby in three years and I think he is going to have to sell his drums for Huggies.

It is incredibly satisfying to play with a good band, but incredibly frustrating when you invest years of time with people to have them bail out on you. It is so hard to find people who are 100% commited to playing gigs for little to no money and feel like they are doing something meaningful.

I like to play solo shows; I like to be in control of the situation. I feel I can hide my mistakes easier solo, because my solo mistakes don't screw up the whole band! I like to make up set lists on the go, and just pull out old songs that I barely remember just to see if I can.

  5. OK here is the geeky part..I have a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Tremoverb 100 W amp head with a 2x12 Recto cabinet (Celestian Vintage 30s) which is, coincidently, exactly the same rig that Jim James from My Morning Jacket uses.

I'm not sure how many of you guys are familiar with this amp, but it basically has a great sounding setting called "Vintage High Gain" that is perfect for some bluesy, classic rock tones; it is very versatile. Anyway, to make a long story short, I am looking for suggestions for an OD or Gain pedal that will just push it up a notch for solos and such. The amp sounds great already and I don't want something that is going to mess with the tone too much, just give it a little more punch when necessary.

I really tend to shy away from the really generic Boss pedals as they just seem soo....blah. (Even though they do make some decent stuff) I am open for suggestions if you got em! Thanks!

  6. Hey Breezy,

Right now, I am using a Mackie PA system with Powered speakers..they are not too heavy (about 40lbs each) considering they have the amplifiers built in, and they aren't ridiculously expensive . However, they sound FREAKING INCREDIBLE. I am constantly getting comments from people about how great they sound. Mackie powered speakers

Here's the way I look at it; your audience is only going to think that you are as good as you sound thru your PA system. Nothing boosts your confidence better than knowing you are playing behind a great sounding system.

You pretty much get what you pay for (though there are many inferior speakers that cost just as much if not more than the Mackies) and those cheapo Yamaha or Peavey systems just sound like muddy dog shit. You are much much better off spending a little more money for a great sounding set up.

The Mackie mixer board has phantom power built into it, has great sounds pre-amps, built in effects and is built like a tank.

Also, one other piece of gear that I couldnt live without is this acoustic preamp that just makes an acoustic guitar sounds incredible in the mix. You will just have to hear it for yourself to believe what a huge difference this makes.

    Hope this helps some!

  7. Thanks a lot Todd for the kind words!

My collaborator is my cousin Rick who lives in Western CO. I sent you a private message that explains how this project came to fruition.

I have been really enjoying Chicken on a Bicycle as well and I will be writing a full review of it for you soon.

Is there anyone else out there that would like to trade a cd with me? It has been a great experience so far, trading with Todd and hearing some cool new music that I would have other wise never heard.

I got the disc and listened to it today.

    It's a helluva accomplishment!

The songs are excellent and there is a great feel on there of some CSN/Grateful Dead/Wilco/Son Volt/Jayhawks, etc... Basically, yeah a solid Americana thing happening. I like the tunes and there is also some excellent guitar playing.

How did you meet your collaborator?

Oh, and also, on my record, I had some folks from far away record their bits without ever seeing them face-to-face. The internet is a beautiful thing, like that.

  8. I think that all the musicians on this board tend to shamelessly self promote. Especially right when we finish a record.

I think that we all just want to be heard.

Speaking of "right when we finish a record", I received my new cds today! Those folks are discmakers are incredible!

I was just blown away with how nice they came out looking and sounding. If any of you guys have albums for sale, please let me know where to find them. Mine can be found here http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/BrownRecluse1 as a digital download..I sent a shipment of cds to cdbaby today, so hopefully soon, you can order the real disc.

I live in NW indiana in the town where the Indiana Dunes State park is. I know all you guys from Chicago know where the Dunes park is, because every single weekend in the summer, the entire parking lot is full of Illinois plates!

  9. The basics: Im just about 33 years old from the Chicago area, been playing guitar for 20 years and writing songs for about 15. I have been carefully following Wilco's every move since Being There came out. The highlight so far: an acoustic Tweedy set in Kalamazoo MI in 2008 that was really intimate and incredible.

someone come on and say hello and introduce yourself to me! I know there are some people here that I can consider my "peers"! Dont make me sound desperate here!

  10. Hey Guys, I am relatively new here, so I know that means a few things:

    a) I must be a complete moron and a hack musician since I only have 5 posts on this forum

    B) most of the regulars are going to immediately attack me because I am the new kid on the block

    c) I hope I am wrong about all of these things

I started a thread a few weeks ago in the "Someone elses song" section and I was immediately attacked for "Street teaming" my music, which is a term that I really don't understand. I can assure you, that is not my intention here.

I would love to be a productive member of your forum community and I hope that I am among peers here who appreciate listening to and creating meaningful music. I hope that along way, some of you guys will take the time to listen to some of the music that I have created, offer some suggestions, insight and general observations. I love to write detailed album reviews and I am pretty damn good at it.

IF you have an album that you created, I would love to hear it. If it is something I like, I will buy it for sure since I am constantly looking for new and interesting music. If you have music that would like to have reviewed, please let me hear and I will do my best to give you an accurate assessment of what I think of it.

    Thanks for your time!
