  1. Not a bad show, but I was pretty disappointed in a very chatty cathy crowd. It makes me feel better that as much as that kind of shit annoys me, we all know how well it goes over with Mr. Tweedy. One Wing was the only slight letdown for me, it just felt kinda flat. Other than that, the main set was tight and the encore was extremely energetic. I know the hardcore "I've seen Wilco 37 times" guys wouldn't mind, but I gotta say I was hoping for either Via Chicago or Misunderstood in the set and was a bit sad that neither were played. Oh well, so many wonderful new songs off the new record that is helping make that previous "effort" a distant memory. This was my first Co show in 6 years (!) and it felt amazing to come back home. Oh, would whomever started this thread be kind enough to put the correct date so we fine Wilco fans down south don't look like a bunch of stupid hill folk who can't read a calendar...just saying lol

  2. 1. My dog's reaction to me coming home.

    2. Hearing someone say bless you after a sneeze.

    3. Uncontrolable laughter

    4. Seeing a couple on a date

    5. Being in a public place and hearing a song come on that most people don't know and then watching as everyone falls in love with it.

    6. A Newcastle in a dim, empty bar.

    7. A child's opinion.

    8. Getting a call out of the blue from my mother on a bad day.

    9. My sisters baked and crackin on everything.

    10. Being curled up on the sofa with someone you love.

  3. My 8 year old cries every time that Sarah McLaughlin commercial comes on and for that reason, I hate it too. It's disturbing enough that it's painful for an adult to watch, but it makes my son cry like a baby, which kills me even more.

There should totally be like a ten second delay before it comes on. Like a black screen with text that says we are about to show the the most fucked up comercial- ever.

  4. The new Black Keys record is just as awesome as the new Vampire Weekend and the new Frightened Rabbit. Finally got Valleys of Neptune and its pretty bitchin too. The new Freelance Whales album isn't as good as the albums I just mentioned but it ain't bad neither if you want something strange and indie.

  5. I read it, and I hear what you're saying. But I also like that late Zeppelin, for the same reason as the other poster here: it wasn't ruined for me by fm radio. Zeppelin II is an album I can no longer stand.

My music discussion buddy and I have been having the same back and forth as you and your friend. I have a couple of thoughts on the subject. First, this is the longest continuous line-up Wilco has ever had. Hasn't it been like 7 years now? As a live act, that has made them incredible. I can't emphasize that enough. I've seen every Wilco line-up, and this one seems able to do anything it wants. The Evening With shows would be impossible without all that awesome experience.

But as much as they are a band, this has obviously always been Jeff's band, and I it's impossible not to wonder if, while getting older, the band dynamics have settled into a particular pattern that is unhelpful in the studio. I mean, not to be a jerk, but I really wish someone had said SOMETHING to Jeff regarding You and I. It's just horrible on so many levels, adult rock blandness. The lyrics are really bad too. I wonder if Jay would have at least tweaked it into something interesting.

At some point (unless they decide to stay in the comfort zone that you describe) I would not be surprised to see Jeff shake the whole line-up again, maybe retaining John, who really is the glue to me, and probably Glenn, who would be hard to let go simply because he is one of the 4 or 5 best rock drummers out there, imo, and can play virtually any style on command, and in an original way.

Btw, I heartily disagree on SBS. I find new things to love about that album every time I hear it, and regard it as a 4.5 outta 5. A couple clunkers, but great arrangements and gorgeous dark lyrics throughout. W(TA) is their only real bomb to me, and even then I find myself liking a couple of songs here and there.

Thanks for taking the time to read it and I truly dug your feedback.

  6. while i do like the latest Frightened Rabbit album, i much prefer their previous two, especially 'Midnight Organ Fight'

Delta Spirit's new album is pretty sweet, but a lot mellower than the first

I haven't had a chance to hear the new one yet but I can't wait. I can't believe more people aren't on that band.

  7. I don't care for 30 Rock - so I don't watch it. NBC has quite a block of comedy going on there. I have been reading reports that Steve Carell is going to quit the show after next season.

Let him, that is what makes the office, no one part is greater than the other.

  8. The song The Modern Leper is pretty popular and for damn good reason as it is one of the very best Frightened Rabbit songs. But seriously, don't sleep on Delta Spirit. The XX are pretty damn good too if you want something chill.

  9. Provocative post, and I mean that in a good way.

Presence is my favorite Zeppelin album. Love it because I did not hear every song from it thousands of times on Classic Rock stations in the 80s.

And you hit it - Goat's Head Soup is no Exile. And I agree, WTA is no YHF. And I still listen to Goat's Head Soup and WTA because they are better than much of what is out there.

I think Wilco still has a good dose of studio mojo left in them.

Thanks alot man. I'm glad someone (probably the only one lol) took the time to read it.

  10. Have you checked out Delta Spirit? From what you listed I think you might really like them

And just in case you haven't heard of them or checked them out yet, for the love of god check out Frightened Rabbit if you haven't yet. They fucking rock.

  11. Just letting you know you've inspired a poll in the "someone else's song" forum. By the way I see you are from N.C., are those four Yuengling Lights one the counter in your profile picture...if so be grateful. It's kind of a long drive from here for one of those.

They are Yuengling Lights and they are a mighty taste-y beer. Kinda wish I had one now.

  12. Dude, I had the same thing goin on the first couple of time I heard them but that dude can't sing, at all. And the band is good, it's just that someone out there already does everything they do and better. I know that is a cold ass opinion, but I just was trying to hard to find a new band when I thought I liked them. Might want to see if you got a case of the same thing.
