  1. This song never disappoints in concert.  I love when guitar work throughout the song especially when Jeff and Pat play off each other.  I thought I read somewhere that the song was about how -ucked up some of the things Germany and Japan did during WW2 and that it is kind of an example that anything is possible and that no country/or person is immune to doing crazy shit if left unchecked.

  2. This is impossible but here goes. I think since I haven't overplayed the newer ones yet, they may be higher on my list.

    10-One Wing

    9-Bull Black Nova

    8-War on War

    7-You are my Face

    6-Art of Almost

    5-Handshake Drugs

    4-One Sunday Morning

    3-Impossible Germany

    2-Via Chicago

    1-Spiders

  3. Ok, since these shows aren't posted on the Wilco website, I am not sure how to request songs for the shows. Let's make those requests here, even if there is a .00002% chance that our requests make it to Jeff.

    I only have one request:

    Bull Black Nova

The song is epic, I have no idea how it would sound on the acoustic, it might not sound good at all. However, that is what I thought about Spiders, and Jeff's acoustic redition of Spiders is pretty awesome in my opinion.

  4. I forgot to mention Jeff's best quote of the night after he was having trouble with the Late Greats and tuning his guitar. He said, "Rahm is much more prepared to be mayor than I am for this show, which isn't saying much." I bet there were some Rahm supporters there that had never heard of Jeff and weren't impressed considering he stopped mid way through the Late Greats. Little do they know that they were watching one of the best (if not best) singer/songwriters playing today.

  5. I live 2 blocks from the Park West, so I decided to go at the last minute as well. Apparently, Rahm introduced the best "band" in Chicago not realizing that Wilco wasn't about to take the stage. Rahm mentioned how great the "band" was a few different times in his intro. Clearly, Rahm is not that familiar with Jeff's work and has no idea how amazing Jeff is. So, Jeff opened by saying, "it's just me." The political rhetoric was at a minimum, maybe 3 minutes in all. Jeff played for about 50 minutes, and I think 10 of those minutes he spent tuning his guitar. Or the tuning was some sort of acoustical version of Less Than You Think? Just kidding. Jeff actually joked how great of theatre it is to watch him tune his guitar. Rahm also mentioned something about 7 songs, and 7 Supreme Court Justices when wrapping the evening up? I thought there were 9 Supreme Court Justices? Anyways, Jeff was great, and hilarious as always. It was cool to see Jeff sing with JC on the funky version of IATTBYH. I was happy that I attended the event even though it was expensive and a very short set. I've spent $85 in many worse ways.

  6. I know Jeff likes to leave many songs to his listener's interpretation, but has anyone heard him speak to what this song is about? This is one of my favorite Wilco songs (I realize I just alienated half the memebers of this board by making that claim)and I have some thoughts on what it means to me but have no idea what it means to Jeff.

    Spiders (Kidsmoke)

Spiders are singing in the salty breeze

Spiders are filling out tax returns

Spinning out webs of deductions and melodies

On a private beach in Michigan

Why can't they wish their kisses good

Why do they miss when their kisses should

Fly like winging birds fighting for the keys

On a private beach in Michigan

    This recent rash of kidsmoke

    All these telescopic poems

    It's good to be alone

Why can't they say what they want

Why can't they just say what they mean

    Come clean, listen and talk

    Hello private callers, IDs blocked

The sun will rise, we'll climb into cars

The future has a valley and a shortcut around

Who will wear the crown of drowning award

Hold a private light on a Michigan shore

You fool me with a kiss of kidsmoke

    From a microscopic home

    It's good to be alone

    I'll be in my bed

    You can be the stone

    That raises from the dead

    And carries us all home

There's no blood on my hands

I just do as I am told

  7. I just registered to this forum recently but have visited the site for years. Anyways, I was wondering if there is a spot on the forum that discusses the meanings behind the lyrics to Jeff's/Wilco's writing? I tried using the search tool but didn't find much. I know there are other web sites out there; but I thought the best place to discuss Wilco lyrics would be on a forum that is devoted to the band. Thanks in advance and I am sorry if I am overlooking where to find this information on the forum.

  8. It was a great show but Jeff was not there. When Mavis mentioned his name the first time, the place erupted with cheers. I saw Pat there, he was sporting a huge beard and I am pretty sure I saw Mikael as well. It was cool to see Mavis, and I am sure many of the people there would not have been there had Jeff not produced her last record. It's pretty awesome that she got a lot of new fans this late in her career, she is truely an amazing performer!
