  1. Stunningly beautiful building. Totally worth the traffic from San Diego. Much different set from Tempe, luckily. Some friends said it was their fave show of the 3 LA shows. Fun funny stuff from Jeff..... "We'll be back here for the Grammy's where we'll be up against the Foo Fighters again. (pause) Fuckin' Foo Fighters. You guys all comin to the Grammys? I know YOU'RE going to the Grammys, Miss Front Row checking my Blackberry every ten seconds!" Nels Cline, the 82nd greatest guitarist of all-time. (referencing Rolling Stone's list) I dunno, I'd put him in the mid 70's but 82's
  2. Having posted this a couple of days ago, Jeff's comment last night was even more hilarious: Well, it looks like we've divided our audience.....the standers and the sitters (huge applause). I'm not going to choose a side. It's like a red state/blue state thing. I know where *I* stand!" (HUGE applause) Pretty sure it was right before "Can't Stand It", which made it all the funnier when they got to the chorus. We kept laughing throughout the night as almost the whole crowd would stand and sit for the slower/upbeat songs. Unlike any show i'd ever been to but not unlike my Bar Mitzvah.
  3. Interesting to see how many show reviews mention how much standing or sitting there is. Tempe was my second Wilco show in a row I was asked to sit down. First time was a few years ago in San Diego during the first song and I was pretty excited but my section took a vote apparently and chose to sit. Girl behind me asked us to sit so I got up on top of my seat and danced for a little then lost the will to have fun. In Tempe last week we were in the balcony and sat until the encore when everyone got up, then sat back down leaving just us. Oh well. Couple my parents' age (60's?) asked us to
  4. Never noticed it until the Tempe show. It's not like FBDO takes place in Chicago or anything. Movie clip:
  5. Thanks! Have zero idea if it'll be better or worse this time. Just one real rehearsal means it'll be loose, for sure. SO jealous you got to see 'em in Pioneertown. LOVE it there. The SD venue is a VERY upscale jazz club with a huge projection screen right above the stage. A little strange for a show like that but it made for some humorous moments.
  6. Well, we learned all of AM a few weeks ago and figured we should do it one more time. We made sure to forget it so it won't be any better but we've got s'more of San Diego's finest faces along for the ride. Showed John the flyer at the SD Autumn Defense show and got a bonafide LOL out of it. We talked Big Star and other stuff for awhile. Super nice, of course. ROOKIE CARD & friends play Wilco's AM + REMers Murmur at Pussy Galore Friday February 11th at 9:00pm The Whistle Stop 2236 Fern St San Diego, CA FREE FINALE! Once last time, Rookie Card gathers some of San Diego's finest to
  7. Well, it was a blast. Not perfect but not bad considering how little rehearsal we had. Definitely a ton of fun and one happy birthday girl. Fun enough and enough time spent on it to want to do it one more time, which we'll do on Friday February 11th at SD's fave neighborhood bar, the Whistle Stop. I'll post a flyer when we gots one. Roadtrip, my Wilco'ers. Roadtrip. Here's Michael Rennie from local country-rock coverband Rio Peligroso (and funny enough, a semi-wellknown local band called AM Vibe) doing Shouldn't Be Ashamed with us. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scVMZaaJCWk Pics: http:
  8. What a fun night. Funny, just dug up a photo last week. Closest we'll get to opening for Wilco! We thought learning Joe DiMaggio's Done It Again would be the most appropriate one for us to learn. Sadly, the baseball lampshades disappeared at a show. It's been such a blast rehearsing these songs with friends playing banjo, pedal, fiddle, lapsteel. Hopefully some video will end up gettin' shot. Does anyone know another good place to whore this out to other Wilco fans who might appreciate it? Please feel free to forward it. Thanks!
  9. We usually go out of our way to piss off purists but we're playing this one straight. An all-yodel version would be TIGHT, no? Not much of a guitar player, thank god someone posted the Dash 7 tuning on Youtube or I'd be screwed. Sounded awesome with our pedal steel player right away. Fantastic song. Just tried unsuccessfully to get us on the SD Autumn Defense show. Never hurts to ask! For silliness, you can check out http://www.CoverMeBadd.com . We've done everything from the Specials to Weezer to Oasis to Big Star.... (hey Posieperson!)
  10. My little outfit Rookie Card got asked to play for the first time in a few years right when we were kicking around the idea of doing AM for my girlfriend's birthday, so here goes nothing. We've recruited some of the coolest folks in town to help out and make it a real family affair. If there's any SoCal boardies, c'mon out! If you've never heard of us, that's because we didn't get out too much, besides winning a San Diego Music Award and opening for everyone from Soul Asylum to Tommy Stinson to Calexico.... We even begged our way into playing before I Am Trying To Break Your Heart at our lo
