  1. King Crimson was great last night. fantastic band Fripp's got going.

Seeing them tomorrow night at the Ryman!

Got a friend barely flying in in time to make it downtown. Do they start at the scheduled time or run a little late?

  2. Never said that Wilco's set was better Than MMJ's... but that I would have preferred to have seen Wilco get the longer slot. I did enjoy the show and I don't think I have ever seen a crowd more enthralled by a band in my life. It was really a sight. But I just couldn't help thinking that they were pushing it too far. How long was their set? 22 songs. Nearly three hours? They could have had 6 or 7 more songs in the set. They were into it though, being in front of the hometown crowd. I'd like to see them again but maybe cover a Television tune ( See No Evil ?) and a little less on the Wham!. Looking forward to this years Forecastle Fest lineup announcement Monday.

  3. I would have to go with these.

    XTC - Drums and Wires

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

    Bowie - Ziggy Stardust

Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food

    Jefferson Airplane  - Surrealistic Pillow

Love and Rockets - Seventh Dream of a Teenage Heaven

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

Paul & Linda McCartney - Ram

    Squeeze - Argybargy

    Wilco - YHF

No order. Just some of my perfect albums

  4. In related news, my daughter and I snuck into the venue yesterday afternoon where Andrew Bird was playing last night (which of course we attended). It's the campus venue for UK, and my daughter attends UK and has performed in that center a few times, so she kinda knew her way around. I just wanted to get in for sound check, which is something I've always wanted to do but not had the chance. As we were going in the back door of the venue, a guy comes wheeling up past us on his bicycle to the back door, hops off and heads in. Andrew Bird. He nodded at us and started talking to one of the stage persons there, and we chickened out to even say "hi" since we weren't exactly supposed to be there. Regretted that for the rest of the day, to say the least. Moral of the story: "teh do it!!". And sound check was really, really cool. Glad we crashed that.

However, my daughter's sock monkey did get to meet Andrew's sock monkey, courtesy of a very nice woman running the merch table. His is the well dressed one on the right. They seemed to enjoy meeting each other.

I also got to meet Andrew Bird at this show. I took my boys 16 and 10 and one of the older son's friends. We were kinda scoping out the back of the venue. I went to school at UK for a few years so I knew there wasn't a whole lot of places for them to hide. Sure enough he was out back hanging out with his band. I really didn't think to even ask for an autograph. I just complemented them on the new record and the tour. Told them that this was our fifth show this year. They seemed to like that. My son was smart enough to ask for a picture, while I just got a hand shake. Later he was playing Frisbee with the bass player but I left them alone. Great show too!
  5. Heading down to NOLA next week end and was wondering if anyone had some good record store recommendations? Staying in the Treme. Three blocks north of the Quarter. If you are looking for accommodations try Airbnb online. Saved me lots of cash to spend on music and booze.

  6. Black Sea just never hit me as much as their other records. I don't think of it in terms of being a bad record. It has some classic songs on there but I always felt that it felt forced. Kinda like it was their attempt at making the "record company album".

I was at a friends party one night when I had a liking for this girl there that I had just meet and we were talking and getting along when I just had to play that song that was ruling the day for me at the time. " No language in Our Lungs" Great song however I soon was to discover that she was a journalism major. End of conversation... I can only laugh now.

  7. I get that the systems broken and the lesser of two evils blah blah blah.... but most folks are missing the whole point of this election and that is that the next president will be seating maybe three Supreme Court Justices in the next term. They are going to decide the fate of this country over the next twenty years. If a GOP controlled President (they have already said so... We just need somebody to sign the laws!) gets this chance it will set us back 50 years. Goodbye individual hello corporate masters.

I'm not thrilled with Obama but he has governed from the center and tried to do what will move the country forward.
