  1. (looks around) Did you purposefully leave off In A Future Age because of the Candyfloss/A Shot In The Arm ending on that album?

    ....shit.

I left it off accidentally because I am an idiot and don't deserve to be a Wilco fan.

    Edited. Really sorry guys.

  2. Great topic!

Is there also a thread for best closing song? Who would like to start it? :-)

I voted I Am Trying to Break Your Heart in the Best Opener thread. The poll is for the studio albums, not their live shows!

I was debating putting Say You Miss Me in here, even though it's not a true closer... oh well.

  3. I really like this song. Alot.

I wasn't too hot about it when I first listened to it, but I really, really like it now.

Open Mind > Capitol > Standing are where TWL sags for me, though. Only a teeny tiny little bit. But Rising Red Lung > The Whole Love > OSM are there to pick the album up and lift it to legendary status.

Well, legendary behind YHF and GIB.

  4. Easily one of my top 3 favorite Wilco songs of all time. It's pretty overlooked, I'm curious to see what you guys think about it. I love John's part during the riff of the demo version, wonder why they took it out of the album version.

'It's become so obvious: you are so oblivious to yourself.'

  5. Oh geez, you know what ruined my night? I think these are being finished in Blue Mist... not Pelham Blue. Who is the idiot that made that decision? )))): Gibson is always letting everyone down, it seems.

I e-mailed American Musical to confirm that it is indeed blue mist and not pelham blue. This is such a deal breaker for me ))):

  6. I am looking forward toward the shadows tracing bones

Our faces stitched and sewing, our houses hemmed into homes

Totally forgot about You Are My Face, the lyrics to that are unreal.

Mainly because I am a dog lover...

when dogs laugh some say they’re barking

    I don’t think they’re mean

    some people get so frightened

    the fences in between

I would say the entire set of lyrics for Spiders as well.

    I'm glad someone posted that, if I did, it would have been a little redundant (;

  7. Really? That little guitar "riff", if you can even call it that, has actually been one of the many reasons why I love this song. My friend and I were listening to this in the car last night (he's a guitar player), and he actually said that those exact two guitar notes were his favorite part of the song. It's the paramount expression of restraint - just enough to let you know Nels' presence is there, but not enough to transcend the vibe of the song. It was more than intentional, you can tell that whoever did the mix purposefully emphasized that little riff. It occurs in the center of the stereo mix, versus some other Nels' licks in this song that occur on the right. Center stage for a total of less than 2 seconds, then gone again... "Outside, I look lived in..."

    Just masterful.

  8. Yeah, I didn't remember your nickname. Sorry. lol

I also have a special prejudice for those albums for a couple other reasons: 1) I'm a writer myself & 2) I discovered Wilco by way of a 1998 Jeff Tweedy solo show, so the lyrics of some of those songs were already kicking my ass before I even heard the official releases.

That's really cool, how did you end up at a Jeff Tweedy solo show if you weren't a Wilco fan? Did you tag along with a friend?

    I was pissin blood>

The lyrics on wilcoworld read: "And it was piss and blood". I think it'd be super badass if it was "I was pissin' blood". One of my favs as well!

  9. Not to derail this thread, but the person who mentioned their befuddlement at some fans' dislike of SBS should read these. There were no lyrics of this caliber on that album. These great quotes are mainly from ST, BT, AGIB & YHF, the four greatest albums in the Wilco discography.

You might be talking about me, or some other guys on here. I agree with you. I also agree that lyrically, those four albums are the best. I really like Impossible Germany lyrics though:

The fundamental problem we all need to face/

Gorgeous and alone, face to face

And here's some more Wilco lyrics:

I'm not lying, sure, it seems like I'm trying to get back at you.
