  1. Loved it.  FOB audience up on etree (see "In A Future Age").

I won't be there tonight, hopefully someone else will record.  If you bring gear, bookmark the Wilco taping policy on your phone, and be prepared to employ some misdirection and Jedi Mind Tricks.  Here's one got me in the door:

Security:  You can't bring that in here.

Me:  They allow audience taping, I'm allowed.

Security:  You can't bring that in here.

Me: Surely you don't think I'd bring all this stuff here if I weren't allowed to record....

Security:  Go check in at that next table.....

at the "next table" further hi-jinx ensued, and I was directed to "check in "at the desk on the left, you need a wristband".

another hint - don't do it.  that's the photo pass desk, photographers need passes and wristbands, tapers don't (see Wilco taping policy)  there was all kinds of hand-wringing and exercises of authority and abuses of power going on over there, I avoided it like the plague.

I had to dodge at least one more suit before I got to my seat and set up.  thought I was home free.  after the show, I'm breaking down, another

security guy wants to see my "note from the band".  What?  "you need a note from the band to do that".  That's when I pulled my phone out, showed him the Wilco taping policy, and he walked off, somewhat disappointed he didn't make the big bust.

    Have fun kids!

  2. perhaps he's overwhelmed by the whole thing, and starting small......

or maybe he's thinking if he posts the Wilco sets first, noone will listen to Kurt Vile.....

or maybe he's listening to his four different sources for 6/23, and wondering which one to post.....(I'm thinking the shotguns...)

maybe he just needs a nap.

  3. here's my review and photos from the weekend:

    >Whereas Cline’s record collection is likely filled with Derek Bailey and Sonny Sharrock LPs, Sansone’s has to have a healthy dose of The Faces, Big Star and The Band, and that mixture is one of the secrets to >what makes this band so great.

Spot on.  The mixture-balance-tension between these very different, but somehow very complimentary musicians  is a big part of the secret sauce, imo.

Though I did see Nels rip through an impressive lead on the Rolling Stones' "Happy" when I saw him play with Phil Lesh a couple Halloweens ago, so I think he might have heard that record too.  Maybe.

  4. point well taken.  actually I copied the set list from post #11 above, which was a repost from a facebook post.  oh well.

can't change it now, the horse is out of the barn.  once it's on the torrent site, I'd only take it down for a major problem, 'cause it would screw up the people already downloading it.

I also screwed up the tag for the 1-29 show, putting the year at 2106.  In a Future Age.....

  6. yeah i don't think the curfew time's changed. for whatever reason, the band kept it a bit shorter. maybe it'll be a bit longer tonight!

WRP, i saw your friend's mics. tell him that I appreciated that he kept them relatively low and not in the way. the Concord NH show a few years back had big, blocky mics that interfered w/ my sight lines to Jeff the entire night.

I was all set to hang my big blocky mics off the balcony last night, until WRP came through with a 10th row center seat, so I went with the low pro mics and kept them slightly above head height for the most part.  They were a little higher at first, until someone three rows behind me asked me to lower them, so I did.    Actually, we were 9th row.  The Orpheum starts at Row DD, we were in MM, and somehow there is no Row II.

Personally, I don't get why people are so bugged by mic stands (unless they're totally out of control and/or the taper is discourteous, thinks his "right" to record is more important than everyone else's good time). But then, I don't get a lot of things.  I've been behind people with silly hats that were more obstructing, yet no-one asks them to take them off, and you can't listen to the hat after the show.

BTW Tinnitus - do you mind if I use one of your photos (with watermark) as "album art" in the FLAC tags of the recording? Hopefully, it will be posted shortly on bt.etree.org.  WRP takes great cellphone shots, but he's no match for you.......

PS - I'll be hanging my big blocky mics off the balcony tonight, out of everyone's line of sight - unless WRP comes up with more seats down front, in which case I'll go low-pro again.

    Cheers!

  7.

Sounds great. At first I thought it was a little bassy (sound that way on my computer's speakers), but in headphones I didn't get any over blown bass at all.

    Grab it!

oftentimes, good fobs will overwhelm computer speakers, car speakers and stock headphone amps in your computer or DAP, but will sound great on a real stereo (or a decent set of headphones properly amplified). has to do with the sound pressure levels and the extended low frequencies at the show I think.

the 460's do a fair job with bass and spl. wish I could swing a pair of 480s, but they don't come up on the used market that often - and I'd have to sell my car for neumanns or schoeps. ;)
