  1. I always make a point of standing stage left so I can be in front of Pat. He's just so fun to watch. My favorite Pat moment is from the Tweedy solo show in Milwaukee where the Autumn Defense opened. Jeff was playing IATTBYH and stopped suddenly in the middle. Pat was backstage playing along on the Steinway he and John were ogling over during their set! I had a good view of the wings and out jumped Pat with a huge grin on his face. Jeff motioned for him to go back to the piano and they finished the song together. The spontaneity of it all was refreshing.

  2. Hey all,

I have this song, Crack a Smile, a real hauting and sparse number, on my computer and I can't remember where it is from. Is it a Wilco outtake? Almost sounds like a Summerteeth demo or something.

    Help.

It's from a Jandek tribute disc called Down in a Mirror issued by Summerstep Records.

  3. Ghost piano:

Autumn Defense opened and they had a Steinway piano on stage which Pat Sansone was playing. They rolled it off to the side of the stage. While Jeff was playing Im Trying To Break Your Heart, if you were close enough, you could barely hear the piano part being played off in the distance. Jeff noticed and seemed startled in a way, he turned his head to his left and smiled when he saw Pat backstage fingering the keys. jeff stopped playing for a bit and Pat played the piano part of the song. Jeff incorporated the lyrics "pat is trying to break My heart."

afer the song, jeff bowed to pat. it was a classic moment because it surprised everyone since you couldnt see Pat.

I was in the fourth row and had a great view of the wings on stage left. As soon as the piano playing stopped, Pat emerged looking like he got his hand caught in the cookie jar. Jeff gestured for him to keep playing and Pat dashed back to the piano, which was out of sight behind the curtains, and finished the song. It was hilarious. I think Pat just couldn't help himself! :D

...and yes, I'm going to Lollapalooza. I'm not a big fan of festivals but I just couldn't pass this one up. Last time I went was 14 years ago. I went with some friends and given that we were 14 at the time, my mother drove us. She waited in the car while we rocked out for the afternoon. My mom rules. :rock
