  1. I'm moving, so I have to throw away all the tickets I had for the summer.

The Louisville ticket is Row E, seat 313. It's will call. I am going to see if I can transfer the ticket, and if so I will sell it to someone for cheap. cost me 57$, I'll probably let go of it for half that if I can get rid of it.

Solid Sound tickets are Early Bird pricing. I won't get the tickets until May, but they will be 130$ per ticket, shipped.

Also, if there is any interest, I have GREAT tickets to MMJ in Chicago, all 3 nights. As well as Columbus, OH, both nights. (all tickets are GA pit or front row. some may be spoken for, but they will be let go of cheap as well.)

  2. Yeah, the Louisville pre-sale was much kinder than the Cincy one.  I got 3rd row on the Pat/John side (sec 3) near the middle.

Will have to wait for Friday to try Cincy, although LiveNation may have a presale

I'm on that side too. I don't know if I've ever been on that side.

I'm also planning on going to Cincy, but I'm probably going to take my parents, so I will probably opt for something a little further. Maybe something on the balcony if the venue has a balcony

  3.

Here's some New England tour vibes for you from Kentucky!!

Feel free to send presale vibes down this way around 9:55AM today.

I totally forgot about the presale, but still just somehow pulled 5th row for Iroquois. 2 hours late, so I'm happy.

  4. In 2013, I was given a ticket to Jim James solo debut show at Grimey's in Nashville. There was 100 people in the building, total (band, staff, audience, etc). Carl (MMJ guitarist) opened with a solo set. Jim James and his other band came out and played their album all the way through for the first time.  The Encore is what mattered though. Carl came back out and they played a mini-MMJ set to ~80 fans in a room smaller than my apartment.

Forecastle 2012 (in general, because MMJ and Wilco headlined), but mainly because MMJ were supposed to play a soundcheck show for Roll Call members, but it got rained out, so they played an acoustic show under the overpass that runs behind the great lawn in Louisville. So basically the whole band just stood in a circle, which was surrounded by a bigger circle of their fans. It became known as the Under The Overpass show, and it was amazing.

  5. Hardly my dream MMJ set, but I too am surprised at the lack of love for the band. I was into them long before I got into Wilco and really love their first four records, five if you count the Okonokos double live record, which slays. It Still Moves is one hell of a record, probably my favorite studio album of theirs. Highly recommend it.

Wilco has since surpassed MMJ in my favorite bands list, and I've yet to see an MMJ concert, but like tinnitus, in my circle of friends/music lovers, there's a great deal of crossover between the two. I didn't get a chance to hit an Americanarama show, but personally, if I had an opportunity to see Wilco and MMJ the same weekend, I'd be ecstatic. But that's just me.

not my dream setlist either, by any stretch of the imagination. I just think it would fit into the SS atmosphere.

If MMJ was at some point your favorite band, and you haven't seen them yet, then you will really really have your mind blown when you first see them. Wilco might have passed them as my favorite band also, but MMJ is still the best live band around. I'm actually choosing Solid Sound over One Big Holiday this year, so it would be majorly comforting for me if jacket is at SS.

And yes, ISM is their best album.

  6. I thought they were all right when I first saw them. They had some pretty good songs, and some not so good songs. The energy was high. They were really, really loud. They rocked.

I tried listening to some of their official recorded output, and could not get into it at all.

At this point, my enjoyment of this thread is much greater than my enjoyment of their live set. That's not a slam: I am really, really enjoying the direction this thread has taken.

Can't wait until the rumor proves wrong and I steered this thread in this direction for nothing.

  7. I have no first hand knowledge of this but I dont see how these shows have any bearing on whether or not there is a solid sound festival. It makes no sense.

For the Vic shows to happen all they need to do is book 2 nights in Tweedy's home city and drive the gear over there. It's not like they have to organize getting  6 people's schedules together for a 2 night run.

I would be shocked if these are happening with two Tweedy shows there in march along with the recent 6 night run.  I guess even Chicago needs a Wilco break which is disappointing because I would actually rather go to the solo shows than a Wilco show.

I won't claim to be the most knowledgable about charities and/or booking shows, but I really don't think that its that easy.

And I agree, I think the Tweedy shows are taking the charity show's places this year.

  8. Just to clarify, since I was one of the first to express discontent with MMJ at SS and I don't want to be lumped into the MMJ haters, I really like the band and respect that lots of folks whose musical tastes I share think they're a phenomenal live band (the 1x I saw them I thought they were good, but not to that level).  I just don't see them fitting in at SS, probably for the reason that they're too much of a headliner in their own right and for me Wilco should be the only "headliner" at SS.  So there you have it, not a MMJ hater, would see them whenever I could, just not at SS.

all of this I agree with. It's the reason why I'm very skeptical about the rumor.

Also, I don't want anyone on the line up that draws non-wilco fans to the fest. I mean, I'd be THRILLED to see them on the bill, but its certainly not why I'm going.

to say again, I don't care who does/doesn't like MMJ. I don't think everyone needs to like them. I just get so damn excited about them when I talk about them that I get carried away. Especially since they're coming out of a very, very quiet year. I can't wait for them to re-emerge.

I don't want to get too carried away and start a long thread about why anyone should convert, but in my case personally, I fell in love with MMJ and Wilco in a very similar way. They both had songs that I liked enough, but I never really "got it". Then after enough forced listens, something just clicked. Then I saw them both live, and thats what really sold me. Honestly, thats the arch of most of my most loved bands. Anything I immediately find catchy usually fades pretty quickly.

  9. I am always surprised to hear all the MMJ hate in the wilco community. Maybe its just because they're the two most important bands in my world. Different strokes, I guess...

I know that MMJ is a lot louder. At one of the AmericanA shows I went to, Jeff actually made a joke about how Wilco would never be as loud as MMJ.  That being said, MMJ is the best live act I've ever seen ( and I've now seen them over 50 times). MMJ is what basically started it all for me in the world of today's rock and roll, and if it wasn't for them I probably never would've found Wilco. *If* the rumor is true, I urge everyone to give them a chance.

Another thing to know is that JJ is very aware of the situation of every show. They headlined Newport FF a couple of years ago and this was their setlist:

    1. Welcome Home

    2. Golden

    3. The Way That He Sings

    4. It Beats 4 U

    5. Wonderful

    6. Bermuda Highway (w/ Will Johnson)

    7. Victory Dance

    8. Dondante

    9. It Makes No Difference (w/ Brittney Howard from AL Shakes)

    10. Smoking From Shootin (w/ Ben Sollee and Conor Oberst)

    11. Movin Away

    12. I'm Amazed

To break that down to everyone, its pretty much the Wilco fan's dream MMJ set. A cover of The Band, and mostly all acoustic based/mid-tempo rock songs. Dondante and I'm Amazed being the major exceptions. Plus appearances by folk/americana artists. That is not like their average show, and I would believe that it's for the reason of them playing at NFF.

Typing all that out makes me really believe that the Wilco/MMJ crossover is pretty significant. I know I'm not a spokes person for that band, and I know that not everyone needs to like them, but....

At the end of the day, Tweedy is my favorite song writer, but Jim James and co are a hell of a rock and roll band, and the best live band around these days...

  10. Every rumor I have heard about MMJ playing any festival so far has been correct (Gov Ball, Roo, Hangout). That being said I'm pretty sure MMJ will be playing SS15. Rumors are rumors so it's not definite until its announced, but it's something that's been going around. If they played I'd imagine they would headline Wilco's night off.

I know that wont sit well with a lot of people around here, but if they play I'll be super excited.

  11. Thought that might be you. :wave

That's a pretty good coincidence. I just went over there today to join and add my name to the roll call, and saw your name. This is AFTER I asked you your favorite band.

Yup that's me. Maybe I'll meet you at OBH or SS. I'm not 100% on OBH but trying to get a last minute room. I went last year, it's an amazing time. That rumor comes from a pal of mine who hasn't yet lied to me about these kinds of things.

  12. Not happy to read this news.  But not unprecedented.  At the first Solid Sound, Wilco did not play Friday night (there was no major headliner).  Wilco played only Saturday night, and Tweedy did a solo acoustic set to close it out on Sunday afternoon.  I don't care who they bring in, I would prefer to see two full Wilco sets Friday and Saturday night.  But I'm going Either Way.

Honestly, I have no clue how the schedule will look. I just heard that they are going to have a major headliner. The scheduling was just my prediction. If they do have the headliner I've heard, I would think it would be Wilco two nights and the other on their off night. And Tweedy (the band) and/or Tweedy accoustic set would not close out whatever night they play.

Personally I'm really excited about the rumors if they're true. I just assumed another headliner would mean 2 nights of Wilco and 1 night of my other favorite band. We shall see, I guess.

I have heard nothing about SS other than great things, and the only qualm I would have with another major act is that it could lead to overcrowded-ness throughout the years.

  13. I know its not really SS's style, but I heard they're going to have a major headliner that isn't Wilco one night. I guess Wilco usually plays 2 nights? I've never been to SS so I don't know much about it, but I thought it was usually obvious that Wilco was the biggest band on the bill significantly. If thats true, this year will be different.
