  1. FYI, whoever's keeping track of this, the latest edition of the Live on WXRT charity comp — Volume 17, I think — came out today (at Chicago area Targets) and the first track is a live performance of Box Full Of Letters from the Riv Winterlude shows on 12/6/14.

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

I've been neglecting this list for way too long.

There's also Jeff's "Theme in Yellow" on David Nagler & Friends’ new album Carl Sandburg’s Chicago Poems

  2. See you there! Bloomington Center Section Row 16!

WOOT!  Bloomington, center section, row 8.  This was a very pleasant pre-sale experience!  No drama!  No anxiety!! No shopping mysterious disappearances!!!

  3. I thought that was odd too, but I needed 2 anyway so it didn't make a different. Row 16 in Bloomington!

Well that was odd. The ticket sales page defaulted to two tickets; I was only trying to order 1. I cleared my cart and started over, but got the same thing. Next, I didn't think there was an option and debated for a minute about just buying two tix and trying to sell the 2nd. The I finally figured out how to change the number of tickets (the option is at page upper right, away from the other ordering details, so not in my immediate line of sight - when I scrolled down to choose my desired section the ticket selection option went off screen.).  Damn these mobile-friendly websites. Confusing as heck for an old dinosaur desktop user. So, I guess I got a decent seat but might have been even closer had I been able to figure out to do what I wanted to do, in the first place.

    See you in Ithaca.

  4. Thank you! I never got this e-mail. This helps a lot.

I've had a great 3 weeks of seeing my favorite bands live, so I'll quickly put up the individual links. I hope that this can help anyone who winds up getting a late email.

  5. Thank you! I'm surprised I missed that Live From Nowhere Near you track, because I remember when that was announced. I don't have a date. I need to revamp the whole list in light of the recent "Alpha Mike Foxtrot." There was a couple on there that I don't have listed and I need make it more clear what is and what isn't on that collection.

Hi, I've got two tracks that don't appear to be on the list.

"Dawned On Me" - KBCO: Live in Studio C, vol 24  [looks like the date is June 16, 2012]

"Someday Some Morning Sometime" - Live From Nowhere Near You, vol 2  [i don't know the date]

I'm especially curious to find a date on that latter track.

  6. My only complaint is the exclusion of several songs from The Whole Love (Message From Mid-Bar, Speak into the Rose, Sometimes it Happens, I Got You (alternative soundtrack version), You Never Know (7 Worlds Collide Version), Art Of Almost (ALT Version),

Black Moon (Alt.), I Might (demo), and Me Avivé)

I was really pleasantly surprised to see the cover songs and the live tracks. So many compilations like this don't include cover songs. And if you're going to include the live tracks, please include all of them. It includes 4 of the LP only bonus tracks from Kicking Television (Another Man's Done Gone, How to Fight Loneliness, Theologians, I'm a Wheel) and but excludes others. (Kamera, Just a Kid, Monday, Outtasite (Outta Mind))

Add in those 13 tracks and you've got another disc!

Don't get me know! I'll buy it the day of release!

  7. KT vinyl added:

    Another Man's Done Gone

    How to Fight Loneliness

    Theologians

    Kamera

    Just a Kid

    Monday

    Outtasite (Outta Mind)

    I'm a Wheel

What I find odd is that some of these are included (Another Man's Done Gone, How to Fight Loneliness, Theologians, I'm a Wheel) and some are not (Kamera, Just a Kid, Monday, Outtasite (Outta Mind))

  8. Only track I'm not sure where it came from is "What Light." This is an ablum track and it doesn't list this as Live. I not familaer with What Light being released commercially as a live track anyway. Anyone know?

Several of the bonus tracks from vinyl version of Kicking Television are missing also.

    1. "Kamera"
    2. "Just a Kid"
    3. "Monday"
    4. "Outtasite (Outta Mind)"
  9. I was hoping we'd get some of The Wilco Book songs on this, just because I'd like to hear some of that on vinyl, maybe I can hope for a vinyl pressing at some point though.

The track list includes "Hummingbird (Alternate Version)," and as far as I can tell, this is the "Soma Version" from The Wilco Book. I don't recall any other alternate versions of that song.

  10. I Love My Label is included, and that was a dBpm release, so Wilco is probably involved to some extent.

"I Love My Label," "Dark Neon" and "Unlikely Japan" are all from the dBpm era. Strangely, other tracks from post 2011/nonesuch split, even tracks from "The Whole Love" Deluxe edition, weren't included.

    • Message From Mid-Bar - Speak Into the Rose 10" EP, “The Whole Love” Deluxe edition
    • Speak into the Rose - Speak Into the Rose 10" EP, “The Whole Love” Deluxe edition
    • Sometimes it Happens - Linda Thompson/Brian Patten cover - iTunes “The Whole Love” bonus track and “The Whole Love” LP
    • I Got You (alternative version) - "This is 40" soundtrack
    • You Never Know (7 Worlds Collide Version with Neil Finn and Liam Finn)
    • Art Of Almost (ALT Version) - Speak Into the Rose 10" EP
    • Black Moon (Alt.) - “The Whole Love” Deluxe edition
    • I Might (demo) - Speak Into the Rose 10" EP
    • Me Avivé (Spanish version of Dawned on Me) - iTunes only single
  11. I hope the "Cars Can't Escape" version here is the slower demo version that only had Jay on the piano. That version was beautiful, but always was cut off at the end as someone said "Beautiful" before the final note finished. I'll pay the 30 bucks for that song alone if they have cleaned it up. I think I have most, if not all of these tracks from the archives, but I really hope they have improved on the sound. I think most hardcore Wilco fans would expect that to be done before they shell out money for tracks that had for years and that were free.

That's a great version, but my guess is this will be the "official" version they released for free on their web site.

  12. just found out it is Bayfront Festival Park, Duluth, MN/July 9, 2013.

    Cool! Thanks!

A new 7″ record from Tweedy (Jeff Tweedy and son, Spencer) is now available at indie stores like Bull Moose (or my local Graham’s Records). The 7″ includes “Summer Noon” from that upcoming LP, Sukierae, and an unreleased B-side of “Do The Minimum” while the colored pressing is limited to 2,000 copies. The 7″ also comes with a coupon for $4 off the upcoming LP.

So you basically get it for free if you were planning on buying the album anyways on September 23rd.

  13. And more from the current email:

And the anniversary revelry won't stop there – we'll soon announce news about two forthcoming releases – Wilco's first-ever Best Of collection and a Rarities box we're pretty sure you're gonna love.

The best of collection is intriguing just because of the multiple record companies invovled. I hope it spans their whole career. I won't buy it, but there may be new fans that will. As long as they don't pull that shit where there's one new track in the collection and it's not available for individual downloading.

Now a rarities box! That's something that could be immensely cool. Hopefully out by Christmas.

  14. I'm removing "Summer Noon" because it will be on the full TWEEDY album, but I'm adding "The Wolf is On The Hill"

In a fantastically Luddite-esque move, Beck released an “album” in late 2012 consisting entirely of sheet music. Song Reader was issued by McSweeney’s, and its songs have since been performed a couple of times in blown-out live versions. In a strange twist on the idea of a tribute album, the songs have gotten the studio treatment by various artists, including Tweedy (Jeff and son), Jack Black, Jack White, Jarvis Cocker, and others—including Beck himself. Song Reader, the version you can actually hear, will be released on July 29 via a Capitol Records collaboration with discount eyeglass purveyor Warby Parker. The release will also be timed with a pair of eyeglass frames designed in collaboration with Beck, who totally dabbles in that sort of thing, obviously. The complete track listing for Song Reader is below.

    1.  Moses Sumney – “Title Of This Song”

    2.  Fun – “Please Leave A Light On When You Go”

    3.  Tweedy – “The Wolf Is On The Hill”

    4.  Norah Jones – “Just Noise”

    5.  Lord Huron – “Last Night You Were A Dream”

    6.  Bob Forrest – “Saint Dude”

    7.   Jack White – “I’m Down”

    8.   Beck – “Heaven’s Ladder”

    9.  Juanes – “Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard”

    10.  Laura Marling - “Sorry”

    11.  Jarvis Cocker - “Eyes That Say ‘I Love You’”

    12.  David Johansen – “Rough On Rats”

    13.  Jason Isbell – “Now That Your Dollar Bills Have Sprouted Wings”

    14.  Marc Ribot – “The Last Polka”

    15.  Eleanor Friedberger – “Old Shanghai”

    16.  Sparks – “Why Did You Make Me Care?”

    17.  Swamp Dogg – “America, Here’s My Boy”

    18.  Jack Black – “We All Wear Cloaks”

    19.  Loudon Wainwright III – “Do We? We Do”

    20.  Gabriel Kahane & yMusic – “Mutilation Rag”
  15. Adding "Summer Noon" from the "Boyhood" Soundtrack

Jeff Tweedy is spending some time away from Wilco this year, teaming up with his son Spencer to release an album as Tweedy. Soon, the elder Tweedy will also roll out a new song via the soundtrack to Richard Linklater's new film Boyhood.

The soundtrack is out on July 8 through Nonesuch Records. The 16-song record begins with "Summer Noon," a song that Tweedy has previously debuted in concert. At the bottom of this page, hear a live rendition of that song from Mountain Jam festival earlier this month in Hunter Mountain, NY.

Film Music Reporter credits the song to Jeff Tweedy, rather than the band name Tweedy, so it's possible that this isn't part of the upcoming album Sukierae (due out on September 16 through dBpm Records).

See the full Boyhood tracklist below. It includes some well-known and previously released songs by the likes of Coldplay, Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, the Hives, the Flaming Lips, Cat Power, Wilco, Yo La Tengo, Paul McCartney & Wings, Bob Dylan, the Black Keys, Gnarles Barkley and more.

  16. You dragging your kids to this? Should be fun. I hear Justin Roberts is really good (and has Gerald Dowd as his drummer.)

    LouieB

I saw him a few years back. He does put on a good show!

Updated list of upcoming shows (proof that the next Wilco album will never come out):

Yikes. Yeah, how would they get everyone in the same place to work on a new album? Unless the bulk of the recording is already done.
