  1. It was miserably hot, but you nailed the feeling of what it was like to be there.  The fact they ended exactly at 10:00 was quite impressive. Thought for sure Spiders would close things out but they clearly wanted to give us as much as they could.  Speaking of which, during that post-encore getting Jeff's guitar situated time, I really thought it sounded like they were starting Bull Black Nova for a few seconds.

after the first listen, it seems just ok.  I guess I wanted more.  The remix of the music isn't much.  It is pretty close to the original.  I guess the only thing that is different is the vocals, which is not Jeff (I believe Barry Jenkins).  Way too deep and misses the vulnerability that Jeff expressed on YHF.

But I def applaud the effort.

Wait is this not just everything slowed down with the occasional DJ effect thrown in?  Admittedly, I've only listened once but it sounded like EVERY vocal nuance from the original was there and I can't imagine anyone nailing it like that.

  3. Scored second row pit seats for Richmond. Excited that this one is indoors after seeing them outdoors in November. I'm a sucker for a climate controlled environment, especially in a Virginia August. Very excited for this show!

  4. Charlottesville will probably be sub-freezing by the time the show ends. Can anyone remind me if they've played in such conditions before? I really feel bad for them honestly.

Really wish there was a comparable indoor venue they could've used but to my knowledge it would either be too massive (JPJ) or too small (Paramount/Jefferson).

  5. Such an injustice that the Roanoke show didn't get the Roadcase treatment. Flawless show from start to finish and probably the best I've ever seen them in around 10 shows. Oh well, I guess they don't consider the small market shows very often no matter how great it is.

  6. I totally thought the Saxaphaw show would be reserved with a name like the "Haw River Ballroom", but nope, just an open floor and general admission.  Made getting tickets a little less stressful but I'm not necessarily looking forward to a GA show for him, mainly because I can't get there but so early.

  7. It was posted on FB that Kung Fu says the Solid Sound Roadcase recordings of both Fri and Sat will be released this Friday. Hope that's not #fakenews.

Having never been able to go I always look forward to these. Probably more so this year than ever before. I went back and looked and the last SS recordings went up on July 6th 2015 so that seems to be within reason.

  8. The board looks pretty slow at the moment but I figured I'd ask for any last minute Roadcase recommendations between the Chicago, LA, and Seattle bundles.  Really bummed they just have 2 of the Chicago shows up right now but hey whatever.  Does anyone who has heard all of these prefer any over the other?  I know they are all going to be great no matter what.

  9. With Pearl Jam being my all-time #1, I would die for any form of stage sharing.  Just having Ed pop in for California Stars would be incredible.  I've never heard either band comment on the other, but they seem to share a lot of views and politics and as far as I'm concerned they are the two premier American bands working today.

  10. I hope I'm not stepping on your toes by sharing my thoughts first, but I just got home and have to rave about what I just witnessed.  This was my seventh time seeing them and I never thought I'd get to see them in Roanoke (45 minutes from where I live).  I was worried that the crowd would act up but Roanoke BROUGHT IT!  No noticeable shout-outs or anything that warranted a Jeff rant.  It was so good.  Easily the best show I've seen of theirs as they are truly on top of their game.  I snagged a setlist from Stan so here it is:

They went on right after 8:30 and played straight to curfew at 11:00.  I couldn't believe we got 8 "hootenanny" songs.  Again, an amazing show and I know everyone says this about the show they go to, but for real guys... ROAD CASE!!!!!

  11. Keep 'em!

My wife and I have thousands of CDS in shelves along the walls in our bedroom and I wouldn't want it any other way.  I'm too lazy to rip them all anyway (I'll download torrents of things I already own out of convenience for my iPods).  A couple of more reasons: 1) I want my kids (7 & 3) to have a physical connection to music.  They each got a CD for Christmas and will get another for Valentine's as well.  It's really fun to play the "go pick a CD and we'll see what you think of it" game. 2) Like someone said earlier, it's not like you can get anything for them anyway.  Sure donating them to someone who wants physical media is a nice gesture, but I couldn't fathom getting rid of my CDs for next to nothing.

Me and my wife are both former record store managers though, so I'm going to be biased.  :thumbup

  12. i wouldnt be surprised if a lot of yhf alternate cuts and stuff was held back with an eventual anniversary reissue in mind

since you could easily devote an entire disc just to yhf material its almost wasted on a compilation like amf

    This 100%

If ever there was an album that deserved the "ultimate/anniversary/complete" edition treatment it's YHF.  The only question is when, not if.

  13. Pearl Jam is the antithesis of nostalgia rock.  Sure, they'll play some predictable songs but they have been playing between 30-35 songs for their non-festival shows so that's bound to happen,  They always have a treat or two in store for the diehards and the No Code show in Moline proves that they don't care about just playing the hits when playing a town for the first time in their career.  I'm still in shock that they did that.  Friday was my birthday and No Code is my all-time favorite album (from anyone) so even though I was many miles away I took it as their gift to me... lol

Oh and they also played their 2006 S/T album (the "avocado" album) in its entirety in Torino, Italy that year unannounced (of course).

  14. I wonder what we should expect from these later shows.  I would love to go to Raleigh but have to work until 5 and it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive.  If it's "an evening with" where they will be playing close to 3 hours then I may just have to make that happen assuming the start time isn't too early.  Will we get A.M. in its entirety possibly?

  15. Timely topic. Just today I finished Perfect Circle-The Story of R.E.M. Updated in 2013. A great read and a fun summer project for me as I listened along to each album as I read about it them. A band my wife and I were into from Murmur on, my favorite band for many years, so I really enjoyed this one.

Others, the Keith Richards book, and Gregg Allman one as well. I've been meaning to read the recent Duane Allman bio authored by his daughter, but haven't gotten to that yet.

I've had Perfect Circle on my Amazon wishlist forever and now it looks like they've pulled the Kindle version (?), so I guess I'll have to spring for the paperback one day.

Also, I'm sure this is not cool to mention around these parts, but "The Dirt" by Motley Crue is insane and a great read.
