  1. I will agree there. The lyrics are unfortunately obscured by all the other crappiness going on in the song, vocal and otherwise. I'm now going to have to go back and listen to it again to try and remember why I hated it so much!

I've always thought this was one of the albums strongest songs. Love the groove. Go figure.

  2. These look great. Thanks for spending the time doing this and sharing. I only have one problem; I only use the album art for itunes, and your particular artwork does not really work. I graped the first nights artwork from you in this thread http://forums.viachicago.org/index.php?sho...=34240&st=0 and was just wondering if the other nights could get a similar treatment. Do not trouble yourself at all just to please me, if it is a trouble I will just adjust the artwork you have already made. Thank you for everything you have already done.

An option I often use for artwork in iTunes is using the poster from the show (often found on wilcobase) as artwork. iTunes will accept odd shapes for the artwork and I find it works well and is often the easiest and best looking solution (no insult to those who spend time making artwork as these guys obviously spend a lot of time and effort putting something out there).

  3. I'll be there. I'm bringing my dad. I've been trying to get him into Wilco for years and we've missed a few opportunities here and there to see them together so I'm really excited. It's been almost a year since I saw Tweedy solo in Dallas so I'm in need of a fix.

  4. Thanks, I guess I will run over there and talk to someone face to face. I just got some member services girl on the phone and she didn't seem to helpful. She did say that they did not have any contact information for the company and they usually do come in with the charge.

The guy was having trouble with the scanner and was complaining to the facility as I was standing there. I don't know why he would have run my card twice though.

Face to face is always better. Take your copy of the receipt, explain your situation, stay calm but be very firm. Most financial institutions would rather write-off a loss than lose your business. Especially if we're talking about a small sum, $20-$50. They should have some way to contact the poster seller through the card processing service. If some company can just randomly ask for payment without leaving any trace of who, what, or where they are, I'd like to start such a company :ninja

  5. good luck. i doubt getting your money back on this one will be easy.

did anyone happen to witness the showdown at the merch booth after the tuesday night show at the riv? this dude and the merch lady were getting into because he was claiming she shorted him like $40 in change, which judging from her "kind" attitude i'm pretty sure she did. but nonetheless, he asked to speak to her supervisor, and she informed him she was the supervisor and he said something along the lines of...

"so what do i have to do to get my money back then? call wilco?"

and yeah, he was being serious.

Sounds a lot like a Seinfeld episode I remember from back in the day. It didn't turn out well for George then either.

Seriously though, your bank should be backing you up on this thing. From the sound of things, you were using a debit card and not a credit card. If it was a credit card, I would expect them to really be backing you up as most credit cards will usually side with you when you make a claim of fraud or mistake. Bank debit cards can be less protective, but they really should be siding with you. Especially if by double billed you mean they charged you the exact same amount twice. I would go into your bank and ask to speak with the manager. Tell him you expect his company to take care of problems like this as it is obvious that a mistake was made. They paid the money out, they have a connection to the poster people. They can ask for it back, and ask to see a receipt for two charges (you only signed one, right?) You should not have to track them down. If he refuses, take your banking business elsewhere as there are plenty of banks out there.

  6. I'm really happy for the guys. I think they're way past needing to win awards, but who doesn't like to be recognized. I like the Springsteen album and wouldn't mind seeing him win, but let's face it, Springsteen has enough Grammy's. At least it would be respectable to lose to him and maybe even the Foo Fighters (though as most people here agree, their new album is crap, at least they have some decent stuff from their past). But these other two nominees are a joke and it would break my heart to see real artists like Wilco lose to these sorry excuses for musicians.

  7. We didn't do this Senior Quote thing at my high school. Kinda wish we had. On the other hand, we did choose a class song which ended up being the theme song from "Friends." Don't blame me, I voted for something by Hendrix, though I can't recall what anymore...

  8. i authored it and would be happy to send it via old school b&p. Glad to see it's still in demand :yes

    send me a pm.

    dave

Just thought I should mention that I still listen to it on a regular basis. I've found it to be one of the better comps out there. Very thorough. I'd be glad to sendspace it as I only have AAC (MP4) files of it should anyone want it and not mind a lossy copy.

  9. i got to the site, and have the download circle up, but see no option for downloading the ep.

i see the same as when i downloaded The Thanks...

I'm not an expert, but if that's the case, I wonder if somehow something is cached within quicktime. Not sure but that may be why you are still seeing the stuff from The Thanks I Get. Try clearing out your cache in IE and within quicktime if possible. Just a guess.

  10. I can't tell if you're saying the cover is bent, or the record itself. Of course, both do occur, especially in the tight plastic wrapped gatefold records usually sold in the US. Sadly, I've bought many new records only to find the edge of the vinyl itself bent due to pressure from the plastic wrapping. Sometimes I return them to the store, other times no.

My brand new SBS vinyl purchased as a preorder from Music Today had a bent cover (one corner, approx. 2 inches in size). I contacted Music Today and they sent me out a new one and paid to ship the damaged one back, so if you have a problem with vinyl purchased direct, by all means try them.

  11. Wilco certainly won't be remembered for being an experimental band. I think anyone who believes that is diluting themselves.

First, I really hope no one here dilutes themselves. That could get messy.

Next, I'm not sure the music itself is terribly experimental, although I think the process they used to write and record YHF really was. What I think Wilco will be remembered for is embracing the internet and new way to view music. The way they released YHF (and all subsequent albums) on the internet before releasing them in stores certainly was experimental. They were one of the first bands to recognize the change in the way the world views music and distribution of music, and they did something original at the perfect time. They probably weren't the first band to do so, but they have certainly made an impact.

  12. I really like the album, but I must admit I saw the "lead singer guy" Scott McCaughey open for Tweedy on his last solo tour (in Dallas) and he was pretty bad. He's the kind of guy who needs to play in a band, not solo. He played a lot of songs alone with an electric guitar. It wreaked a little too much of "college roommate got a new electric guitar and spent all night playing it in the living room" for me. Most of the audience seemed to agree.

But I really do like that album. I don't know if I'd really be interested in any other Minus 5 stuff or not, but down with Wilco is worth owning. And, as mentioned above, it is likely to get stuck in your car's CD player for days, if not weeks.

  13. Hey everyone,

I've been searching for this guy for a while now. I had my eye on it on one site but it said they didn't have it in stock yet. Then I check today and they say they're sold out. Can't find it on eBay. I found a couple places that were selling it but they're all out of stock too. Anyone know where it can be purchased. I'm stateside but I don't mind paying shipping from the UK or whatever.

    Thanks in advance
