  1. Well, it's complicated, because, even with teams being not that far back a lot of things have to happen to go past a bunch of teams. Keep in mind that a lot of these teams play each other frequently--someone's got to win those games. When all those teams out west play each other you can't make up ground on all of them.

  2. No, that doesn't seem unlikely. It's there for the taking.

87 wins took it last year? Probably will only be 85 or so this year because of the massive butt-whooping the NL got in interleague. 76 games left...47-29? I guess it's possible.

  3. If that link doesn't end up working, the MLB audio thingy is very reasonable at $15/season. You can listen to whatever radio broadcast you want on there. Even in the home market or whatever.

I enjoy listening to Hawk call games. That doesn't mean he's good, necessarily. I've heard him on the TV since I was 11 or so. As for objectivity, he frequently says (first person, yes) "We got away with one right there," when a call goes the White Sox way. I enjoy the way he falls silent after calling the other team's go-ahead homerun in a key game. He's obviously distraught and there's great pathos in that.

That said, he's not a great guy and was a terrible GM. He fired Tony Larussa and ran off the better part of the broadcasting team, Tom Paciorek. His first few years broadcasting with current partner, Darrin Jackson, featured frequent fights and was likened to an episode of the Honeymooners, in that there was an uncomfortable undercurrent of domestic violence (Straight to the moon, DJ! Well, not exactly like that).

  4. It's the White Sox who looked like the softball team the Red Sox were last year, this series. Sorry for that sentence. Anyway, for some reason their pitching hasn't been as good as last year (traded an inconsistent, often hurt pitcher for an inconsistent, never hurt pitcher), and their defense hasn't been as good (by right it should be as good. Anderson is an upgrade defensively over Rowand, but I don't know how the platoon of Anderson and Mackowiak is compared to Rowand). Hitting is much better. Bunting has been real bad, as it was today...baserunning was bad, too. Anyway, I'm sure the White Sox' bats will get them far in the regular season, but if the maxim that great pitching beats great hitting holds true in the playoffs, they really need to get their shit together.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox bullpen looks much improved and their starters look better.

  5. Unofficially it's about 2 days old.

There is also a story out of Boston that, contrary to other reports, Manny is staying in the All Star game because he wants to play for Ozzie and it was just that Tito wanted him to sit out. So what's the deal, man.

  6. Isn't that your predicition for every series? :lol

Well, they've won 9 straight series and swept only two of those, so I'd say it's a pretty good prediction.

With that said, the White Sox might struggle tonight against Lester. They often have a hard time against rookies they haven't seen before.
