Pardon my ignorance, but why not a straight soundboard of the show? Why the crowd noise?

Anybody else ever feel like strangling Dan Bejar? On each new NP album, I know there will be at least three songs that I will automatically skip...

The only thing that stands out, to me, is how much the lyrics generally suck...

After a few more listens, I'm starting to come around. Keep the Car Running and Windowstill are pretty solid.

I second the Springsteen meets Talking Heads analysis.

I just don't get the same sense of exuberance that infused Funeral.

There are lossless and 320kbps versions on Oink now...

And as much as I love Tweedy, I can't stomach his harmonica, long drawn out version of Sunken Treasure, which on Being There is beautiful, haunting, and one of my all time favorites.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Have you heard the version from the 10/19/01 show in Boston? That's the definitive recording for me...

I only have 'Songs of Pain' and just can't get past the poor sound quality (this coming from a lover of early Mountain Goats). Are all of his albums as, ahem, "low-fi"?
