Take the rings off your fingers
as if they were tears
and find a new kind of beauty
to put a silver lining on your golden years
All your clever talk and your glamour
bright lies you don't hear anymore
You've gone so far out
all you want is the tide to take you back to the shore
Take courage
Take courage said the sign
You used to wait for it every morning
Now you are looking so dumb
and they don't see you standing there
Trying to figure out why all your promises
left you hanging in mid-air
And you lost your war of words,
Oh but your heart was strong.
You said, "the dirt can have my pretty things,
but to the earth my heart does not belong
If we can walk without our crutches
would we have anything to offer them
If we can walk without our crutches
would they have anything to see
Take the rings off your fingers
as if they were tears
All the diamonds are hollow
and ring painfully in our ears
They'd love to tell you
but don't let them get carried away
As if you need another lesson in humility
Take courage
Take courage said the sign
You used to wait for it every morning
Every morning
Every morning
But now you know that it was just a warning.

I think its just a very poor record, true I'm not the biggest fan and have always preferred the Nebraska/Tom Joad side of his material but I enjoyed a lot of The Rising and this just sounds awful. Having just been trawling through the excellent 11 (!) disc Love,Tears & Mystery tour comp of the Devils & Dust tour and you just realise how great Bruce can (& could) be.
Production ain't so hot either.
I hear there is a Tracks Vol 2 in the pipeline so hopefully that might be somewhat better!

Hello and welcome!
There's a couple of us Brits around here! Which UK shows are you going to? My ticket has arrived for the Brixton date - really looking forward to that.
Hello, another Brit here, been a fan since I saw Uncle Tupelo at the old Mean Fiddler in London back in 1992,anyone else here at that show?
Looking forward to the Brixton show too, great place to see gigs, missed the Shepards Bush Empire shows but that great sbd matrix of the recent Portland show doing the rounds has really wet my whistle!

Loved A Pagan Place and This Is The Sea when I bought them after seeing the Waterboys open for U2 at Radio City Music Hall (1984? 85?), and when Fisherman's Blues came out, it seemed such a departure from the previous albums... so folky! it grew on me fast, and it's now the definitive Waterboys' album for me, but A Pagan Place and This Is the Sea will always hold a special place... more of a U2-ish sound as mentioned, but hinting at what was to come. "The Whole of the Moon" (on This Is the Sea) is exquisite.
Go get "The Live Adventures Of The Waterboys", a 2 cd comp of live tracks from 1986 and you'll see that back then they were the greatest live band of that era! There have been a ton of excellent live shows up on Dime recently too.
The new record is absolutely terrible though.

sorry dude. just the sky + box.
I know the Fogerty set is up on Dime, was great, I was there!
-
Have you heard Apostle of Hustle - National Anthem of Nowhere? Underrated album this year.
I was really looking forward to that but was pretty disappointed, nothing really grabbed me, maybe I need to give it another listen though!
-
The mps sounds great, am v excited for the album now! Been kind of disappointed with most of the recent BSS members solo albums (bar Feist naturally) but this is sounding good!

can listen to 30 second clips of the record there
the studio version of Goodnight Rose sounds just stunning... the whole thing sounds pretty damn awesome too... this could be amazing...
It's finally leaked,got a copy on Soulseek,sounds okay,nothing mindblowing though.

Am I the only one that, when listening to Chickamauga, at like 2:59, right before the song starts "rocking" again, wishes there was like, two kick drum or snare hits right before it stars rocking again? It always bugs the hell out of me.
God, I wish I could listen to the UT back catalogue for the first time again, you are so lucky that you have that to look forward to, go do it....NOW!

speaking of adding extras on, i picked up the first melbourne show tickets in person at the venue with cash and they cost 82.50
for the 2nd show, i booked them over the phone by credit card and they cost $90.... looks like ticket retailers are adding 10%
It's working out at about

Well, then that's your choice. They offer the music to you free, but if you want it to be CD-quality, you have to pay for it. Seems fair enough to me. They could just not offer the bonus tracks at all.
And hence why I won't be buying the new one when it initially comes out!!
-
Yeah, as far as I know, anyone who bought YHF and AGIB got access to the bonus tracks online free of charge.
They offered you those as mp3 downloads as an an alternative to rebuying the cds but I'm sure there are enough completists amongst us who wanted the proper 2CD version with lossless versions.
-
I wasn't aware they offered actual discs for those extra tracks. I thought it was just through the internet by inserting the original CD. Are you in the States?
I think they were Australian 2CD versions but they were plentiful here in the UK!
-
I'm gonna hold off buying the album for a while his time, I'm sick of them rereleasing the album with bonus disc/extra tracks etc 6 months down the line, I had to rebuy the last two albums and not gonna fall for it again. mp3 downloads aren't the same as having the actual bonus disc IMHO!
-
I had a copy a lot earlier than that which someone sent me, I think it was the ever so slightly different version though.
-
So now the new Arcade Fire has properly leaked, what do people think?
It was always gonna be be a bit of a letdown but it seems a bit weighed down in it's own melodrama and as such lacks the wonderful exhuberance of Funeral.
It's getting better with repeated listens & I'm thinking certain songs would definately come to life when seen live but still a bit of a disappointment IMHO.
-
most cd players have a stop button
I had that pre release version without Late Greats, don't remember it being any different to the released version, in fact I probably threw the cdr away once the album came out. It's possible there may have been some very minor differences here & there but I definately didn't notice them!
-
By most accounts Eitzel was the highlight of that show playing "Last Harbour", are they planning to broadcast any of that show on KALW?

So I was just listening to the great sbd of Wilco at Howlin Wolf in New Orleans in LA from 28/04/00, it's up on Dime at moment btw, and was blown away by the rockin live version of Too Far Apart.
It seems they havn't played it much since mid nineties apart from a handful of times in 2000 but could really see the current lineup playing a wonderful version, some great guitar work on there for Nels to get his teeth into!
I see now that Jeff did play it solo last year so fingers crossed!

I think her vocals really improve the record, they contrast Wills perfectly, I hated the female vocals on Master & Everyone since they flattened Will's sound whereas these somehow enhance them.

Had the DVD for ages but havn't got round to watching it,just popped it in.
Starts with Joey doing a solo All systems red in his kitchen in March 2005, then them writing/rehearsing Bisbee Blue in studio, then a feature on Paul Niehaus the pedal steel guy followed by a bit with John Convertino in studio banging away on his drums.
You then get Joey back in his kitchen doing All Systems red this time in June, the DVD ends with the band playing the song live in December 2005 so you kind of get a sense of how the song progressed over the year.
In between you get little features on the other guys in band and a bit with Joey & John discussing Garden Ruin.
So nothing amazing though the band version of ASR is pretty rocking but the whole package is pretty nice so worth getting if you can find it, I'm always a sucker for these double disc/extra DVD thing even though I hardly ever watch em!
n.b just had a look at the City Slang E card thing and thats pretty much the same footage as DVD though missing a couple of things but nothing major.

Definately worth seeing once if you've never seen them before. I was pretty obsessed with them for a while when Alligator first came out and saw about 6 shows in a year but now I've become a bit bored with them recently and have missed their last couple of shows,I wasn't completely bowled over by Boxer either.
Having said that they usually put on a good show and the lead singer can be pretty fun to watch so I'd say go and give it a go!
