marino13
Going to visit some friends in Chicago this weekend. They live in a neighborhood near the Double Door. Does anyone know of a good record store somewhat close to there? Thanks.
Dr. Steve Brule
Depends on what you are looking for. There is of course Reckless Records right around the corner from Double Door on Milwaukee. Dusty Groove has more interesting specialty stuff though, and isn't that far away.: http://www.dustygroove.com/visitus.htm I must of course "pimp out" the store I work at (and am posting this from now) which is a short ride on the Damen or Western bus from there. The Newcity guide to Chicago record stores has this to say: Laurie's Planet of Sound4639 N. Lincoln, (773)271-3569Arguably the best rock record store in the city, John Laurie's Lincoln Square spot, for the past ten years, has focused on indie- and alt-rock, offering both the more popular new releases (See: Beck's "The Information") and the more elusive (see: Nina Nastasia's "On Leaving") in the same breath. With probably the most helpful and non-judgmental staff in all of Chicago, Laurie's delivers even the most cerebral of indie-rock without the slightest bit of pretension. See the staff "picks" on the store's Web site at lauriesplanetofsound.com. The whole guide to Chicago record stores can be found here.

If not this time, I'll be back for MMJ and The Black Keys on back to back nights Thanksgiving weekend. Hopefully I'll make it on one of the trips.
