embiggen
link NEW YORK (AP) -- "The Times They Are A-Changin' " -- and not for the better. The Twyla Tharp musical that uses songs by pop superstar Bob Dylan will close November 19 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre, after a brief run. The show, which opened October 26 to largely negative reviews, will have played 28 performances and 35 previews. Tharp conceived, directed and choreographed the musical, which concerns a young man, played by Michael Arden; his tyrannical father, portrayed by Thom Sesma; and a beautiful circus performer, played by Lisa Brescia. Brescia was the show's third leading lady. When the musical tried out in San Diego last February at the Old Globe Theatre, the role of Cleo was played by Jenn Colella. She was replaced during early New York previews by Caren Lyn Manuel. Among the Dylan hits in "The Times They Are A-Changin' " -- besides the title song -- are "Blowin' in the Wind," "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Lay Lady Lay" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." Sir Stewart
Maybe now Tharp can focus on her space station-themed musical based on the music of Captain Beefheart.
