Dr. Steve Brule Posted February 24, 2008 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Mark MytrowitzAthens - Former Athens resident Mark "Microwave" Mytrowitz, 52, diedFriday, February 15, 2008. Born in Kearny, NJ and raised in Melbourne, FL, he was the son of thelate Alexander Mytrowitz and Ruth Edna Decker. Known affectionately to his friends and family as Microwave, heenjoyed a successful, life-long career in the music industry. An avidsurfer in his youth, he embarked on his career path by owning andoperating his own lighting system. From his early 20's on, he workedas a guitar technician for a number of national acts including Kansas,the Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, the Producers, Mother's Finest, Echo andthe Bunnymen, Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam. During the pinnacle of hiscareer he traveled the globe as guitar tech and equipment manager forR.E.M. A musician in his own right, Micro will best be remembered byhis passion for music and the sense of pride and accomplishment hederived from over 30 years in his chosen profession. His unwaveringsense of humor and gentle nature will be deeply missed by all who knewand loved him. Microwave is survived by his brother Brad Mytrowitz of Strongsville,Ohio. He was preceded in death by brothers Lex and Jack. A memorial is to be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers and cards, family and friends request thatdonations may be made in memory of Microwave to the Athens Area HumaneSociety, 399 Beaverdam Road Ext., Athens, GA 30605.
