Rock Hall will open annex in New York

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open an annex in New York City in November with plans of giving visitors there a taste of what they can enjoy in greater abundance in Cleveland.

The non-profit Rock Hall announced plans Wednesday to open the annex in partnership with the for-profit Running Subway, a production company that has made a name for itself presenting Broadway shows such as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Peter Pan," and "Bodies: The Exhibition," an exhibit about the human body.

Running Subway will foot the bill to renovate a street-level museum space in a building at 76 Mercer Street in SoHo, in downtown Manhattan. The plan, the price of which was not disclosed, is to extend the museum's brand. Officials hope to increase attendance in Cleveland and funnel money back into the education programs, said Rock Hall CEO Terry Stewart.

"The goal is to draw attention back to Cleveland and bring [visitors] back here," Stewart said.
