lizish
I was traveling last week and so missed $100 at the APK (an old house without stage, perfect to see an act). But here are Ian and Simone on the local radio show 'For the Folk'. The host is Alison Brown, my concert and drinking friend, who is no musical slouch herself.. http://chrwradio.com/podcasts/94-9CHRWWed2030.mp3 I helped arrange the interview and liked the tales of the 'Rolling Sickness Review', handball, the 14th floor of Princess Margaret Hospital and George Jones. Simone especially sounds like she's led a very tough life of poverty, institutions and health problems. I guess it confirms what we're hearing on the record - Forest of Tears. Gotta worry that's she's gonna be a crash and burn musical act, another Handsome Ned. If pressed, I would put Forest of Tears in my top 10 of the decade. LISTEN TO THIS BAND! Tuesday, Jon Rae Fletcher came by the APK. Slow to embrace his album, but right now, his deep baritone is hitting the exact right spot. We chatted about Weewerk records, both sort of knowing Steve McLean, $100 and living in Victoria. If the rest of you Canucks get a chance, see the guy. Wednesday was AC Newman. Whew! He had John Wux-something, the Superdrag drummer and Nicole Atkins in the band. There were horns, there were strings, I drank too much, my sister drank too much and we were both casting housewife-cougar eyes on the drummer.
