cambot
I know this is an 'after the show' forum, but why not start the discussion already? I've only lived in Calgary for a year and I'm excited to see Wilco at what I've heard is one of the best venues in the province. I've seen them many times in my hometown (suburb, technically) of Chicago, IL and also when I lived in Texas. Who's been to the 'Jube and what do you think of the auditorium? I'll be back here after the show to give my impressions of what I know will be a great show.
sherpahigh
The Jubilee is such an incredible venue to see these guys, can't wait for it again tonight!
blindgonzo
It's a really nice venue and I remember the last time they played there I was really impressed with the sound. Have a great time!
cambot
Wilco sounded awesome last night. The jube lived up to its reputation, sound wise - and the band looked like they were having fun. Jeff commented on how Edmonton's Jubilee was exactly the same as Calgary's, which I did not know, having only lived in Canada for a year. I didn't keep a tally of which songs they played, so I don't have a set list. They opened with 'Wilco (the song') and also played a great version of "Broken Arrow." Tweedy mentioned they got to play it right in fron of Neil Young the other day. "Right in his face," he joked. I also dug their stage lighting - all around it was pretty great. One thing about the Jubilee I'm not used to is how huge and nice the lobby areas are. I'm not used to seeing people in starched shirts and bow ties selling wine at a rock show. Plus we had our own nice little seats - which everyone kept thier butts planted in until the final few numbers. Jeff did say it was nice to see everyone standing near the end. I never once felt crushed up against another person - definitely not what I'm used to, coming from Chicago and always seeing bands in cramped little venues. Sweating it out at the Metro or any of the other places in Chicago feels more like a 'concert' to me, but this was a nice change of pace, I guess, especially in the middle of the work week. Also, a lot of people seemed to have been 'invitees' and not so much 'fans' which was also a huge change from seeing them in Chicago. I'm just happy they came up here, though. Everyone was pretty respectful. All except for the chatty girl and dude in front of me who were't even paying attention to the music. Luckily they left after a few songs. Not sure why they came to begin with. Again, great show. But if anyone gets the chance to see them in Chicago or anywhere in the midwest, do so and you'll really feel what its like to be part of the show and in total communion with the band. I miss that. It does happen like that up here at different venues. The Jube is a fantastic venue, no doubt, but depending on the band there, you get a lot of seated shows. I've seen concerts there where the crowd stood for the entire show, I seem to recall standing for the last wilco show there actually, but I could be wrong. Aside from the seated aspect of the show last night, I thought it was great. Loved California Stars, Poor Places and Radio Cure. Bull Black Nova was great as was You are My Face and Impossible Germany. Great show all around.
cambot
Yeah, it was great to hear California Stars. Poor Places, too. Am I wrong, or did they not play anything earlier than Summerteeth?
