choo-choo-charlie
FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College Theatre's spring production "Mermaid Avenue" will be performed April 15-17 and 22-24. The play will be staged in Hood's Avalon Performing Arts Studio in the Tatem Arts Center Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. and at 8 p.m. on all other performance dates. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the door beginning 30 minutes before each show. Admission is $10, students and Hood faculty and staff tickets are $5 and Hood students are free. "Mermaid Avenue" is an original theater piece created by Joe Brady, director of Hood College Theatre, and the student ensemble. The play is based on the 1998 album of previously unheard lyrics written by American folk singer Woody Guthrie, put to music written and performed by British singer Billy Bragg and the American band Wilco. Full article here. For $10, I'm curious enough to go check this out...not too far for me. Any thoughts as to a plot/storyline that could be shaped out of the album? Guest Ordinary Beehive
I'd see if for $10 for sure. Sounds like a cool idea. Worth seeing how they adapted the album into a play, despite if it's good, I would think.
Little Louis
.....interesting. I would assume its musical theatre, but this seems so abstract that you probably can't even bet on that
choo-choo-charlie
I hope that it's musical theatre. I'd love to hear the songs woven into the production.
Little Louis
did you end up going?
choo-choo-charlie
did you end up going? Unfortunately, no. I had a surprise guest from out of town show up that evening and plans changed. I wonder if it will ever pop up again somewhere else...

Little Louis
http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/art_life/display_ent.htm?storyID=103740 "I'm a fan of Woody Guthrie, I'm a fan of Billy Bragg" well, sir, you're missing an important one there. Seems a little far-fetched in my opinion.
