sgtpepper64
So, when I have a question I have no idea how to answer, I turn to the collective brainpower of the VC community. So here I am, hoping you folks can help. I'm looking for a new bank. I was with Chase and couldn't stand it. Joined my local credit union and wasn't happy as well. So, I was wondering, does anyone have any suggestions of a bank that doesn't suck the blood of the innocent and hasn't taken advantage of people for the last thousand years? I'd really prefer to not give my business to those who are responsible for so much of the financial vomit in this country. So any suggestions? Also would prefer bankers who do nothing contained in the lyrics of "Jolly Banker" especially rape me and scalp me.
Guest Speed Racer
If you weren't happy with a credit union, then I don't know what to tell you. Try a different local credit union? When you say you want a bank that doesn't suck the blood of innocents, what exactly are you looking for in an establishment?
cryptique
If you weren't happy with a credit union, then I don't know what to tell you. Try a different local credit union? This. Credit unions rule. If you're not happy at your credit union, find another credit union.
Guest Speed Racer
And I don't know why anyone would feel bound to some sort of allegiance to a bank. If they don't care about you, don't care about them. You're a customer, not bound to them. I keep a checking account at a local branch of a national bank, for convenience of ATMs and the ability to write the three or four paper checks I need to a year. I just switched institutions after about six years with my current one, in part because of the promotional interest rate for a savings account at the bank I switched to. I also have online checking/savings with ING (free-est, easiest online bill pay out there), because their checking and savings have decent interest rates. I use this to pay bills; the savings account is where I put my annual/semi-annual bill payment money each month - car insurance, internet, renter's insurance - because it has the higher interest rate; I use the checking account to pay the bills. I keep a long-term savings account with another internet banking institution, first because the interest rate is better than ING's, and also because it takes about 4 days for to transfer money between institutions, so it's a good way to keep my hands out of it. Check out bankrate.com, and shop around for interest rates for CDs, savings and checking accounts. There's no reason why your money shouldn't make money. If you want something completely free of greed and profit, well, you have a mattress don't you?
Winston Legthigh
I just joined Ally. They reimburse all ATM fees, and checking accounts earn 1% interest.
