SarahC
I went to Athens this weekend to see the Old 97's. I had never seen the band in Athens, so I didn't know what to expect. Turns out the band doesn't have a lot of friends in the city, and the show had kind of a low turn out. This was my 21st 97's show, and they didn't disappoint. My mom and I got to town early enough to eat before the show, and Rhett actually walked by when we were in the diner and came in for a bit. It was a really funny coincidence. He said I could come to sound check, and I ended up being the only non-crew person there, so I got sort of a private 5 song mini-set. Murry and Mike Dalke and Jason Garner (tour manager and tech) did a Minor Threat SongRhett did a cover song I didn't know. I need to figure out what it was.The full band did "Dance Class", "Please Hold On While The Train is Moving" and "Visiting Hours". Definitely something I can cross off my bucket list. It was a really awesome night. The show itself was really fun, Rhett did a solo acoustic thing before the 97's came out. He played:The ElSigular GirlCA Stars (cover... I really love his version. We talked a bit about the Tweedy/Guthrie version, and how awesome it really is)Like LoveNineteenOur Love The 97's full set was:DoreenBrown Haired DaughterDance ClassJaggedWest TX TeardropsNo Simple MachineHouse That Used To BeVictoriaWhite PortPlease Hold On While The Train Is MovingWish The WorstIndefinitelyChampaign, ILPerfumeSmokersI’m A TrainwreckBig Brown EyesWon’t Be Home4 Leaf CloverValentineStonedEvery Night Is Friday NightTimebomb
