From a few years ago ...

You can't insult a Scouser - or their home town - and get away with it.

A foliage statue of the 67-year-old Beatle unveiled just a fortnight ago has been beheaded, though John, Paul and George were left alone.

It comes after Starr outraged parts of Liverpool in January when, days after opening the city's European Capital of Culture celebrations, he said he missed nothing about the city.

The vandal struck nearly three months after Starr's appearance on BBC1's Jonathan Ross show.

Asked by Ross what he missed most about the city the drummer laughed, pulled a face, and eventually said apart from friends and family he missed "nothing".

Starr also admitted that he hardly ever returns there.
