Wilco 18/10/2012 - Sevilla

Recommended Posts

Great show in Sevilla last week! It was a cold and rainy day but the audience reacted with a really warm welcome! I loved the happy start with “Dawned on Me”, the crowd made a great effort with “Jesus, Etc”, and I loved hearing some “new songs” that had not been played on my previous concerts on that week: “War on War”, “California Stars”, “The Late Greats” and surprisingly “You And I”… This was sung in duet with a lovely lady called Elena (I think she had something to do with the organization of the concert). I really loved the slow “Spiders” version and hearing “Shouldn’t be Ashamed” again was magic. A guy with a really loud voice kept screaming “Passenger Side” throughout the show, but it was not played (luckily for me they played it in Madrid!!).

The venue was terrible, a huge tent where the cold wind of the night filtered through the open entrances (and guys, people keep telling me that in Sevilla it usually is not that cold!), but even the band suffered from it (Mikael was wearing a jumper and scarf and Jeff mentioned that he had a cold). I missed the crazy dance on “Hoodoo Voodoo” to end as it was not played but “A Shot in the Arm” just made a fantastic finale to my week seeing the band in Spain… So, til next time, that I hope it won’t be too long!

I just recorded one video, “You And I”. The sound is not too good but it just works! I may post some pics too in a few days… Cheers!

Yeah, it was interesting when I saw that on the setlist "Wilco" posted on Facebook. I believe Elena is one of the promoters they work with in Spain; the band has sometimes referred to "Olga and Elena" helping them out in Spain in interviews and such. How did she do?

Oh, I think she did great!! You can check out the video, she looked shy but she did wonderfully. I'm just too jealous! ;o) Imagine the situation, how brave of her to sing with Wilco live! 'Though in my case, if there ever was the chance, I would just faint, or even worse, would just go blank and stare speechless at Jeff...

By the way, something I noticed about the audience: New fans! Young people on the first rows who were seeing the band live for the first time (at least in Madrid and Sevilla, the ones I talked to by my side). I must say the age on the first rows in Barcelona was older (just unaffordable to youngsters), but we all "oldies" rocked anyway!!!
