  1. I think it's a gorgeous cover... I wanna say she debuted it live at the Bridge School Benefit where she was on the bill with Wilco and I'm quite sure the fellas got a great kick out of it. She's mentions Wilco a lot and is a self-proclaimed big fan.... and I do think she has made this song part of her regular rotation. You can can get a "live version" of the cover on the bonus lp from her latest release "the Fall" on the UK import, and I believe it's available on itunes as well.

  2.

My earlier point about the sound improvements is that they would be uncompressed (think MP3 quality versus CD quality.) I don't think the goal with every blu-ray release is to make everything fit the 7.1 sound configuration. Rather, whatever the original sound mix given the release would be uncompressed and contain the full spectrum of data on the resulting blu-ray. What we have in the DVD version of IATTBYH is a compressed soundtrack in Dolby 2.0. It is compressed due to the limitations of the media.

Some blu-rays (the painstakingly restored Wizard of Oz for example) was originally a Mono soundtrack. They've updated it, tastefully, to be in Dolby True HD 5.1 or Mono if you prefer.

Yes, these factors would be the obvious reasons for a transfer to Blu Ray, even moreso than any potential video improvement. Nobody knows the full reason why the project was shelved/scratched even with some people pointing out the audio wouldn't transfer right, I remember the band being more concerned with the video and not being asked permission to re-release this movie with getting into issues of who actually owns the rights. That being said, I think "Ashes" could benefit much more from the Blu Ray treatment, and straight from the producers mouth, they pushed for it... I just don't think Nonesuch wants anything to do with it. 'Tis a shame especially with all the possibilities for music and sound on this format. Neil Young gets it.

  3. Wow some of you peeps that wait all hours of the day for a front and center spot really think you own the space for waiting? It's general admission, you don't own jack. Buy a reserved seat if you want that. It's no wonder Jeff calls you guys out during most shows in Chicago..."it's the same people all over again." Hey different strokes for different folks and more power to you if you want to wait all day, but I'm sure the fellas wouldn't appreciate what went down the other night either. If somebody is intruding on your space or being a complete ass it's one thing, grab a security guard. Either way, no concert-goer has the right to boss people around and tell them where to go in a GA setting with plenty of space.

  4. Monday was most certainly better in attendance or on paper. I do like to think Sunday's set flowed a bit better, but of course you don't have to deal with repeats on the 1st night. I'd agree with the comment that the band varied things up just enough with some really nice surprises... loved all the talk about "this is the newest single off our latest release" and then he pulls out the AM vinyl. Before "Nothingsever.." he also made a quick blurb, this single is off our release from a couple weeks back... good stuff. Pat was MVP for me N2. 5th and last show for me in 2009, and where it's always gonna be tough to top the Red Rocks show on my personal list, last nights set did certainly did not disappoint at all and was almost skeptical that it might going in fearful of too many repeats and with the way things started out. Some good home cookin from the fellas though, and more than enough to tide me over until Madison.

  5. Last I heard, Plexifilm was supposed to show the blu ray transfer of "I Am... " to show off how much better it looked and sounded. I had it pre-ordered from the only place that still had it up to be released, but delayed. That was amazon canada. After several months going by and never getting updates, amazon pulled the plug on my pre-order and pulled it from the site. I've emailed Plexifilm numerous times about this release but have never heard response.

I also had some good email conversations about the Ashes release with the directors via email. They had high hopes of getting a Blu Ray release for Ashes, but ultimately said it would primarily be Nonseuch's decision and unfortuanately I don't think it's something Nonseuch wants to deal with. I hope I am wrong. I'd drool over a Wilco Blu Ray.

  6. I usually watch the WGN Morning News while I get ready for work, however was kinda running around today with not getting home until late after the show. Anywho, my co-worker said the fellas were on this morning and played a couple tunes and hoping somebody caught it or it will show up on youtube here soon.

  7. Put me in the category that thought the UIC Pavilion sound was much better than I expected. I dont know if they had an extra long soundcheck or what, but the fellas made a great transition to "arena rock" and really looking forward to tonight after a proper opening night. Perhaps we get a few more surprises tonight, I do kinda hope they limit the repeats to the standard staples...there's just too much to get to tonight.

Few predictions, or at least hopefuls...

    Casino Queen

    Spiders

    Late Greats

    Pot Kettle Black

    Can't Stand It

Cars Can't.... ok now I'm getting greedy, but again so much to tap into for tonight! Dig deep fellas!

  8.

Any good nearby (walking distance) pre-show bars?

I'm curious about this question as well. Hoping to catch at least the first quarter of Bears before heading into the show. The perks of having reserved seats!!

  9. You kids pretty much expect the sets to be kinda similar to the Toronto 2 day run? Any word of a re-appearance by Da Total Pros?? Very cool for Feist to be showing up at various stops along the tour all summer as well, I know I would certainly welcome her with open arms on a little "You and I" duet. Even though Liam is not opening for these shows, it still would not surprise me to see him guest on a "You Never Know" as well.

  10. No, round trip! I got mine on American, but there were some United flights popping up on kayak.com for the same price.

Havent checked personally, but it might even be cheaper to take Southwest out of Louisville. Usually I can get round trips for about $79-$89 from Chicago

  12. It seems Ryan has always been a bit jealous or envious of Tweedy because media and critics seem to praise Wilco more and generally accept they can do certain things no wrong... coming from Adams' point of view.

I'm quite sure many of you have heard his rant to Jim DeRogotis. Not that I usually ever agree with that tool either, but it sure seems Ryan goes out of his way to mention Tweedy or Wilco when he wants to vent.
