  1. How were so many of you able to score Andrew Bird tickets at Schuba's, those seem to have gone in less than 30 seconds? Would have loved to get the chance to see him at Schubba's especially since Lolla's line-up is so ho-hum this year and decided to not go at all. Still trying to decide if I want to make the trek to the Tweedy solo fundraiser.

I've been to several of these shows in the past, and they are all great, though it does seem odd that these genuinely spectacular shows never seem to see the light of day in the tape sharing world. Even though I do love to re-live my concert experiences, these shows alomost become somewhat more of a novelty knowing that being there live at the show will be the only time you will get to hear this performance. It almost makes a rare and special night even much moreso. That being said, it is the third Tweedy solo benefit Chicago has got a chance to see this year, maybe we are just spolied with these type of shows for lack of a better term. Don't get me wrong, I'd go see Tweedy play every night if I could, and this is not a complaint. I think it is wonderful what the Tweedy family does for their kids' Montessori and various similar causes. Actually nevermind me, I think I am just arguing with myself to not break down and buy tickets for this show... then once I get there, it's gonna be a struggle not to go ahead and buy the $200 golden meet-n-greet ticket. On second thought, that's what has kept me from buying these tickets all along.

  2. Ok...now that I got a few minutes I need to pass before the final bell tolls here on this hectic Tuesday in the office, here goes nothing.

Mercy! Sweet jesurs I am spoiled seeing Jeff and the fellas here in Chicago. That being said, Red Rocks is the best full band performance I have seen the Residency shows are just too tough to distinguish from one another, best Tweedy show is either 3-5-05 or the 10-30-06 show at the Pabst is an instant classic as well. The benefit shows always pack a punch and have plenty of rarities to go around, but it is kinda unfortunate that no recordings have shown up for those shows from the past couple years. I can always hold onto hope for one day though... some great performances at the Vic.

  3. kinda wishing they had a few more Fall dates to announce with this one, as there might be quite a few folks that might be a bit more eager to come see a Wilco show in Chicago. I'd expect this to be a tough ticket, but it should serve as a fine venue that will be able to cater to the amount of people that are gonna want to go to this show. hopefully tickets going on-sale so far in advance might shy some away in thinking there is plenty of time to secure tickets up lstr

  4. At this point in their careers Wilco CAN fill Wrigley, United Center or any other large venue. I doubt it will be any of the giant places, but I see no reason that they couldn't compete in that market.

I'm not so sure, we are talking 38,000+, it would have to take a pretty hefty supporting act or bill to pull off a sell-out or even come close imo. Elton and Billy didn't even sell out their second show there, granted they don't have tens of thousands crazed Chicago fans hungry for new material, but still I'd think Wrigley is still just a smidge out of their range and comfort level as far as their progression goes. 20,000 in thier hometown I can see without a probelm though with just the right amount of hype.

  5. prolly won't be Wrigley since they would have to do it in Oct or November when baseball season is over. Concerts tear the hell out of a field.

Actually they are having 3 concerts in Wrigley within a matter of 6 days starting tonight. Elton John and Billy Joel there this evening. That being said, a concert at Wrigley in late summer/ early fall does not seem very likely, even on top of the stretch that Wilco could/would play there, or want to for that matter.

  6. Are we thinking the show will be between 10,000 Lakes and Europe, or after Europe?

I'm thinking after Europe...but that's just pure speculation on my part. Who knows if they'll even add more US dates besides this Chicago one.

On a sidenote, you really think Allstate sound is worse than United Center? I'll take Allstate or Sears Center any day over the UC.

  7. All it takes is one of these threads to get down on the abundance of sub-par venues we have here in Chicago. That's not to say we don't still have some really great ones as well, but it doesn't get much worse than the bottom of the list...

    Aragon-no comment.

United Center- good call on the aluminum celing, awful sound for concerts.

First Midwest-Tinley Park (perhaps the most awful outdoor amp in existance?)

    Vic/Riv/Metro-all need MAJOR work.

  8. Why? It's bigger than the auditorium and about twice the size of the Riv.

My bad, for whatever reason I read Aragon and thought Metro. Sounding so similar, you could see why I could get so easily confused. :huh Aragon makes perfect sense, even though not neccessarily a sexy venue for them to play.

Chicago Theatre would be very ideal as well

  9. I don't know why, but I'm thinking a new different venue for this time around...the post does say show though as in singular, so I'm thinking it's gotta be a place that holds some peeps for a proper homecoming.

Wrigley is too big, even in Chicago, perhaps with a nice double-bill with the likes of MMJ or something, but me thinks we would have certainly already heard about a Wrigley date.

Millenium Park again would be cool no doubt, but again with the way the city pre-plans for these events, I'm not sure we wouldn't have already heard something.

Vic, Riv, Auditorium- Been there, done that.

    Suggestions/Possibilites:

Navy Pier Skyline Stage- I don't even know how many that venue holds.

Charter One Pavilion- A bigger outdoor amp along the lake...

Ravina- Probably would have already heard about this as well as Ravina releases all their dates at once for the most part.

Chicago Theatre- Sounded great for My Morning Jacket last year, a big possibility?

  10. I love this aspect of places like Red Rocks. I avoid reserved seating for this very reason. I don't like to feel as if I'm at a movie and need to remained seated and eyes glued to the main event. The trees areas are good places for view and sound, mostly, too. Usually right by the beer vendors as well.

My ex went with a group of folks in which some were just a little familiar with the band and others were really into the band. During the show the first category of folks were bored and some wanted to leave. It's like that at any concert, though. Nice place to hang out if you're not into the band, though....

Hey Chris, I tried to pm you but it seems that you can't except any new messages. Great to meet up with you!

  11. Just got back home here after a wonderful weekend among the rockies...

The more I try to argue against it, the more it becomes all too clear that this was the best and most fun Wilco show that I've attended out of 20+ and thats with the 5 show residency included. Jeff and all the fellas were in such great spirits, there really must be something in the air up there to get so many legendary bands to play theyre very best at this awesome wonder of a venue. I wish I had better words to describe, the atmosphere and felling of this night would be tough to give justice to.

  12.

Also, anyone in Denver who can sell me a joint or two would kick soooo much ass! :D

Similar request, quite the difficult task to fly the friendly skies these days with any greenery. Thanks Bin Laden. Anyways, these two tickets I have also would make great barter. :shifty :rock

  13. they've played the new material pretty straight to what's on the album so far. even "bull black nova" live is remarkably similar to the studio version - which IMO is unfortunate since that song would benefit from a little bit of extra jeff-is-losing-it emotion at the end.

Yeah, but even Spiders took some time to grow into the mega rock-out anthem that it is today. The songs will mature live as they start to play them more. You Never Know is already sounding a bit more polished and loose live than the radio edit/album version.

  14. Just want to get a general feeling on what peeps expect to be concert staples off this album. I have to admit I havent been watching sets all that closely in anticipation for Red Rocks, but it looks like the most new songs in one show have been 5 at Berkeley this past weekend? It seems that Sky Blue Sky tunes still take precedent in the early summer shows, and most certainly the spring shows. At the 2 Milwaukee early spring shows there were 2 new songs the first night and none the second. What new songs have yet to debut? What songs do you doubt they will play much, if at all (until the next residency that is)

Glad to see Bull Black Nova already seems to be creeping into most sets, I'm certainly looking forward to hearing Sonny Feeling as well.

  15. I held out until I recieved my Kung Fu pre-order(s) yesterday and I couldn't be happier that I did, though the anticipation just about killed me. I wanted the new material fresh in my head anyways since I'll be travelling to see the fellas at Red Rocks this weekend, but now that I have listened to the album on vinyl, I can't possibly imagine any stream to be able to replicate what I heard and listened to last night for the first time. Hell, I don't even think the cd can touch the sound this album brings to vinyl. I think it's a very SOLID album, and cannot wait for the prospects and avenues these songs have the potential to bring to a live setting.
