The lie is that what seemed like a story of a scrappy washed-up pitcher, who, through hard work and determination, got back to the majors as the second coming of Babe Ruth. That story makes us feel good, as it shows that hard work and determination is rewarded. To find out that a substance in ill repute, whether it was legal or not at the time - was involved in the equation shows that the fix is in and cheaters prosper. Particularly in a town like St. Louis, which had to go through all this with McGwire.
I understand where you're coming from but I think this different (and maybe I just want this to be different). McGwire, Bonds, Canseco et al cheated by using an illegal substance in the back room of a local gym. To me, Ankiel's doctor recommend the HGH and that makes it much different. Why did this come out on the day he hit two homers with 7 rbi's? Why wasn't anyone else fingered by this reporter? Here's a blog from Bernie of the Post Dispatch...

My Lord - J.D. Drew sucks, sucks, sucks.
JD is one of my favorite players...we got Adam Wainwright and Jason Marquis (for 3 seasons) for him!!

Well, it's never good when a feel-good story turns out to be based upon a lie.
When did Ankiel lie? His doctor prescribed it thru a pharmacy during his rehab before much was even known about HGH.

the cubs needed that something awful.
now i get to see the next two games in person. i think the cubs are 0-9 (including nefi perez's double error in the 9th memorial day weekend 2006) in games i attended the last 3 years so i would find your nearest bookie and fade me hard.
I wish you were going Sunday and Monday too!!

Stan The Man Musial was a great pitcher in the minors before an arm injury.

I'm excited about the draft!! The Blues have 3 first round picks and 4 in the top 40! Only 65 minutes to go!!!

Hey, my Cardinals scored in the first inning last night (second time this season!) Yeah! And Duncan hit a home run (first for the team since Dunc hit one on May 1st). Thank god for the NL Central! We'll be there in the end!!

I thought Aerosmith was great as FVB, but that was back when I was like 14 and before they went into rehab.

I had a dresser with an attached mirror. I put his football card up there next to Bob Gassoff, the St. Louis Blues tough guy who died the previous year in a motorcycle accident. Never a fan of Tatum and I sure hated him after that!
It was cool to hear of all the good things he did after that...RIP

I may try to hit the Oregon shows. I want to go out there in May anyway, and since I'll be in NOLA for Jazz Fest, that would be the first weekend I could go, but it might be pushing it. Urgh!

some of the song choices on guitar are interesting (dont think twice and lay lady lay, for example). i hope the number of tunes doesnt keep dwindling. better seeing him center stage rather than crouching behind the toy casio at the edge of the stage! last time he played guitar at his own shows was in october 2003.

Thanks my friend! I should've done that to start with lol...

First two shows so far on the spring tour to date, the first show had Bob on electric guitar for the first 7 songs and the second had the first 5 songs. Then it was back to the electric keyboard for the remainder of the show. I hope this keeps up...really missed his playing. I'd like to see the return of the acoustic set, but I'll take this for now!

I didn't really know much about them before I saw them at Jazz Fest in NOLA 2006...and later in StL 8/06. I thought they were great live! It's cool they stayed together for so long...

well, if you just go by attendance, the lightning draw 19,786 a game vs. the panthers at 15,242. so, i guess you could assume that the panthers are the weak link in that state. plus, tampa just won the cup in 2004.
i really have no opinion on the predators moving. a team is a team at this point.
st. louis has the worst draw in the league at 12,177. what the hell is going on over there? if i had my choice, the blues would move a few hundred miles west. they were my first love anyway. would be nice to see them more often. no offense stl., but you have something we would love to have here in k.c. and you are just letting it twist in the wind.
Since 1967, The Blues have been right up there with Philly as far as a solid fanbase. Things started to unravel in 2003-4 when they fired Coach Quennville...then the lock out...then the selling off of key players for the pending sale of the team...missing the playoffs for the first time in 25 years...then the sale...then the new owners bump tix like 10% for a rebuilding team...however the team has drawn MUCH better since the Murray came on board, almost a sellout Saturday night.
JD will get this right and soon, and the fans believe this. With lots of cash to spend in the offseason, I really believe that we'll be a playoff contending team next year...Viva La Blue!!!

Where did you see that Ankiel's doctor's prescription was obtained illegally?
