  1. I've heard that sometimes it's the length - that is, a portion of a song will be given a pass, whereas the whole song gets pulled.

There's hundreds more to be pulled in that case, and some have been up for years. Hell,

is much nicer (pro shot, looks like someone got it from the blue room stream) and has been up since August 2006...

It still shows up in "my videos", and I have no messages from youtube.

And I had 56 views in like 10 minutes! Oh well.

    eta: It's back up again!

  2. If you are getting in town early enough, you can look for a non-meter and non-regulated parking spot near the L, and just park your car there for the week.

You could probably get away with that, but there is a law in Chicago that a car that hasn't moved in 3 days is considered abandoned and subject to ticket and tow to an impound lot. Realistically, this won't happen unless one of the neighbors calls it in because it's in the spot he usually parks in or some other reason.

And be careful of snow routes! Some streets don't allow parking from 2 am to 6 am, snow or no snow.

  3. Just a little public service announcement. If anyone is considering using ebay or stubhub or whatever please be careful. I don't know about any of the other venues but the sites I have been checking out for Ryman tix ( got mine thru pre-sale...just checking ) have some, shall I say dubious wording. If anyone is interested in pursuing Ryman tickets find out EXACTLY where the seats are located. There are obscured view seats in there (in the main floor area...behind the supports for the balcony), also I have seen some vendors advertising FRONT ROW!!!!!, again check. The way the sections are alligned one section starts in the middle of another. You may indeed have a "front row" ticket, but front row of section, which may be a good 15 rows or more back from the stage. You can check out a seat map for the Ryman balcony chart or main floor. Click on the image for a larger view. The maps will show seats that have obscured views and let you see what you are getting. Most of the seat charts on those sites don't show the exact seats for the Ryman.

Again I can't speak for other venues, just The Ryman but anybody thinking about using ticket broker sites please be careful.

Just for the hell of it I checked Ticketbastard, there's single tickets available for the Ryman show right now.

  4. The only solution I could figure out is if they set up some sort of mail order system like the Dead had if they want to insure tix get into the fans hands and not brokers.

The Dead only got a percentage of tickets, you still had a damn good chance of getting shut out of a popular show. I think I only got about half the Deer Creek tickets I mail ordered for. And there were plenty of scalpers of Dead tickets.

This was a tough ticket, there's more Wilco fans who want to go at $45 a ticket than there are seats available.

And I like the Riv! Beats the hell out of the Aragon and I never feel right at a seated rock show. I don't remember too many people complaining about Lounge Ax, the Riv is like a palace compared to that place (not that I didn't love it!).

I'm dreading the day we'll have to see them in hockey arenas.

  5. I have to admit that, I too, expected more foresight and "scalper reality" savvy from the best band in the world. I am flabbergasted that tickets were on ebay and other sites before the public onsale even took place.

Bands actually have little control over ticket sales most times. Ticketbastard has contracts with venues, not bands, to sell tickets. Typically, the band gets ~10% of the tickets (which Wilco sells through their pre-sale), the promoter gets an allotment, the venue gets an allotment, the sponsor (WXRT) gets an allotment. Probably only 60% or so of available tickets for most events are made available to the general public.

Oh, and it gets worse for large venues such as the United Center and Soldier Field. Did you know that Bulls/Blackhawks season ticket holders get first crack at all events held at the United Center? Same for Bears season ticket holders for events at Soldier Field. That's why you end up with nosebleed seats at the UC even though you're "first" in line for tickets.

As you can see, there's lots of ways for brokers to get their hands on tickets before they ever go on sale to the general public.

  6. i thought i remembered reading once that sam jones shot footage for a dvd at the vic shows but it was ruined, and thus no dvd. so it could be possible they'll be shooting these shows... if that's even true about the sam jones footage.

I don't think it was ruined so much as the band simply didn't like it.

  7. I need help: Do I A) stick to my morals and not buy from a broker and miss my favorite band in my home town for five nights, or B ) suck it up and buy over priced tickets from some jerk who screwed me out of getting them the first time around? Any ideas?

The brokers will always have them, so if I were you I'd wait. I have never been shut out from Wilco tickets and have never bought from a scalper. Odds are either someone here will have extras, and I'd bet that more tickets will be released through Ticketbastard a week or 2 before the show, check it often! I got every Auditorium show ticket I ever had* through late releases from Ticketbastard, though I have to admit it's stressful waiting until the last minute like that! And the late release tickets in seated shows are usually very good!

*with the exception of the first show of the last run, which I bought on Craigslist the day of show for face value from a roadie who was working the show.
