  1. It would actually be simpler and less work for Stan to record multi-channel, mixing down to stereo on the spot would be problematic and require headphones. And if he was doing all that the room mix would likely suffer. Record multi-channel and you can always down-mix later in the studio any way you like it.

Back in, I think, '97 their old sound man Adam plugged me into the board and when I got home I discovered that there was no bass or vocals in the mix, it was pretty much all Jay Bennet's guitar. And I was patched in to his cd recorder, so this is what the band recorded also! But the Rock the River show came out very nice from the board mix, it's pretty hit and miss.

But now that computer recording is easy and cheap there's no reason not to just record multi-channel and mix later.

  2. i think its time to just go back to putting tickets on sale at the box office only and having to buy in person.

Heh, I remember one morning standing in line for Grateful Dead tickets at the Ticketbastard in Carson's downtown. We all got numbers, and then the starting number was picked "randomly" and... it was totally rigged. The first 20 people in line were homeless bums being herded by a guy in a suit while he yapped on his cell phone (in the days when few people had them).

The scalpers will get them no matter what. :ohwell

  3. Not disputing any of that. Just saying for people who have never been in the area before, its not the same type of neighborhood as Metro, or Double Door, and you do need to exercise a little more caution if you wind up parking on a side street.

The parking lots nearby are expensive - expect to pay $20. BUT, if you are reasonably early there is almost always street parking available along the cemetary on Lawrence just west of the Riv.

Uptown is not at all scary any more, though it seems most people on the street walk with a limp for some reason. :lol There's always homeless people at the shelter a few blocks east, no big deal.

And while we're doing the Google street view, here's the Riv in all its glory! The building next door has new windows now instead of plywood...

eta: the Uptown Lounge kitty-corner from the Riv is a great place for drinks before/after the show, and open 'til 4am. And no cover, the Green Mill will probably cost you $15 to get in the door.

  4. Have any tapers reported ticket success yet?

Not me, my g/f got through right away but it was already sold out. I'll have her try again for the xrt pre-sale but I'm much less optimistic getting anything through that. At least Saturday I'll be able to try myself. Gonna go beg for an extra 5-day pass on How To Fight lonliness now...

  5. Because he's the Governor... only in West Virginia, can you run into your Governor (who never acted alongside Danny Devito as his twin brother) at Circuit City.

I once saw Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. buying a big-screen TV at Best Buy. He had his black SUV with Congressional plates at the entrance, and they were trying to load it in there but it wouldn't fit. So they had to remove it from the box. He didn't have any security with him.

I'm very excited about these shows! Hopefully my g/f will be able to get me the 5-day pass from her work tomorrow, I don't have a computer at work. :ohwell

  6. The last thing in the world I would call Van Morrison is under rated. He has put out records since the mid-60s and has never NOT had a record contract.

Speaking of Van and record companies... have you guys all heard his contractual obligation album? Seems Van wasn't too happy with that particular company... :lol

Van has been in heavy rotation for me for nearly 20 years.

  7. I can't even get to the page--it never loads. Just white space.

It's not a page, it's a direct link to the mp3. It's 5mb, so may take a while to d/l if you have a slow connection. Best to just right-click and save it to your HD.

  8. I saw him play last night at Martyr's (it was a WXRT "Live from studio x" thing). I never listened to a lot of his stuff, but he is a damn fine songwriter. Lin Brehmer told him he actually seemed contented on his new album, Steve said that his world is very satisfying right now, and something about haiku (sp?) and how he practices it and it's about seeing your immediate surroundings or something. He did a few songs from the new CD with his wife, and some old songs as well. Only a 50 minute show, but very entertaining!

  9. Here's a mp3 teaser of Shake It Off, I can only leave it up for a few hours because of bandwidth limitations on my end, so save it to your HD. If anyone wants to host it themselves feel free.

I'll torrent this here as soon as I can, probably within a few days. I will be taping Friday's show also, don't know yet about Saturday I still have to find tickets good enough to tape from. I was out of town when they went on sale... :(
