  1. That sucks. Maybe Wilco will sign Ted to their label and that would be the first step to my dream bill of Ted Leo and the Pharmacests opening for Wilco!

I actually saw them open for Wilco a few years back in Rhode Island. It was pretty sweet!

    1. Jesus Etc. (Sooooooooo played out live, but when I look back this is the song that hooked me on Wilco and I distinctly remember how awesome and different the words and arrangement were to anything else I had heard before)

Even though we are allowing MA songs I just couldn't get myself to list any as Jeff didn't write any of the words. And my top 7 are pretty consistently always at my top but the rest are fairly interchangeable from day to day.

Great Memories from all of these shows from the "Brown" horns in Providence to the shirtless, cowbell playin' guitar techie at Jazz Fest this year. I can safely say I've never left a show disappointed and am always reassured rock'n roll is still alive afterwards.

  4. Go to the website and then click on the 'Shows' link. Click on your show and there will be a pop-up for requests.

And every show I've been to cameras have been okay, and I know they are okay with the band, but I think ultimately it's up to the venue.

  5. 1st show of 2009 was a great one. This was the loosest Wilco performance I have been to in quite some time. I have read so many times on these post show threads about how tight the band was on that particular night. And I always agree. That is what made last nights show different and fun. They were not the hit every note band last night, more get up on stage and work through the kinks. It was fantastic. Jeff mentioned they had been busy finishing their album and other projects and had not had a lot of rehearsel time.

During John's interview yesterday at Jazz Fest he said in response to a question about rehearsing for tours that he wanted to apologize to Milwaukee because they are typically the first shows on a tour and he said that in reality Wilco doesn't ever rehearse more than 5 hrs. before a tour and that the first couple of nights are like the rehearsal.

Sounds like a good thing to me if the show was that good

  6. In John's interview today with David Fricke he said it's self titled "Wilco". I guess there comes a time for every band when they release a self titled record.

And the show was great today (last few songs really made it awesome)! They all seemed super loose and having a lot of fun. Jeff was smiling like the whole show. Real nice day overall in New Orleans.

  7. First, one quip which hasn't been mentioned is the Walken/ITMWLY set closer, either first set or first encore. I think it's got to be about 2 years straight where they play those songs successively (I'm looking at Residency set lists as well and it's the same). Sure, they are fun rockers but when I hear those first notes of Walken I can always know that the set is about to end, anyone else a bit annoyed?

Second, I noticed after making a request the other day that some of the most requested songs are IG, Jesus, Hummingbird and other songs that are just about locks to make the set regardless. I guess I just figure that anyone who has the knowledge to make a request also has the knowledge of typical sets. Am I wrong in that assumption?

But like always I will be a happy camper even when seeing the boys on Sat. at Jazz fest even though I'm pretty sure it will be a fairly standard set list.

  8. haven't seen the dvd yet but did catch a screening tonight here in NOLA and was generally happy to see my favorite band doing what they love best... play kick ass beautiful music. I do have some nit picky quips with the film as a whole but overall am glad that us fans get a document of a great band at their live peak (arguably). My biggest knock on the film is how they would jump around from the banter after one song to a completely different point in the set with different clothes and instruments. Anyone with any kind of eye can catch that stuff and to me it's just annoying. I also think they could have used a better closer than 'War' but that is just me. As for the dialogue and the non-continuation of stories I'd say that it was consistent throughout the whole film that there wasn't any story line, just thoughts and an overall sense of the road which wasn't anything special but also wasn't bad in my opinion. Really, I think I've just been wanting a full length concert dvd from this band and am a bit disappointed with the length of the movie (too short).

So, I can't wait to get the dvd and and download the audio tracks (hopefully get a concert as well) and to see the extra songs because really the music is highlight of the movie imho.

  9. I must say that the ducks flying over at the end of You are My Face added a special bit of magic. Impossoble Germany just gets better and better for me. And the Glen ROCKSTAR before ITMWLY was the greatest one yet.

Show was spot on for the short amount of time and I totally agree with the above statement with the ducks (seagulls?) flying overhead, and I think Jeff noticed it too, i caught him look up near the end of the song in appreciation of the surrounding area (cypress trees, sunset, birds, 10,000 people) and it was one of those 'everything is alright with the world' moments.

The Glen Rockstar was the best I've seen yet as well, and I've gotta say as much as I am tired of hearing the Walken-ITMWLY combo (especially to close the set), those songs just never really get old and Wilco always finds a way to make them sound alive.

Third time I've heard Mountain Bed live, and I feel like it is such a treat to get that one, such a great way to start the show!

Finally, i was with my sister who had never seen them before, and she was floored to say the least, it was great!

  10. I'm pretty sure they played it at Tanglewood

See, and I was pretty sure they didn't. I heard it at shows last year, tho.

I've got the recording and they definitely come onto that music.

  11. The glass can be half full! and my husband thinks I'm a pessimist.

Always nice to have a bit of positivity. It's the shorter set that gets me as well. I'd be with you with the leaving early to avoid the rush but I'll be with my sister who has decided to let me choose all of the shows to see for the weekend, and in return she does still want to catch a bit of Jack. I guess that's not asking too much.

  12. I know it's been run by already, but I still can't get over the fact that Wilco is stuck behind Jack f-in Johnson. How does that happen. Taking my Wilco bias out of the equation I still don't see how it works. For a headliner you want someone who is going to rock the crowd into the night (ie: Radiohead, Tom Petty) not sing us to sleep with a lullaby. Just don't get it.

  13. i heard from a unreliable source that you could bring a cooler (with beer...soda..) into tanglewood...if you are on the lawn. I am just wondering if anybody here knows if this is true? If it is that would be very awesome.

Definitely true. If you are in the lawn you can bring any food item you'd like, including booze. People sometimes go all out there.

  14. Nice sound for a live show. Video's a bit shaky, but I still got the feel from the show. Man, i just can't believe that they're still just getting better and better. I truly feel that with this level of musicianship the sky literally is the limit. Go Wilco!

  15. Just the other day I ran this orange/yellow shirt (traditional tibetan wear) that I had picked up in India last year. I knew I should be careful washing it, but I finally decided to throw it in. I figured as long as the water was on cold it would be fine. Open up the washing machine an hour later and anything that was white (yep, i don't separate whites and darks) was now a funny yellow color.

Oh well, a good lesson in non attachment, and a good sign of how much of a doofus I am when it comes to washing clothes

  16. Would you care to make accomodation recomendations?

Everything in the area is going to be through the roof for pricing. This is in the thick of the tourism season up here and because of Tanglewood and the BSO everything is expensive and goes quickly. There are a ton of Bed + Breakfasts and Inns and variety of places to stay, but from what I know, all are a pretty penny.

If you've got the money, I'd check out the Apple Tree Inn which is the only accommodation that is within a 5 minute walk. Also, motels in Pittsfield will be cheaper than anything in Lenox, Stockbridge, or Lee. But to tell the truth, I've never stayed anywhere here so I don't know for sure. If your in for some Berkshire history, there is the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge. It's also possible to book a room for the night at the yoga center where I work (kripalu.org) and you can have your meals, hot tub, sauna, yoga classes included. This will also be fairly expensive, but is also only a 5 minute walk from Tanglewood.

If you're into it I'd recommend camping in Beartown St. Park which is about 15 minutes away. This will definitely be your cheapest option.

Let me know if you've got any other questions about the area.
