  1. The movie didn't have the subtle, ongoing, quiet tension that was so brilliant in the book. I am not sure how it's even possible to translate the things I found so appealing about the book into a film......However, the relationship between the man and his son became even more intense for me in the movie. I can't remember the last time I had to sit through the credits just to give myself time to stop crying.

  2. I actually like the fact they play less music these days. I used to get so frustrated that weekday evenings were filled with music shows. There are plenty of stations that play music - and only one good talk station. They still have World Cafe and Radio M and a few others. I don't mind a little music here and there - but the weeknight lineup was not to my liking. When I moved to Chicago from STL I was pretty unimpressed with WBEZ, since KWMU in St Louis has a great NPR/PRI lineup. Then again, that's just my preference. :D

Now, if they dumped eight-forty-eight for some music programming? I'd give you that one. :P

  3. News and Notes doesn't air in Chicago now - but I think it used to. I just heard it here in STL a few days ago.

I have been listening to TAL via podcast for a long time now and they hit up podcast listeners every six months or so for donations for bandwidth. I still get my TAL through iTunes.

Maybe WBEZ would do better if they didn't give out those stupid coffee mugs (after you tell them not to send you one). :P

  4. beautiful night, beautiful park in a beautiful city filled with the most beautiful people. I was quite tearful, hugging my neighbors, making friends, and just awash with joy.

The only thing that would have made it perfect was to have our Emily with us. I miss her so much.

    WE DID IT!!!

    :cheers

one of my favorite sights was standing on the Congress Ave. bridge watching the "parade" down Michigan Ave. surreal.....wonderful!

    peace.

  5. so, with your argument Ikol, if someone has a fat insurance policy, but continues to smoke(or whatever) it's okay for them to drain insurance companies of their money because they paid into it?

I mean, of course, it's ridiculous when people continue to smoke, drink, etc when those things threaten their health, treatment, etc.......but it sounds like you're only angry with poor/uninsured people who do it.

Even with insurance, someone else essentially is footing the majority of the bill with those huge procedures - i.e. all of those people who pay in, and don't get sick......So, do insured people owe it to the other insured people to take better care of themselves?

I'd just like a clarification of your argument.

    :)
