and it's not just the amazing solos and lightning-fast picking... even the simple stuff - like the lines that he lays down under the choruses of "war on war*" - adds so much to the songs, it's hard to imagine the band without nels. i can't believe some people think wilco were at their best circa 2000-2001 - or earlier. *(one can't hear them too well on the edmonton recording, but live they stand out)

anyone else record this show? i'm/we're looking for something w/o the computer noises and volume fluctuations... nels is god.

speaking of downloading problems... a while back i bought some stuff off of the wilco store... it said if you ordered 30$ or more worth of goods, you'd be able to dl a bunch of .mp3's... did anybody cash in on this? anyway, due to computer hassles, i didn't download them within the specified window and i missed out. boo-urns... the question is: what did i miss? was it good? should i be choked?

Uh no. Start with stuff in standard tuning / 1st position to learn the basics. While Metallica won't give you scenester cred like Iron & Wine, you'll get your fingers used to doing their thing sans pick. But since "Halcyon" doesn't want anybody playing Metallica, you should find a good "Needle and The Damage Done" tab... Learn. The. Basics. It'll make it easier to actually learn songs - and not just memorize them - down the road.

New to finger-picking? Start with Metallica. "Nothing Else Matters" & "Fade To Black".

Hook your stereo up to your computer/mixer/recorder/whatever... If you have a reciever/speaks great, if not, any boombox with an aux-in will do. Make a mix that sounds good on that, and it'll sound good on whatever it gets played on. Your home studio $'s are better spent on better mics...

I have come to the conclusion that Leroy Bach quit Wilco at the 7 minute mark of "Less Than You Think". Discuss.

if you're trying to play along to the verson of laminated cat from the movie, then slap a capo on 2... sorry if i'm totally stating the obvious here.
