  1. I guess I'll field this one!

First off, here's the recording of Walken from Lollapalooza, with horns of course. Hope you enjoy.

Second, to the best of my knowledge, the songs that have been performed live with horns to date are Misunderstood, Monday, California Stars, I'm The Man Who Loves You, and after this summer, Walken. If it were, uh, up to me, I'd want to see them on Is That The Thanks I Get, along with a major Pieholden Suite comeback.

As for the studio recording, who knows? I definitely wouldn't expect them, but it could be a nice surprise.

  2. Hey folks -

Here's the long-awaited recording of the new song Let's Not Get Carried Away, taped by Jon Ice. Until I can get his permission to convert, I'm going to spread it in lossless format, but hopefully that'll change some time tomorrow.

Thanks so much to Jon for his quick turnaround.

EDIT: Luckily he doesn't mind. Here's an mp3 link, in addition to the FLAC.

EDIT 2: Now with the official title! The mp3 is still called wreck myself, so don't get confused.

PS: Yes, there's a thread for this song already, but it's a little long - who's going to keep searching all the way to the end?

EDIT 3: Full show is now up at http://bt.viachicago.org/details.php?id=605. It's a reseed of the etree posting (http://bt.viachicago.org/details.php?id=605), so if you got it from there, seed away!

  3. An audio rip of that DVD is now available on the Via Chicago BT Tracker here:

There was an audience source posted there as well a few weeks ago, but it appears to have been taken down. I don't have the files myself, but perhaps someone can reseed.

Lollapalooza sets from Stars, deadboy & the Elephantmen, Editors, and The Hold Steady, in addtion to partial sets from Broken Social Scene, Iron & Wine, Sleater-Kinney, Andrew Bird, and the Go! Team are now available in the iTunes Music Store. More might be coming. After a month in the iTMS, Lollapalooza will supposedly offer the sets from their website, with lossless options available.

  4. It's Ken Sumka, a DJ at WXRT.

And the story behind the pic: "I can't remember if it was Jay of Jeff that mentioned how tall I was but they squatted down to accentuate the point. Unfortunately this is the only picture I got with just me and them, a normal one would've been cool."

  5. very cool! - if you dont mind my asking, how did you score those gigs?

It all really comes down to the fine musicians in Wilco being among the most humble, down-to-earth rock stars you'll ever meet. The Brown Concert Agency booked the band for our Spring Weekend concerts this April, and I had some of their horn charts lying around that I'd transcribed for a band that I fronted in high school. I figured there was no reason why we shouldn't be playing with Wilco at the show, and fortunately enough, they agreed. They liked us enough to bring us down to Jersey the next night, and when we told them we could be in Chicago for Lollapalooza, they were game. Just the fact that this band thinks it's at all reasonable to have some college kids they barely know come out and join them at the largest (?) show they've ever played in their hometown seems completely out of hand to us, but hey, we'll allow it. Nice guys.

  6. As long as there's a thread about us, I might as well clear up a few things. I'm the sax player in the group. Unfortunately, we're definitely not hitchhikers from Jersey, and for the record, we're not Brown Band members either - I despise all things marching band. Just musicians who like to play out whenever possible. (One more note - I'm the only one from Lolla who was there for the Jersey or Providence shows - the other two this time were friends from high school).

Thrilled to see all the positive comments in the show and webcast threads, especially about Walken - glad you guys like the horns on it as much as I did.

And wheelco, I'm sorry to hear your horn-proficient, rock-liking self doesn't dig - this thread turned up a whole slew of good examples of the art, but it's certainly not for everyone.

    Catch y'all later.

  7. thank god you guys arrived to clear this one up, i was starting to worry LeRoy didn't know how to capitalize his own name...

EDIT: just in case anyone is misinterpreting my late-night sarcastic posting, i'm with kris, kate, sam, and brianne all the way on this one! the lesson here is that the definitively-presented knowledge of VCers (especially, but not limited to, the old-timers) should be valued above any number of google hits - this site and its knowledgeable fans are the true wilco encyclopedia.

  8. Just for everyone's reference, MMM is from 6:00-8:00 on Sunday night, and Wilco plays from 6:30 to 7:30, so assuming you want to see Wilco, you'll only be catching snippets of Mike's set. At least the Bud Light stage isn't too far from the Mindfield stage.

  9. hey all,

i had a great time at the show, my first wilco experience was a great one. thanks to the boys from sarycuse. hope you are home safe.

i managed to get a setlist and was pretty pissed when i saw what should have been the second encore. due to rosanne cash starting late we all missed out on a second encore of what should have been via chicago and spiders (booo to you rosanne cash)

    kev

    kev, you went! bravo! :cheers

    glad you had fun.

  10. I know a few people who almost went, alas, no dice. All the convincing in the world couldn't get them out of their other plans, even informing them that they might be the only ones on the internet who could report the setlist. Instead, still a mystery. :thumbdown
