  1. I got a copy of this last week and am very pleased with it. It is definitely the mellowest album from these guys (they assure me they are working on a new rocker) but has some catchy up beat tunes. They are also doing a pretty big tour up the entire east coast here in a couple of weeks. Definitely check them out if they are in your neighborhood.

  2. And to that point, I've now taken your earlier suggestion and called over a dozen stores (including several I used to frequent in person in Boston, Berkeley and Atlanta), and nobody's doing mail order in order to preserve the integrity of the event. And I understand this to the point that one of the goals of the day is to foster the experience of being in the store (i.e. smelling the vinyl, people watching, talking to the likeminded clerks and/or customers, etc.). Not only that, nobody can even tell me for sure if they're getting whatever particular record in stock that day, so even if I could drive a couple of hours to the ATL, there's no guarantee that I'd even get what I was looking for. That said, I'm stuck here in Alabama, and by calling/emailing several of these stores I'm giving them the opportunity to make even more money than they are going to make anyway and, methinks, through financial participation in the event help these stores make it to the 3rd annual Record Store Day in 2010. It's not like I'm petitioning Amazon to carry this stuff or order direct from Matador b/c I can't be bothered to head on down to my local store. Trust me I used to manage the indie record shop in Tuscaloosa and bemoan the death of that type of store/experience as much as anyone.

So back to the original point of my post, if anyone wants to pick up the Pavement live LP for me, I'd be glad to pay you back for your troubles.

Edit: In fact, my whole experience today in talking to these stores has been tainted by an air of obtuse exclusivity on their part (and maybe their poicies come straight from the Record Store Day higher ups) that has probably led to many a store's downfall and the need for day's such as this saturday.

I was going to suggest you go to oz in tuscaloosa but i guess you used to manage that store (unless you manage vinyl solutions back in the day). the guy at oz told me a few weeks back they would have the dvd and if you are in birmingham it's only about a 30 or 45 minute drive and you could check out the a day festivities while you are there.

  3. Mon Apr 20 '09 Athens, GA The Classic Center Grand Hall

Is this where they played in spring 2006?

I recall that it was general admission and folks were unhappy with the setup (or maybe sound)?

Any go to the athens GA show in 2006?

Yeah, the sound in the room of the classic center where they played in 06 is certainly underwhelming. That said, there is a theater side of the classic center that sounds great.

    Sloss Furnaces

Oh gosh the Sloss Furnaces sucks as a venue. I don't know why they wouldn't play the Alabama Theater in Bhm. They played there the night they won the Grammies and then Tweedy played solo there a few years ago. It is a beautiful place with a great sound. Sloss freakin' Furnaces... awful, awful venue. The only benefit is that it will be general admission...

I'm with you on this. The Alabama Theater is such a great venue.
