  1. my point had nothing to do with the obviousness of that particular decision, it was one freakin' example of an inclusion in the book of-

Actually, nevermind, posting in this particular thread is like talking to a wall. actually, it's more like this:

    :frusty

thats okay, I'm tired of it too. Lets let the thread get dusty and eat cookies and drink beer and not post until next year when the new record comes out. We ran out of stuff since the tour ended. I could start a controversy on which disc of Being There is superior, but..... nevermind I think I will. Damnit, but after that I am staying away until next album comes out and someone says its not as good as AM, and someone else says "where is the drone?"

  2. I am finding I have a dislike for what weve heard of "Let's Fight", which is weird cause I have really enjoyed everything else that come up.

"What Light" is boardering on mixtape classic already. And I wasn't alone in thinking Impossible Germany is tops.

What I wonder is did "On & ON" and "Either Way" get discarded by the band or did they just put them away to save them for the record after playing them a couple times?

  3. I don't know whats true or not, but as far as slant goes. You can pretty much gather that Tweedy was not to comfortable by the way he handled things with Ken Coomer, and didn't look at it as one of the more admirable ways he handled himself. It seems like the only thing against Jay in the book is he decided he had something against Tweedy and wanted out and it was not well explained to Jeff. This is futher complicated by Farrar being interviewed by some magazine (Paste, or No Depression I dont remember) and saying that Tweedy was after his girl.

That and what about the multi instrumentalist guy that was on Being There, that played Dobro, lapsteel etc. he never gets a thread like the Coomer does.

  4. In all honesty: at its best its a laid back, slick sounding, tastefully hit packed record.

At its worst: an overrushed, less poignant Uncle Tupelo.

Its always strange for me cause overall I am a huge Son Volt/Farrar naysayer and a huge Wilco devotee, but when it comes down to it I would take Trace over AM in an instant. I think Wilco did the right thing by moving on, they made amazing records once they shook off their first reflex record. I think Son Volt/Farrar proceeded to paint himself in a corner. If you think this is absolutely a ridiculous criticism, you are not alone and I can respect that.

  5. The synth strings sound pretty bad, though I like the song as a whole. I hope that part gets rearranged before it's recorded.

Allright, I gave it a day or two, and a couple extra listens and so far I think its my least favorite newbie. BUT: thats only in respect to this early version, the song could very well change and best What Light, and Impossible Germany my current favorites of the new batch. That and I am imagining them going home to the loft to hash out some twenty odd songs weve never heard, many of which could be better then any of the new stuff.

  6. wow, thanks for posting this. Its crazy to hear something so different then the other new ones. Does this seem potentially radio friendly to others? Not necessarily in a bad way, just real straight up, obivous riff-hook. I think I dig, but I need some more digestion.

  7. I just moved and am waiting for my dad to go with me to get a wireless router we can both agree on. So my computer isn't hooked up right now (hopefully within the next few days). I have a soundboard version of the old Spiders from Seattle in '02 that sounds excellent. If you haven't gotten it from someone by then, I'll try uploading it.

sweet, thanks, tell your dad to hurry :P

  8. Sunken Treasure (Tweedy solo version in full band setting)

    old Spiders

Does anyone have any recordings of these. I saw them do the revised Sunken Treasure at Red Rocks last year and it was gorgeous, but Ive never heard the old version of Spiders, ever.

  9. oh, not able to distribute mp3's of a song performed only once in the world. Man you have failed us again Canada, and we resent that you will give quality health care to anyone. Lets fight.

  10. Yeah, I know its a bit early, and they only played it once, but on the off chance one of you sharing VC folks might have an mp3 I thought I'd ask. :monkey

or.... if you happened to be in Canada that night, what did it sound like?

  11. I thouroughly enjoyed it, but it is already out of date. Sure we have read interviews, but if Kot had to go around and talk to Leroy Bach, Jim O'Rourke, Mikael Jorgensen and of course Glenn and John the story of making AGIB would have a lot more flesh on it. Then it would also be interesting to see how the band took to, and socially interacts with the new addition of Nels and Pat. Then there is all the stuff to come, the next record. There really cant be a good book started until the bands end, but I do know the next one wont need to rehash Uncle Tupelo, Kot really dug as much up on that as he could.

  12. Miles Davis was pretty much clean as a whistle when he did "Bitches Brew", and that album was one of the most bold and experimental statements in music. So anything's possible, really.

In the Neil Young biography he says he thinks the crash of classic rock at the end of the seventies was fueled by cocaine. He said cocaine was responsible for his lousiest performances and that the main reason the Band's Last Waltz isn't quite what it should have been was cocaine. Granted, its not Heroin or OxyCotton but theres one drug a musician says sucked.

  13. The thing that always strikes me about AGIB is just how personal it sounds, it sounds like your in the room with the band, sometimes it gets so quiet, it feels like you can hear the light coming through the window and hitting the floor.

I love being there, and I think Summerteeth is at points even better and maybe occaionally a little worse then BT, YHF is the most discussed album, and its a master piece. But...nothing has ever gotten under my skin the way a Ghost Is Born does. Ive made a habit of listening to it right after the sun comes up driving all night on road trips and tours and it always crushes me how emotional it is. The only other album that has that for me is Astral Weeks, and in a much different way.

  14. Yeah, I think its easy for a fan to take their massive catalog for granted. Sure, some songs get hit much more often: Spiders, Via Chicago, SHot In The Arm, Muzzle of Bees, Kingpin. But its cause they work so well live. WHen I see the lists I tend not to be impressed at first and then I realize its only because I know all of the songs. Everytime I have seen them it was great just to let it happen.

  15. You could be a human being by not being so goddamn condescending and letting other people, who are also Wilco fans, prefer their era of Wilco as they wish.

p.s. I think it's funny how you seem to hold the belief that you are the definitive Wilco fan.

I have no idea what a definitive fan is, but I would probably stop being a fan if it made me so upset all the time.

  16. LOL, yeah, because only bedwetting reactionaries could have a negative reaction to anything, those damn bedwetters!

Somehow I think you're safe on this one.

Because everyone always waits a day after experiencing something before they have an impression of it, yeah, that's realistic.

Ah, youre a good sport. The internet seems to draw us too often in to being rude to strangers (excuse me for that). But honestly if I was so upset by the era of an artist, I probablly would not plague its fan board with negative criticism. It would be like if I found a Dylan fan board and said: man these new songs suck, i really wish he would go back to his Freewhelin' syle material.

And in any case, I didn't mean anyone specific, it was just a hearty jab, in the direction of whomever took it. What I really meant to say is "Sorry if youre not enjoying this as much as I am right now." :mellow

  17. I love what a bunch of bedwetting reactionaries call themselves Wilco fans. I hope I never am in a band that gets so big, that mp3's of new songs spread like wild fire and get shot to hell by naysayers. Hell, how do we know any of these songs are even going to be on the album, or that they will sound the way were hearing them. Newer Impossible Germany is great, Walken also improved, give a new song a minute to breath, like maybe a day after the download at least.

  18. the roadcase finally has the webcast which I enjoyed. The newer rendition of Walken is a step sharper then the old one for sure, as is The Good Part. Does anybody have an mp3 of them doing In A Future Age with the new lineup, possibly from Duluth, cause the roadcase cuts off before that part of the set.

  19. What's the Wilco is Cock joke?

well, on the IATTBYH documentary, there is live footage of a Tweedy acoustic tour. At one show he did this really funny bit about how in his younger years he and his friends used 'cock' as a positive adjective, like:"Your bike is cock". This was hilarious, but as the Chapelle show has taught us, if you document someone creating a hilarious catch phrase the people of America will drive it into the ground until the very sound of it makes you angry. For example: Get 'er done. yuck!

  20. I was there.

I'm not sure about Jeff rockin the homeless dude/ teen wolf look. While a good band, I can't wait for the day Jeff takes Nels, Mike, and Pat aside and says "64th notes, feedback, multiple keyboards and hitting your instruments with maracas, spatulas and pizza cutters has been done to death. Wilco needs to progress to a higher level. Jay Bennet and I have been talking and he's off the drugs, booze and he's quit the cigs; plus he's got this bitchin beard now so I think I'd like to work with him again. It's been real."

And ruin everything weve come so far to enjoy. Then maybe we can neuter/spade Lassie, shave Dakota Fannings head and kill Santa Clause. You Wilco scrooges break my heart. :yucky
