  1.

I can't help feeling a little schadenfreude when I hear about the promoters handing out free GA tickets (which were $85 or so, right?)

The front 'pit' tickets were $80, but GA were like $25 or $30, still good 'seats' for free.

The night didn't rain, monsoon, haboob - THAT'S something to be thankful for (tho maybe some raindrops - just a few

But the wind!  I forgot to mention, did anyone else notice how freaking awesome the lightning a few miles away looked?  Like an extension of the lights on stage?  And when the wind kicked up during the last 1/3 of the set, it manically swirled above Mike and Glenn and changed stage light color?  I asked my friends in the lawn if they saw it and they said no, as I was up front.  It looked really cool.

Oh - one more thing - I know they feel like they hafta play Hotel AZ when they're here (every single time, the 3 times I've seen 'em in AZ), but still - I sorta wish not.  That being said - it rocked.  But I guess I just don't like predictability.  Impossible Germany, though - they need to NEVER stop playing that live.  To me, it's the pinnacle of what they have ever done.

Thank you, thank you!  While I like "Hotel Arizona", I don't need to hear it live every time I see them in Az.  But yes, to "Impossible Germany".  I was right in front of Pat's stack this time and usually I am closer to Jeff or right in front of Nels.  But this time, as Jeff was singing, I heard Pat's guitar almost weep and it added another layer to the song I really haven't heard before.  A sad layer.  It was really neat.  I was going to talk to him about that at the after show, but that was canceled.  :(

  2. It was a good show and the guys sounded great, but that is the least I have heard Jeff talk and he looked like the heat was getting to him until the wind picked up.  With that said, I honestly believe the heat (my God the heat [seinfeld]) is what kept lots of people away from this show in general.  Seriously, who books a band in an open baseball park in early July in the Phoenix area (when there are other options)? But, I went and tuffed it out and brought in my liter of water becuase it's freaking Wilco and they don't come around here too often.  Yes, the crowd was light and yes, they (we) could have been more lively, but once again, the heat just zapps the life out of everything here.  I was shocked to see promoters just handing, yes, handing out free GA tickets to this show out in the parking lot.  They were desperate to get people in.

Now as far as the set list, I could have swore "Via Chicago" was played much later in the night, but I could be wrong.  And I think this because I noticed they lost half the crowd starting at "Kamera", thru "Secret of the Sea".  And one more thing...why not poster for this show???  All in all great show!

  3. Yeah, I wondered why and who booked them for an outdoor show in Arizona in July too, but I am just happy to see them again.  Either way, I am sure it will be a good show.  We get a big fireworks display after the band too!

  4. I ended up getting tickets to the Scottsdale show in Sec C for $65 a piece, before fees.  Yes, it stung to pay like $140 for two ticket for wilco when I used to pay like $30 a piece back in the day, but the way I reason it in my mind is they only come to Arizona every few years or with driving distance every few years, so for me it kind of evens out.  And for me, I decided to go with the seated section and not GA field because I have major spine and back problems, so I will have to sit down every other song and I will need a chair and didn't want to be in the handicap area way up on the concourse, so for me, a little extra money spent to be up close was worth it, plus I got lukcy and got row 1 in pre-sale.  Not sure how that worked out, but I am happy.  I used to work at Salt Rive Fields and can tell you that it is a beautiful facility and it will be nice to have a firework show afterwards.

With that said, I am not sure we will ever see the low price tickets again, but who knows?  They might get different promoters or do a tour of smaller venues again.  Maybe if enough people complain to the management and/or band they will listen.

  5. Yeah, it seems every Tucson show has an odd vibe to them. Almost too relaxed. Several of us near the front center kept trying to stand up early on, but it didnt' work out until Germany. It did seem Jeff was irrated at certain people up front even telling a guy who was taking photos to get out/move away from him. The ushers were going after anyone with any sort of camera, including cell phones.

The lighting was amazing, like the show at ASU and then ending was different, but amazing as well. They went into a drone, then one by one, they would stop playing their instrument and wave, then walk off. The stage crew walked on and started to shut off the equipment. I have never seen a rock show end in such a fashion.

After the show, I was telling Pat and Glenn how the ending was like a Coen Bros ending. Stories don't always end with a bang, sometimes, they just slowly fade away or stop in the middle of sentence.

  6. Did not think we would be able to see any form of live wilco this year as we moved from chicago to Flagstaff late last year. This just made our concert year, does anyone have any Info on the presale is there a password needed and if so what is it.

I know it can be a long drive from Flag, but did you see them in Tucson earlier this year?

  7. I also got in line at about 5:45 and was right in front of the phone store. In order to get a wristband, you enter the venue and walk straight into the pit. Don't look at the merch, etc. One thing I can't stand is people who are out of the line for like an hour and then just walk up by their friends and act like the other people who were standing behind them do not matter. This really got to me that night. I can understand running to the CVS to get a drink or over to the hot dog lady, but wandering around, come on!

  8. We were in the 8th row directly in front of Stirratt and were told numerous times by the aisle nazi to sit down. When we ignored his flashlight he came over and yelled. Show was great but the ushers were definitely telling people to stop dancing...

The guard in front of us was sleeping, so I don't think he cared. The the female one kept walking in front of us for no apparent reason. It got really annoying after awhile.
