  1. I quite like the idea of combining names. But then I would be Jen Wee-vens. So maybe not such a good idea in my case.

Amy and I have married friends whose last names are Dickmann and Cuplic. When a persistently aggresive elderly aunt continued to pester them about changing her name after marrying, (they weren't going to), our friends replied that perhaps they should combine the two names and be the Dicklics.

    That shut her up.

BTW, Al did a great job on the announcement! I think you know how much I wish I could be there. :cheekkiss

  2. The festival kicked off last week with a screening of Home, a really lovely documentary about immigration, and specifically New York as a city of immigrants, told through the experience of an Irish actor living there. There are also great interviews with iconic New Yorkers, which shouldn't be missed if you get the chance.

On TV, I haven't watched the pilot episode of The Riches yet, but I'm hoping for better than we got with The Black Donnellys. :hmm

    Not holding my breath.

ERIN GO BRAGH, gogo! I march with you! :cheers :beer :cheekkiss :wub

  3. I made the mistake(?) of urging our 17 year old daughter Maddie (Mookie), to watch The Godfather with me. I had seen it dozens of times and had wanted her to watch it with me for years but I had learned not to push The Mook. When the film came up in conversation as one of the greatest ever made, she mentioned she wanted to see it. That night, we watched the entire film in silence and when the credits started to roll, she, who was never easily impressed, turned to me and said, "That was amazing." This was stated with the conviction of someone who has just witnessed a miracle.

Within the week she had decided to forgo her senior year of high school in the U.S. and finish in Italy. Within the year, she was gone, lost to us a year earlier than we had anticipated, an event we had been trying to prepare for since she was a little girl.

That film changed our family history.

She's back now and still dreams in Italian.

  4. as great as Friday's show was, Sunday's show took it by the neck, and tossed it off the top of the Hancock.

The Steppenwolf was my first Jon Brion show and it was as close to sex in pleasure as anything else I'd ever experienced. So if Jon Brion shows, like sex, get any better, I don't even need to know about it. :i'manidiotsmilie

  5. Didn't he have like 19 rebounds the other day?

    He'll be fine.

I gotta agree. Those guards don't even try to get him the ball. Toward the end of the regular Big Ten season, he was averaging nine shots a game. Nine. Eight of those on average are shot attempts after offensive rebounds. He's a monster.

    BTW, Hey Chris! :cheers
