  1. Student Loan Stereo and Blasting Fonda came up on my shuffle today and it got me wondering: Have they ever played either of these songs live? Didn't remember seeing them on the setlists during those "Evening with Wilco" residencies a while back in Chicago....anyway, just curious!

P.S. Student Loan Stereo is a great song to put on a workout/running mix, should you workout/run and/or make workout mixes. Always gets me going...

  2. Went to see Young@Heart's performance titled End of the Road last night at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn....it was incredible and moving on so many levels. I highly recommend checking out the show before they leave on May 1st. Towards the end, they sang Theologians and I can guarantee you've never heard the song quite like this. For those who don't know, Young@Heart is a chorus of men and woman from the ages of 73 on into their 90's based out of Massachusetts. They sing and perform contemporary and older songs from the likes of Neil Young, the Buzzcocks, Pixies, the Magnetic Fields and many, many more. Certainly wasn't expecting to hear Wilco but was so happy when they started singing it. Even though so many of the songs are familiar, it's like you are hearing them again for the first time. The lyrics take on different meanings, and you have a newfound appreciation for them.

Anyway, check out these links for their current residence in Brooklyn - http://stannswarehouse.org/current_season.php?show_id=44

I just ordered the doc about them from 2008 on Netflix and definitely looking forward to it after seeing them live...

  3. This performance renewed my love for this song.

Also, I was actually at this show at The Olympia and I don't remember Jeff and Glenn with beards during their show. They must have shaved their beards after taping the Take Away Show. Very important details, I know...

Anyway, great song, great Take Away Show. Too bad they didn't do more than one song!

  4. Made the trip up from Brooklyn for this show, and man, was it worth it. This was maybe my 11th or 12th Wilco show at this point (I lost count somewhere along the way), and I would definitely put this in the top 3. There was something really special about seeing this lineup of the band in such a small venue and the fact that it was standing room only which rendered the 'stand vs. sit' debate a moot point. Because of this, I think they opted for a more rocking set. The energy from the crowd was high throughout and it seemed like the band was really feeding off that energy. After seeing them at various outdoor venues (McCarren Pool, Central Park, Festival Pier in Philly) and at Radio City, it was such a cool experience to see them in what felt like a really small venue. An employee of the Olympia said capacity was somewhere around 2,300 which isn't really THAT small, but it felt certainly felt intimate to me. But I was also like 3 rows of people back from the stage :)

I'd never requested a song through the website and I requested Summer Teeth and they played it! Maybe others requested that one also, but I was so happy they played it because I'd never seen the full band play it live. Only at Jeff's solo shows...

Pot Kettle Black and She's a Jar were rare highlights. I also liked that there were several bars set up throughout the venue which made it really easy to get a beer.

All in all, a fantastic show!

Enjoyed Bahamas too...picked up his album but haven't listened to it yet.

  5. From Tonight Show's Webmaster Twitter feed...

RT @BigBley: Watching Wilco's soundcheck... Those guys are rad! And I'm loving the doubleneck guitar!!

RT @BigBley: Seeing Wilco teach Jimmy Vivino the vocal parts a capella is AMAZING. They're incredibly tight.

Does Nels play the doubleneck guitar on "You Never Know"?

  6. Ok - this just got a lot better....really bummed I will be out of town for this!
