  1. Is it just me or does Jeff really not like the crowd in Champaign?

I saw Wilco play at Foellinger back in feb. '05, and both times he just seemed to be making fun of a lot of people in the audience. I've seen him elsewhere and it wasn't exactly the same dynamic.

I think he just gets kind of annoyed at the "idiot college kids," but he takes it in stride and just gives it right back to them.

Yeah, this is exactly how I felt. You could see he was slightly awkward... he would pause before saying some words and it seemed to me like he was avoiding swearing.

I totally think it's the college kid attitude. Especially on Halloween weekend when everyone is already being a dumbass. The crowd gets less into the music because they're too caught up in the audience being loud.

That's what I thought. It was still a great show regardless. I've heard other Tweedy recordings and he seems to be more conversing with the crowd instead of... I guess arguing would be the word. Either way, he still put on a good performance and show and I love him.

  2. Wow, what a great show. I've been a fan of Wilco for a few years now and it's pretty much all I listen to (I don't listen to music very often since I am usually playing it). I took a friend of mine with and, though she was new to Wilco, she really enjoyed it. Sunken Treasures 'I AM SO OUT OF TUNE' almost made her cry--it definitely took my breath away to say the least (I went home and learned it as soon as I could)

The crowd was okay--a few idiots, some funny dialog with Jeff

    (Fan calls out song title)

JT: 'Is that the name of one of my songs because honestly I forget them all the time'

    Fan: 'It's on the DVD'

    JT: 'Oh.'

I found this show and bought tickets off another member of VC forums just before it started which was totally great--tenth row (J, section 3). Autumn Defense was pretty decent--their songwriting could use some help but they are both very talented--great harmonies.

I am definitely, DEFINITELY, going again as soon as I get money. By far one of the best experiences of my life hands down. He is an amazingly talented man and as a songwriter myself I've got to say I could not even dream of being that talented--You can tell how quick he is with interesting words, like when he said 'a fragile mob'. You could throw it in a song and it would be a good lyric.

As to the mysterious new song: the main jyst of it was 'You should be glad you got out alive', or something to the likeness of that.

Frankly I'm not too turned on by his new songs--Is That The Thanks I Get is catchy but... it doesn't have that same intimate quality and character that Sunken Treasure has.

All in all a great show that I would love to re-live. PRAYING that someone recorded it!

  3. Tweedy's a baritone, definately. Still sings higher than me though, but that has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for this, too--I feel guilty whenever I capo a song, and I've been using capo 2 on this for a long time.

  4. Isn't that about death...? If so, that's kind of creepy: see if she has some necro issues.

Is it? The lyric "One by one I hear the soft words that you whisper/One by one I feel your kisses soft and sweet/One by one I hope you'll say the words to marry/One by one to one by one forever be" throws me, since it's not very post-mortum-ish.

That's the lyric that got her anyway.

And I also played 'Blower's Daughter' by Damien Rice without taking my eyes of of her the whole time. Seriously, that melts girl's souls (especially since I can sing just like him, and almost as high)

  5. Hey there. I'm new to these forums and also to Wilco, been listening to them only about 6 months but I am in love with the band. I just bought Kicking Television a week ago and now like, 4 of my friends went out and paid the 30 bucks for it just because they liked listening to it so much.

Anyway, I am also a singer/songwriter and I did a few Wilco covers that I'd like y'all to listen to and tell me what you think! They're not great, but they're okay.

I've been meaning to do more but I don't know which ones to do. So if you like these, request some more and I'll record em for you.

Also, if you like my voice and want to hear my normal music, let me know and I'll send you links.

    Anyway, here's Reservations:

(Sorry for crappy piano, all I have is a terrible keyboard with no sustain)

And here's the song Venus Stops the Train from the YHF Demo CD.

    http://www.toroimerai.net/sixstringsymphon...cover/venus.mp3

And since this is kinda a rare find, I'll write out the chords.

    (Capo2)

    Verse: D, Bb (x1333x), G, A

Until it gets to "The light strikes terror", where it switches to Gm (355333)

    Chorus: D, A, Em, G

Until it gets to "She falls in love me", where it switches to Bm (224432), then to Bb, A, G, E, D, A

Listen to the recording I have it's easier to hear the chords. This isn't exact to the piano, but it's close.

More to come if you like it. Requests are appreciated!

edit: I just noticed, the recording of Reservations I play the chords in the wrong way... I play a high C when I should play a low one. Oh well!
