    6/9/73-RFK

just stumbled upon this. just has a great mellow vibe with some good pics from taper. so cool. my mom was way pregnant with me at the time. time is weird.

checking out the 82 show now :-)

btw-should i go to furthur this summer?

the 6/9/73 show is one of my fav's....i drive by RFK every day coming home from work...i often think of that show when i drive by...even tho i was only 3 years old!

  2. it sort of reminds me of another forum i visit. there's a guy who completely HYPED the first Bon Iver album....i mean he was his #1 Fan. The new album was released and somebody asked "So, how's the new Bon Iver" and the #1 fan said "Total snooze fest"

    WTF?????

  3. I would love to hear an explanation of the folks who think the new Fleet Foxes is a disapointment. Seriously. What were your expectations? Why did it disappoint you? I honestly think that album is a complete MASTERPIECE.

    Please explain!

I won't even go into asking why folks thought Go Go Boots was disappointing. I think that's possibly their best album start to finish (Decoration Day being first)

  4. I love this band. Been a fan since the relative beginning, and this is my favorite of their work. This is wonderful music. They cut out a lot of the preciousness (minus a few 25c words that work really well) and still have really solid and moving lyrics. I love this album start to finish... really... every song. I like the June Hymn and February Hymn the most. In fact February has a hint of the original recording a of Bob Dylan's 49th Beard.

Do you mean "January Hymn"? If so...i LOVE it! I picked up the vinyl today and played that to my wife. It's my fav. so far.

    1. Joel Alme - Waiting for the Bells

    2. The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt

    3. Phosphorescent - Here's To Taking It Easy

    4. Cotton Jones - Tall Hours in the Glowstream

    5. Dr. Dog - Shame, Shame

    6. Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues

    7. Laura Veirs - July Flame

    8. The National - High Violet

    9. Possessed By Paul James - Feed the Family

    10. Mavis Staples - You Are Not Alone

Arcade Fire, Joanna Newsom and especially the Black Keys would have all made my list if they'd just hired an editor.

Listening to Joel Alme now...liking it! thanks for the heads up...it has an old school 1960's soul vibe.

  6. good point. i guess was just thinking about my favorite artist, Neil Young. i'm willing to check out all his stuff, no matter what. doesn't mean i'll love it. that being said, i'd probably warm up to something that i initially didn't like by him. trans being one example. i was just thinking the same about ryan adams. whether he is Smiths mode or country rocker mode it's him, his voice, his songs, his guitar. i assume a big fan would give anything he put out a chance. so i think we agree:)

you've said Neil Young, Ryan Adams and The Smiths all in the same paragraph...so it looks like we def. agree on something because those are 3 of my favorite artists/bands!

  7. prior to this new one, 29 was my least favorite Ryan album.

there's 2-3 good songs, but overall it's just really really dull to me.

Exactly. i can respect that. people have their favorite ryan adams moment. I was one of the few that didn't like Love is Hell when it came out...but i came around to it. But the certain folks here who are basically saying you're not a real ryan adams fan if you bash or don't like ALL of his material is rediculous. He continually gives his fans tons of new material for free on the web (which is great)...but if you go to ryanadamsarchive 99% of them talk like it's the most amazing stuff ever. All i'm hearing is bullshit demo/outtake quality on 99% of the stuff. It doesn't take away the fact that i really like him as an artist...but i am getting a little fed up with what i call 'crap' output. ALSO, the fact that he throws his little temper tantrums when people don't like it or write something negative about it has become a bigger turnoff. He's actually called out individuals over at another site i post on...threatening them with all kinds of crap...finding their IP address, lawsuits...etc. It's like watching a 12 year old kid on the internet. On RAA he's gone mad numerous times...then goes back and deletes all his stuff. Then apologizes...then goes berzerk again on members...same old song and dance. Dude needs to step away from the internet basically. The shananigans is starting to wear on his fans.

    sorry for rambling....

  8. Just out of curiosity, which of his proper studio albums would you classify as "shady". Both solo and with Whiskeytown I can't think of any that I wouldn't miss dearly, except for Orion (which I knew going in was probably not my bag, I know nothing about metal and generally don't care to, but it has some fun songs). And even with Orion, it is not like that was promoted as an alt country record. He clearly defined it as what it is and put it out on his own label. To be the music may be less than my favorite but the way he put it out seemed on the up and up.

me personally, i think cardinalogy is shady...very shady. that's my "personal" opinion. that doesn't mean you might not like it...but i know i don't like it. Easy Tiger was 'okay'...IMO....borderline shady. most of his internet recordings are shady...and from what i've heard so far from III/IV, it sounds like boring generic rock to me. if i didn't know it was ryan adams, and i wasn't his fan, i would just toss it aside and never listen to it again. I'm gonna still give it time, but, i'm sorry, nothing on this new album stands out at all. if this was coming from bryan adams, or any other artist (besides ryan) you guys would never listen to it either. production on the album sounds fine, but otherwise, these songs sound like quick knockoffs. take of your blinders...just because it's ryan adams doesn't mean it's great.

  9. good post. people who like ryan will like what he does, no matter what. fair weather fans wont and will moan. same with neil young. dare i say i'd even like a hip hop album by him, because i like him and i'm with him all the way (not his ticket prices though). however, i don't think an artist has bust into an entire new genre to grow. jay farrar has stayed in the same vein for years and still is working on writing good songs.

i disagree with your first sentance. i love ryan adams...and he's my favorite artist out there...but i don't like everything he puts out "no matter what". just because you like somebody doesn't mean you have to like everything they release. i think ryan has put out some shady stuff...but that doesn't mean i want him to stop releasing a ton of stuff...or edit down what he does. i'm sure i'll find treasures within the numerous internet songs or demos or whatever.

  10. would anyone be kind enough to list a few shows from the 2001-2002 era that have particularly good quality recordings floating around? I'm happy to search for the music myself but am tired of downloading crappy sounding shows. gracias.

you won't find hardly any crappy sounding RA shows. Most of them are SBD's...as he allows SBD tapings. But, here are a few of my fav. shows from the 01-02 years:
