gotta go with "The Wall", the resurfacing guitar riffs and the story is awesome. Floyd did a great job with "concept albums".

i love wilco, but i can't get into this one at all. my initial reaction to this recording was that it reminded me of hopped up elevator music. "sky blue sky" and "far, far away" sound like the same song to me, i hate shake it off , and the absence of any true rockers annoys me (and yes i have heard walken). with the exception of "impossible germany" and maybe "either way" all of the remaining songs are just ehhhh.

the comparisons i was hearing to "being there" have little to no merit in my humble opinion.

sorry about the bashing, but i was really looking forward to this recording

most certainly my least favorite track on this record.

the other you apparently get if you buy the disc at an independant record store, i can't remember what it has on it other than a live version of bandages and scars.

those of you that got the ep, is there anything worth hearing on it?

 

how many songs does it have?

there are 2 ep's floating out there. if you get the disc at best buy you get alternate versions of the picture (without horns) and highways and cigarettes (acoustic). the third song is circadian rhythm live at acl fest.

i can see why some would try to shoot down my earlier reviews, but if i just thought it was good i would have said that. the first time i heard okemah i was like ehhhh. the first time i heard yhf i said it was a masterpiece. not comparing the two i just love the recording and really think it is some of the best stuff i have heard. just my take

this disc is a masterpiece!!!!! i really think everyone here would enjoy it.

jay farrar's best work, period. yes that includes uncle tupelo and trace.

i have heard people comment that the first half of the record is weak. circadian rythm, underground dream, action and the search are all great imo. when they played these at the free concert in philly all 4 were awesome.

the guitar solo on 'At Least That's What You Said' doesn't suck. it's a timeless classic.

you can get uncle tupelo tabs/tunings from that icon as well.

he uses drop d alot. he also comes up with some of his own. many of the people on jay's board are guitar wizards and still can't figure out the tuning for medication. i've got a page somewhere w/ a ton of son volt tabs including alternate tunings. i'll see if i can scrounge it up.

yamaha eterna acoustic. the yamaha has been declared by many of my musician friends as the most unforgiving guitar of all time.

jay and the boys announced several new tour dates in support of the next record "the search" which comes out march 6.

the tour starts 03-26-07 and is mostly west coast and mid west.

i hate to start another cliche' i love this recording thread, but here goes anyway....

big "alt-country" fan here, who listened to wilco alot in the late 90's but never bought any discs. i decided to dive into the wilco catalog recently (already had all of tupelo's stuff). i started w/ kicking tv and yhf. i was marginal on both in the beginning, so in one fatal swoop i got everything else knowing the alt-country sound was somewhat present.

after wearing them all out i seem to always comeback to kicking tv. i absolutely love those 2 discs.

i haven't noticed it getting much love around here. am i off base?
