  1. In light of recent events, do you really want to prove that you were an Oink member? And also, what methods are folks using to prove it?

Some people have oink screenshots saved that show their username and ratio. I just sent a screenshot of my original oink email.

What exactly are you worried about by sending oink membership proof? IFPI isn't going after oink members, and it seems very likely that they don't even have a case against the oink founder.

Edit: And today there is news that EMI is considering cutting their funding approximately $132 million USD) to trade organizations like IFPI and RIAA

Looks like the record industry is starting to grow weary of the RIAA and IFPI

  2. Hey guys, if you want to get into waffles and have proof of Oink membership, the quickest way to get in is to email your proof to hilikus.waffles.fm@gmail.com. He's been mass inviting people with proof, and I received my invite about a day after sending my proof. All I sent him was a screenshot of my original oink invitation.

  3. I know a list means absolutely nothing, but I don't see anyone giving any love to The Sea And Cake. Everybody is a tremendous album, and it has been largely ignored.

Oh well. It doesn't really matter how many lists they end up on, most of the groups/artists mentioned won't have the longevity and consistency Sam and co. have had.

I agree, that album will definitely be in my top 25.

  4. Hey guys, I just got into waffles, but I don't have any invites yet. They give you 5 gb upload to start, and I have to get 10 gb before I get PU status with invites, and right now the uploading is very slow going with a small number of leechers. As soon as I get some and they open it up, I'll try to spread some love around here.

Honestly, though, if you can get into what.cd, I wouldn't worry too much about waffles right now. Waffles does have more music torrents right now, but I've found some torrents on what that I can't find on waffles and vice versa. And what.cd is much more user friendly and seems to be much further along site development wise.

  5. After looking everywhere for a waffles invite, I've become pretty satisfied with what.cd. The site has been running very smoothly over the past few days (after their hacker issue), and since they started the freeleech/upload challenge, the number of torrents has increased dramatically.

It seems to be easier to get invites for, so I would recommend to those of you scouring the internet for a waffles invite to check it out.

  6. It seems that they have things figured out over at what.cd now. It's been up uninterrupted for a while now, and they have a challenge to users to get to 50,000 torrents by Saturday. In order to meet that, they're offering freeleech until Saturday night, and if they meet their goal, they'll extend the freeleech for 5 days.

I have one what.cd invite left and would like to trade it for a waffles invite.

  7. or you could just get a boombox with a cd. cheap AND easy. and you won't have to worry with people looking at tweedy and not you. or you could get a poster of tweedy and put the boombox behind it and sit everyone really far away. have him behind a tree jonathan richman like, with just a guitar.

Or you could just have a DJ play the Wilco tune. I mentioned this in another thread the other day, but I recently got married and my wife and I were introduced at the reception to "I'm Always in Love." It's obviously not as cool as having Jeff at your wedding, but it was pretty great.

I actually dig the earlier stuff a lot and then they kind of lost me after the double album. I reaaly liked the Zwan album, actually...wish that would have taken off.

It sucks, because there were some great songs on Mellon Collie, but it was way too bloated with filler and lacked focus. Obviously should have been one disc. 1979 is one of my favorite tracks of all time.

I know this probably makes me uncool on this board.

  9. I saw this posted on another board and thought it offered a little perspective:

keep in mind this is probably the label's doing.

remember what they did with their last c.d.? Released it for free on the internet as a big f*ck you to Virgin

    records.

I also want to point out that in 1998 the Pumpkins donated every penny of their world tour to charity, and on their current tour they are charging only $20 per ticket at the residencies and are allowing open bootlegging.

seems out of character that this is their decision.

  10. I was really surprised Springsteen wasn't mentioned until page 4. I can't think of an artist more deserving of mention in this thread. I would argue that he had a string of 8 great albums.

    Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.

The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle

    Born To Run

Darkness on the Edge of Town

    The River

    Nebraska

    Born in the USA

    Tunnel of Love

    The Roots:

    Do You Want More?!!!??!

    Illadelph Halflife

    Things Fall Apart

    The Roots Come Alive

    Phrenology

It's too bad they had a dud with The Tipping Point because Game Theory is spectacular (and one of the best albums of 06). This kind of consistency is extremely rare in Hip Hop. And to the guy who mentioned Ghostface, "Bulletproof Wallets" is a huuuuuuuge stretch.

  11. i absolutely love modest mouse, but i would hate seeing them live, with tons of kids yelling PLAY FLOAT ON or DASHBOARD...theyre earlier stuff is much better in my opinion.

and ive already seen BoH. really good live, they owned funeral.

BoH made my day when they covered David Allen Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name." All of the kids at the Metro were scratching their heads, but I loved it.

  12. Does anyone know if Mike Watt will be playing with the Stooges?

I'm really bummed about MMJ and Modest Mouse playing at the same time. Last year they did a pretty good job of scheduling the bands so there weren't too many obvious conflicts (though I think Wilco played at the same time as BSS), but this year there are a lot of conflicts. Not only is Yo La Tengo playing at the same time as !!!, but they also overlap with Peter Bjorn and John.

  13. I got married about a month ago. My wife and I were introduced at our reception to "I'm Always In Love."

I can't even tell you how great it was, and the party was a smashing success. "I'm Always In Love" was in a constant loop in my head for days afterward, and it was a constant reminder of how great that day was and how much fun everyone had.

So that song will forever remind me of my wedding day.

  14. I saw them at Lolla, and they were great, though their set was cut short due to technical difficulties. I talked to some random people after the show, and they said they had never heard Calexico before, but were blown away by their performance.

And if you don't have their new album, you really need to pick it up. "All Systems Red" is the song of the year.
