  1. FWIW, the solo version (of Muzzle of Bees) I am working from (don't have the date) is capo 2. That picking patern is tough. From the sounds of it, Tweedy struggles with it too.

    I play it capo 5...and I think Jeff does too. Althouhg for the full band recently I think hes been doing capo 7. Anyway you can play it capo 2 if thats what key you like to sing in, doesn't really matter the dynamic of the song is the same:

    verse goes D A G, IIRC. It is finger-picked, its not that difficult. The D chord features a pull-off on the high e string to make the riff.

    The bridge (I guess?) towards the end goes Am, C, G, D...again from memory. Jeff adds a good bit of fanciness to these chords that you might be able to figure out... hint: hold the chord shape and look for pulloffs and hammer-ons that you can do with your free fingers.

    There is also a little riff that is normally played on piano:

    Strum G during the "I'm assuming you got my message, on your message" then comes the riff:

    e------------------
    B--2----0---------
    G----2----1--2---
    D----------------4
    A--0-0--0-0--0---0
    E-----------------

    You don't have to play the bass notes on the A string along with the high notes but it sounds better IMO if you aren't playing the rest without a pick (which you shouldn't, cause the song is fingerpicked solo).

  2. Capo 5

    G -> F -> Em -> C

    This is the intro progression. The way he plays it on the Sunken Treasure DVD is pretty simple, you can do it with a pick. The sound is achieved by picking through the chords and then doing a pull-off on the B string.

    For example, play a G like this:

    e-3---

    B-3----3p0

    G-0---

    D-0--0

    A-2--2

    E-3--3

    then switch to a non-barre F and do the same thing:

    e x

    B 1---1p0

    G 2--

    D 3--

    A 3--

    E x

    then play a normal Em, there is no string fretted on the B string so you can't do the pull-off here.

    Finally move to C and do the pulloff again, eg.

    e 0

    B 1--1p0

    G 0-------0

    D 2

    A 3

    E 0

    Hope this helps, the diagrams are really sloppy so if you don't understand just say so and I'll try and do a better job.

  3. More like the moon is one of my favorite Wilco songs too. Its extremely pretty, great lyrics, beautiful classical guitar solo. I had my fingers crossed that they'd pull it out at the Residency but I was happy to see Magazine Called Sunset and Bob Dylans 49th Beard anyway.

  4. Anyone ever been to this place? I haven't, and I hear that it's expensive, but as a carnivore I'm intrigued.

    Yeah, Pita Inn's pretty good. We saw Rick Nielsen there the day of LR Show #3 last year.

    I also like Old Jerusalem, on Wells in Old Town.

    Can't speak for the one in Chicago, but there is a Fogo De Chao in Atlanta run by the same people. Its fantastic but you have to be a meat lover obviously. And yes, it is expensive, so make it a special occasion and go hungry (light lunch). I think for dinner its $50/person to eat or something.

  5. I always play it like this:

    0-1-2-0 walk on the A string, followed by an A major chord.

    So the progression I use for the intro is:

    A major -> B 7th -> E major -> C# minor -> C major -> E major

    The B major 7th can be played a variety of ways, but the easiest fingering for this progression is x21202

    C#minor is x02120

  6. Here is a very rough tab of the intro that should get you on your way...

      G				   C	 		E	 			Am 			 D		C   G
    e -----------------------------------------------------------------------2-2---2--------2
    B -------3------------------------1----------------0------1--------1-----3-3--------1---2
    G 3h4---------------2-------------0--------0h1-0h1--------2----0h2-------2-2--------0---0
    D -----5-----3h4-------------0h2-----------2---2----------2-------------------------2---0
    A ----------------5-------3----------------2---2------------------------------------3---2
    E --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------3

  7. theyre the same, its just an enharmonic reference. ie, its an a minor backing.

    So like...

    E A D G B e

    x-0-2-2-3-0

    Also can you recommend a scale to improvise over the solo parts that you haven't tabbed? I know the key is G major but the pentatonic scale I've been using is a little boring. Maybe harmonic major or somethin?

  8. Great show despite the rain. Unfortunately the people in front of us insisted on using umbrellas instead of ponchos or rain jackets and despite several people asking them to lower the umbrellas, my view was blocked for a lot of the show :(

    Nels seemed to be struggling a little bit during the Impossible Germany solo, he kept having to wipe his hands off on his shirt but he still pulled it together after the beginning and continued to rock out for the remainder of the show.

    I've now seen Wilco against two elements of mother nature - the relentless heat beating down on us at Bonnaroo, and then the relentless rain beating down on us at Chastain. Two excellent shows though, Kamera was a treat, as was Pot Kettle Black during the sound check.

  9. wow.. what a pathetic crowd.

    they couldn't even yell "Hello"

    man.. Nels is crazy on Handshake.

    beautiful stuff.

    Hey man most of the crowd had been camping in 95 degree heat since Thursday night or earlier. Give us a break! I was exhausted by the time Wilco came on around 5:30pm and the sun was still beating down hard. They put on one of the best shows at Bonnaroo besides Tool I agree. Unfortunately The Police were a major disappointment :(

  10. Its capo 5, the chords are:

    some sort of modified G, don't know the exact name

    e-0

    B-3

    G-0

    D-0

    A-2

    E-3

    Anyway we'll call this G*.

    The chords go G* -> Bm -> G* -> C/G (332010) -> regular G (320033) -> F -> G*

    You should be able to figure out how the chords are picked through by watching the DVD. He does something a little different with the G* though that is worth tabbing:

    e|------0-----0-----0------------------
    B|--------3-----3----------0-----------
    G|----------0-----0----0h3---0---------
    D|-0-0---------------------------------
    A|-2-2---------------------------------
    E|-3-3---------------------------------

    Verses go like this:

    (G*) The family garden is a special place

    In sun and shade there, (Bm) I was raised

    (G*)Voices fade away and (C/G)rooms are rearranged

    (G)Now I'm the family (F)gardiner (G*)

    If anyone knows what the ending chords to the song are please let me know.

    Thought I'd mention that One by One is played capo 5 also, intro chords G F Em C. On the DVD Jeff adds a somewhat fancy element to the song that makes it sound really good - hes sounding the B string harder while strumming the chords. For the G and C chords he is pulling off the B string before changing to the next chord. Sounds awesome to me.

  11. The solo relative to Capo 5, makes it a little easier for some:

    g------------------------------------------0-------4---2h4p2----2----------------------------------------------4---2---4----2----4
    d--------------4--------4h5p4-2------4----------------------5----5--2h4-2h4-0----------------0---------------5---5----5----5----5--
    a0h2-----0-2----------------------------------------------------------------------------0/2-------2/0-0-------------------
    e-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    g ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------0-----
    d 4h5p4-2-2---------------------------------------------------------------------------0-2----------
    a ---------------------------0---0h2p0------------0---0h2p0-----0h2p0------------0h2-------------
    e-------------------------3---------------3---3---------------3----------3---------------------------

    Please forgive the inconsistent spacing between the notes... I did this in a hurry. Just listen to the song for the real timing its not too hard :)

  12. can someone post the chord fingerings?

    Which chords do you need fingerings to? The tab is relative to capo position 5. Standard chords like Bm and A major are fingered the same way you would as if there was no capo. There are somewhat tricky:

    Most of the weird chords are essentially bassline walks:

    Bb { 0 1 3 3 3 1 }

    Bb/A { x 0 0 3 3 1 }

    Gm7 { 3 5 3 3 3 x }

    Gm7/F { 1 x 3 3 3 x }

    [Am]E[Em/G]v
